CM PRESS # 573

Wendy Leece Comes Up With Another Stupid Idea

At Next Tuesday's City Council meeting, Leece wants the Council to have staff spend time in researching a screwball transparency ordinance that can have a chilling effect on citizens and City Councilmembers and which can stifle even the most innocent of conversations about the city and its direction.

Hey, good Councilmembers, vote this idiotic thing down.

Yes, we know, Leece is trying some trickery with this absurd idea so once you vote it down, she can then nod at her lefty boot lickers and say "See, I told you they don't want transparency."

No one with half a brain is going to believe her.

Muslims Trying To Create Sharia Law Zones In British Cities

The next logical steps after posting the cities may be to have Muslim vigilantes, acting as the  police of the Sharia Law Zones, enforce the laws and perhaps even bring offenders to Muslim neighborhood courts (common features in many Muslim countries).

Will the Brits allow a separate legal and enforcement system to exist in Britain, perhaps in the name of multiculturalism?  We'll have to wait and see.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE FULLERTON POLICE DEPARTMENT ABOUT THE KILLING OF UNARMED KELLY THOMAS IN A CONFRONTATION WITH SIX FULLERTON COPS

The police chief of Fullerton is Mike Sellers.  Sellers is one of the people who interviewed the police chief applicants for Costa Mesa (see article below).

Kelly Thomas had problems with mental illness as do many homeless people. He weighed less than 140 lbs, yet six cops were involved in subduing him.

In the audio tapes of the confrontation, Kelly can be heard yelling for his father to help him while he's being subdued and tased by the cops.  Of course, his father was not there.

Hopefully, there will be a full investigation of this.

BREAKING NEWS--POLICE CHIEF INTERVIEWERS REVEALED
Greg Ridge aka Gericault

Our request for information on who was on the panel to interview potential police chiefs has finally been answered.

We started requesting this information during the process but we were told that the names were confidential and that we couldn't have that information.

We persisted.

But, here's the odd things about that supposedly confidential process. Greg Ridge, who often posts under the name Gericault, seemed to indicate in the Daily Pilot, during the process, that Kirk Bauermeister was one of the interviewers.  So, how did he know?  We'll see if the City knows. We'll let you know what we find out.

Here's the list of the interviewers we just received from the City:
Ron Lowenberg
David Maggard
Mike Sellers
Kirk Bauermeister
Steven Beazley
Carol Taylor
Peter Naghavi
Khanh Nguyen
Lori Sassoon

Here's what we wrote about Ridge and Bauermeister in CM PRESS # 535, June 20, 2011:

HAS THE POLICE CHIEF SELECTION PROCESS BEEN COMPROMISED?

In comments following the Daily Pilot column about possible reductions in the CMPD [HERE] we see the following comment from Greg Ridge who, as usual, is hiding behind the name Gericault77:

"Gericault77 at 7:33 AM June 18, 2011

"Dr. Kirk Bauermiester sat on the citizen panel and made the same recommendation. This council isn't listening to ANYBODY. Unlike you....who should not be listening to thiose voces in your head."

However, Bill Lobdell just emailed the CM PRESS and said:

"There was no citizen panel on police reductions."

So, maybe Ridge got things mixed up (not an unlikely possibility with this guy who even spelled Bauermeister's name wrong) and could it be that Bauermeister is actually on the police chief selection panel, not on the non-existent police reduction panel?

Well, Lobdell has this to Say about that:

"Until a new police chief is selected, the names of the panelists (citizen, employee and police) are confidential so the process can't be influenced."

The main questions now are: Is Bauermeister on the panel to select a new police chief or not? And, if he is, then how did Ridge learn about it if this is supposed to be confidential? And, has the process to select a new police chief now been compromised?

NB: As you may know, Kirk Bauermeister is the principal at Estancia High School--the same place where Joel Flores of chest bump fame works.

We may have more to write about the interviwers when we get time.

Egypt May Elect Muslim Brotherhood--Writer says this is bad news for Israel and America

Israel and America?  Nope.  Israel, maybe, but not America, or at least it shouldn't be a problem for America, and it won't be if Americans demand that our government stop joining itself at the hip to a foreign nation--Israel.

Israel and America are not the same nation. They are not even on the same land mass. They do not have all the same interests.

America needs a balanced foreign policy in the Middle East instead of treating Israel better than it even treats individual American states.

Defending Outsourcing Will Cost City Big $ And Take Two Years & The Path of Least Resistance

We don't know how the City Council is looking at this, but we suspect some on the Council may decide on principle to go forward with the legal action.

Our view on this is somewhat different and we base our view on our belief (as we've written before) that the goal is not, or should not, be to simply lay off workers, but rather, the goal should be to save money and deliver necessary services to residents of Costa Mesa in the most efficient and cost saving manner possible.

If any on the Council look at this as we do, they'll see that there are other ways to get to the goal--and you can do that by taking the path of least resistance.  There are flanking maneuvers available.

--The first thing that needs to be done is to get an honest case assessment from an uninvolved expert labor attorney(s) concerning the layoffs. In other words, is the City likely to prevail or not? What are the probabilities? Is the cost worth it?

--One also needs to consider that on-going legal action will be an election issue.

--Can the ultimate goal be accomplished via attrition, hiring freezes, outsourcing to other government entities instead of the private sector?

--The path chosen by the Council should be based on an unemotional cost/benefit analysis with the above in mind.

  1. Re. Leece's idea of transparency.

Does this mean every email conversation anyone has had with a city staff member will become public? Can you imagine the potential of embarrassment or problems beyond the scope of the message? Can you imagine learning you were once the subject of a conversation that was written under the guise of privacy? Can you imagine a few people going crazy and getting violent because of an email?

Well Wendy, I have many between you and myself also. You'd better think twice about this one. It is not going to work and will backfire on you. Also, this is not a good idea and will shut down communications for those not wanting to expose themselves to the public but want to voice an opinion.
