FRENCH MAYOR CONDEMNS ANTI-WHITE RACISM

A growing problem in Europe.

This is not Sadly Genis braying.

This is Sadly Genis braying (at Steve Mensinger).

Sadly Genis, she with the almost-yodel in the middle of her sentences, is one of the lefty  CMFROGS who, if elected, will stop improvement.

Folks, what do we know about lefties in Costa Mesa?  Hmmmm?

Well, they are generally in favor of illegal aliens (they sometimes call them "stakeholders").  They are in favor of more charities (that serve the "stakeholders").  They are in favor of a job center for illegal aliens.  They are in favor of a bloated local government with many redundant workers. They don't want the Westside to be improved as it should be.  They like to hold candlelight marches.  They like to shed tears and have hugathons.  They prefer style over substance.  They generally have a "Venus" outlook on things and prefer talking to action. They are process oriented, not results oriented.  If you smile and talk nicely, but accomplish nothing, you're okay in their book.  But, if you don't smile and don't talk nicely, even though you may save the city from bankruptcy, you're not okay in their book.

They like to use words like "heal," "divisive," "bring us together," "unity," "diverse."  They pepper their campaign literature and their conversations with these and a few other over used words and expressions to show how much they really, really care. Really.

We need these three on the City Council, folks, to keep improvement moving forward. These are the 3Ms.

The opposition to the 3Ms are the CMFROGS. These lefties will stop improvement.  Send the CMFROGS back to their frog pond where they belong.

Improvers say don't waste your votes on CM FROGS Ribbet Stephens (an attorney with offices in Newport Beach), Ribbet Weitzberg (he shouted down a speaker at a City Council meeting and brags about it), Ribbet Genis (she had her time on the Council years ago.  Let her enjoy the later years of her life flitting around outside of the Council while learning to yodel correctly).

ROCKY MARCIANO TRIBUTE FILM

Speaking of size of the fight in the man (as we do in the column below) Marciano--the only unbeaten heavyweight champ in boxing--fits the bill.

Rocky was only 5 ft. 11 in tall and weighed 184 lbs. He had short arms (67" reach) and stubby legs, and he had to take a lot of punishment to get inside where he could connect.  And, once on the inside he was likely to knock out his opponent.  Watch the video above and you'll see he put his whole body behind his piston like arms when he punched.

When these cowardly thugs don't want voters to hear what they have to say, they shout them down.  When they don't want voters to see their signs, they deface them and steal them.

Don't let the thugs win, vote Yes on the Charter (Measure V) and vote for the 3Ms!

Remember, if you see a sign stolen of defaced and you see a police car in the area, be sure to report it to the candidates and the City Council.  Try to get the number off the police car and note the time and date, when you report it.

Why I'm Voting for the Charter
by M. H. Millard

I believe that government that is small and closest to the people is generally the best. I like every smidgen of local control that we can wrest from bloated, faraway Sacramento (also from D.C., but that's for a different column).

To me,  letting the  politicians in Sacramento have the say on every bit of minutiae in Costa Mesa is like having an apartment complex with hundreds of apartments but with all the controls for the TV, the heating and air-conditioning, and the hot and cold water for the shower located up in the Sacramento Penthouse  where a small group of elites will decide what is right for them and then force that on all the other apartment dwellers.

Thank you very much elites up in the Sacramento Penthouse, but  I'm an adult and  I'll control my own TV, my own heating and air-conditioning, and also the hot and cold water in my shower.  You do not know what is best for me, you folks up there in the Sacramento Penthouse, so butt out.

I've seen a few arguments against the charter and they mostly seem to be of three general types:

The proposed charter is a Cut and Paste Job--Well, yes, that's how all contracts and legal documents are crafted.  No one starts with a blank piece of paper.  When drafting such documents you find clauses already in existence which have passed legal muster and you use them in your new document.
One of the City Council candidates who opposes the charter is an attorney (as he tells everyone at every opportunity). Ask him how he puts together contracts.  If he's truthful, he'll tell you that he has all the clauses in his computer and he cuts and pastes.  No one with any sense tries to reinvent the wheel.

The proposed charter will put too much power in the hands of the City Council---Nope.  The Council already has the power to do what it thinks is necessary to govern Costa Mesa.  They derive that power from us.  The charter simply gives the people of Costa Mesa a little more power, which we will exercise through our elected representatives.

Except in small villages and towns, usually found in rural New England, we do not have pure democracies.  The reason we don't is because with larger populations it makes no sense to have all the voters show up at Town Meetings to vote whether or not to spend $ 13.45 to buy Old Bob the street cleaner a new snow shovel or not.  Instead, we have representative democracies.  We vote for representatives--in our case, City Council members--and they figure out whether or not to buy Old Bob his snow shovel.

And if you've ever seen a City Council meeting in Costa Mesa where you have men showing up in Tutus, people shouting down speakers they don't agree with, people singing while at the podium, other people talking about drilling oil wells when the subject is the city budget, and all the rest, you'll get an idea why a pure democracy wouldn't work in a city the size of Costa Mesa.  Poor Old Bob would be down to a shovel with no blade and the citizens still wouldn't have decided whether or not to buy him a new shovel.  You'd quickly become a fan of our lack of snow and our representative government.

The proposed charter wasn't the product of a committee of citizens-- So what?  Here's a heads up on how the real world works. Often times when those running a City form a non-blue-ribbon  committee of ordinary citizens with no real experience in the subject being discussed it is a purely psychological move to give the appearance that everyone contributed, and thus have citizens  buy into whatever is decided even though they have usually  been manipulated to a certain decision that was made beforehand and really didn't contribute anything.

Instead of wasting our time on an illusory committee, we will now have the opportunity to vote up or down on a well written charter in November.

Here's something else. Some of the folks who oppose the charter remind me of some of the Loyalists who wanted the colonies to remain part of England.  Read some of the history of that era and you'll see what I mean. Same types of personalities.  Same arguments.

To repeat. On election day, you can vote for a little more freedom for Costa Mesa by voting for the charter, or you can vote to have Sacramento dictate to us.  It's no more complicated than that.

Funny, when he worked in Costa Mesa, he said the same thing.

ADAMS, JEFFERSON AND FRANKLIN CUTTING AND PASTING TO WRITE THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

That's the way it's done, folks.

You don't start off with huge meetings of people who don't know anything and who may be apathetic.

You start off with one person and that one person then gets input from a couple of others and a document is drafted and then the rest of the population gets to weigh in on the document.

That's also the way the proposed Costa Mesa charter was put together.

Everything begins with one person who has an idea and then he or she develops that idea and presents it to a few others with the intelligence to understand the idea.

Next, the idea is presented to a wider group.

Even the Communist Manifesto--a document dear to the hearts of many lefties--was a cut and paste job mostly put together by one man.

So, when you hear the lefties saying the proposed Costa Mesa charter is a cut and paste job and that one person started the process, be sure to reply: "So was the Declaration of Independence and most other documents of historical importance. And so was your personal  will, your business contracts, your living trust, your mortgage or rental agreement, and any other legal documents you have.  No one starts with a blank piece of paper."

That's the way we humans do things.  We build on what went before and what works.

Vote yes on the charter.  It'll give us more local control here in Costa Mesa.

STATUE FOUND BY NAZIS MADE FROM METEORITE

The headline on the above article says it is a Buddha statue.  We doubted that at first glance.  The face is all wrong, as is the posture, the clothing, and the fact that the figure is holding an odd object in his hand.

And, when you read the article, you'll see that a researcher also doubts that it is a Buddha statue.  That researcher thinks it's a statue of a warrior of some type.

Moorlach's update:

Congratulations to Rossmoor for being recognized by Coldwell Banker as a great suburb to live in.  Here is a link to Coldwell’s press release:  http://www.marketwatch.com/story/coldwell-banker-real-estate-analyzes-11000-suburbs-for-new-ranking-best-places-to-live-for-suburbanites-2012-09-25.  Here is the introduction:
PARSIPPANY, NJ, Sep 25, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Suburbs make up the fabric of America, offering a little more space (and a lot more peace and quiet) for people who prefer backyard barbecues and soccer games over the hustle and bustle of city-life. As part of its five-part "Best Places to Live" series, Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC partnered with Onboard Informatics to rank the top places for Suburbanites and analyze trends based on data from more than 11,000 suburban areas.
The data revealed a glimpse into life in the suburbs, where many people own their homes (75 percent), drive to work (92 percent) and spend approximately four times as much to prepare meals at home than go out to eat.
Cherry Hills Village, Colo., approximately 10 miles south of downtown Denver, rank as the No. 1 Best Place for Suburbanites, receiving the highest score in the nation with a nearly 100% home ownership rate and less than 20 minute average commute. The following communities make up the Top 10 "Best Places to Live for Suburbanites," scoring high on a range of attributes, such as access to suburban amenities (grocery stores, banks, etc.), proximity to good schools, commuting by car and community safety:
1. Cherry Hills Village, Colo.
2. Clyde Hill, Wash.
3. Haworth, N.J.
4. Englewood Cliffs, N.J.
5. Wolf Trap, Va.
6. Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.
7. Indian Hills, Ky.
8. East Grand Rapids, Mich.
9. Rossmoor, Calif.
10. Huntington Woods, Mich.
Here are the top five for the state of California, of which three are in the OC:

CALIFORNIA                 1        962.03  Rossmoor
                          ----------------------------------------------------------
                          2        942.51  Coto de Caza
                          ----------------------------------------------------------
                          3        938.76  Villa Park
                          ----------------------------------------------------------
                          4        937.71  Hillsborough
                          ----------------------------------------------------------
                          5        927.89  Lucas Valley-Marinwood

Since the top two suburbs happen to be unincorporated communities within the County of Orange, congratulations should also go to the County and my fellow Board of Supervisors.   An interesting side note, in the top 5, Villa Park and Hillsborough are cities, and it appears that Lucas Valley-Marinwood is unincorporated.  The Long Beach Press-Telegram covers the great news in the first piece below.  (With 58 counties – garnering three of the five top spots is big, big news – congratulations to San Mateo and Marin Counties on the two other top-five suburbs.)  P.S.  When I think of Hillsborough, I think of Carolands, a fun California State Historical Landmark to visit and photograph (No. 886).

Five years ago, while driving south on Pacific Coast Highway, my then 17-year old asked why I pulled off the road into Sunset Beach.  He wanted to get home and had no interest in sight-seeing.  I informed him that Sunset Beach (at that time) was unincorporated, therefore I was technically the Mayor of the area.  That piqued his interest and calmed his anxiousness to keep heading south.  Consequently, the “Mayor” moniker has stuck ever since.  The Los Alamitos-Seal Beach Patch covers this aspect in the second piece below.  I didn’t get much of a stay-cation this July, thanks to the arrest of Carlos Bustamante, but my wife and I did find a little chunk of time to pull into Rossmoor and take a walk.  I would recommend this to you, and you’ll quickly see why Rossmoor rated so highly.

Rush Limbaugh

AW GEEZ, WHAT THE HELL'S WRONG WITH SOME OF OUR NATIONAL GOP AND CONSERVATIVE LEADERS?

If  Mitt Romney listens to some of these people, he's sure to lose the election.

Take Rush Limbaugh, as just one example of someone giving wrong advice. He constantly rails against Obamacare, but offers no alternative.

Folks, I'm willing to bet that most ordinary voters in this country believe that our tax money should go into making sure that everyone has affordable healthcare instead of being wasted on foreign aid and foreign wars. But, Limbaugh and those like him seem to not understand this.

I've written it before. Obama is promising a chicken in every pot, and the Republicans are just complaining about that instead of doing what they should be doing: promising (and delivering) two chickens in every pot.

Our federal government wastes billions of our tax dollars instead of using that money to improve the lives of U.S. citizens. The government has NO money.  The money it spends is OUR money, and it should be spent in ways that best help US.

HERBERT LOM DEAD AT 95

UPDATE: SHORT CLIPS OF LOM AS CHIEF INSPECTOR DREYFUS

Lom was always one of my favorite character actors.  He never really made it big, but was always memorable.

He never did much in the U.S. but did appear in Streets of San Francisco.

TRIVIA ALERT: Back when Streets of San Francisco first came out on TV and was bombing, I wrote the producers and essentially told them that they were screwing up because the show looked and sounded like New York and nothing like San Francisco.  I then gave some suggestions for what some of the main characters should look and sound like and where they should hang out, etc.

Some of my suggestions were incorporated and the show went to the top of the ratings. I kid you not.

A few months later, I got a call from my agent who said that Streets wanted me to read for a part in the show.  I did so, but the part was eventually cut out.  I always thought the producers had called as a way to thank me for my suggestions.

SHUCKS, I'M FOR INDEPENDENCE, BUT THIS DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE FROM ENGLAND IS JUST A CUT AND PASTE JOB PUT TOGETHER BY THOMAS JEFFERSON

Not John Stephens (a lawyer with
offices in Newport Beach)
John Stephens (a lawyer with
offices in Newport Beach) standing

you forget that he's a lawyer (with
offices in Newport Beach)
According to a blurb in the Daily Pilot [HERE], John Stephens (a lawyer with offices in Newport Beach) considers stopping the charter as one of his major issues in this campaign.

Huh?

You read that right, folks. This guy doesn't want the citizens of Costa Mesa to have more local control and wants us to march to the tune set by politicians in faraway Sacramento.

Luckily, those who think like Stephens (a lawyer with offices in Newport Beach) lost the argument back when the American colonies decided home rule was better than having to stay under the control of faraway England.

Perhaps back then there were some who said: "Shucks, we're for local control, but just not this local control. Why, this Declaration of Independence is just a cut and paste job.

"Look, you can clearly see that some of its ideas come from the Magna Carta.  And, Thomas Jefferson should have had all the colonists involved in committees to come up with this document.  What's the rush? Why all the divisiveness?

"Jefferson isn't listening to us. My neighbor wanted a clause in the Declaration that we would elect our own King. Where  is that in the Declaration?  It's not there.

"Another neighbor said he talks to his chickens and they have some great ideas and he says that we should have a committee of chickens.   After all, they're stakeholders. They live here. That's not in the Declaration, either.

"And, if being free from England is such a good idea, then why aren't all the other colonies trying to be free?

"Folks, we're just not adult enough for local control. The politicians in England know what's best for us."

SOME OF THE COMPETITION WE FACE---10,700 SPANKING NEW HOMES TO BE BUILT AROUND THE GREAT PARK

The First 700 homes are now being built.

So, where will young upwardly mobile families want to live and raise their kids?  Will they choose new communities with similar families and shared American dreams or will they choose Costa Mesa with low school scores, charities up the ying yang and a whole bunch of pathological altruists who keep puffing the charities and services for illegal aliens?

We have to say it again.  Costa Mesa is competing for the best citizens with every other city.  If we lose the competition we will fall ever lower.

In this competition, we don't have to attract every upwardly mobile family, we just have to attract enough so that Costa Mesa keeps moving up.

Are we doing enough to attract them? We don't think so.  We need to do more to improve the Westside and we need to do it fast.  We especially need to get W. 19th Street turned into a cafe society street instead of a street known for a soup kitchen, pawn shops, thrift stores, liquor stores and other downscale uses.

To bring in these improvements we need to make sure the City Council has the right people on it who have the vision and the talent to make things happen.

We need to elect the 3Ms.  They're the right people at the right time.

We may take this guy's latest crap column apart in more detail when we get time, but just look at a couple of his sentences to see where this lefty squish is coming from:

HARLAN: "Let's start with Monahan's central argument: Costa Mesa is somehow under the merciless thumb of Sacramento, and we need to "break free" to recapture local control." (emphasis added by the CM PRESS)

This is an example of typical lefty over the top rhetoric.  "Merciless thumb"?  Who ever said that? Harlan, you're mercilessly dumb with your sophomoric attempts at propaganda.

The simple fact that some of you lefties never seem to understand is that government that is closest to the people is usually the best form of government.  Government in Sacramento is not close to Costa Mesans.

Then down near the end of the column Harlan gives us this pablum that sounds as though it was written by Wendy Leece as she prepared to give us another childishly jingoistic be true to your school speech and about how we Costa Mesan's are special, etc. ad nauseum.

HARLAN: "And we deserve a genuine charter that is thoughtfully crafted, driven by necessity not ideology, and worthy of our community's diversity and resilient spirit."

What the hell does "worthy of our community's diversity" have to do with anything other than this is an overused phrase in the lefty lexicon?

Just as the Daily Pilot is avoiding having regular columns written by politicians during this election season, it should also bar people such as Harlan who are using the free space to produce campaign brochures disguised as columns.

There is no genuine counterpart to Harlan's propaganda in the Pilot as this guy just spews the antis stupid rhetoric and gets to influence people who might give him more credibility than he deserves.

Hey Pilot, let Harlan write guest columns like everyone else, but don't give him a permanent column to do his electioneering during this election season.

TSK, TSK
A supporter of the Frogs calling herself Cindy Black has written the comment shown below, in relevant part, after THIS article in the Daily Pilot:

"But that's okay because most of us Costa Mesa taxpayers can read, and grasp, beyond you're understanding."

Cindy, we're glad to hear that you can read and grasp.  Maybe you can now read and grasp something that will explain the difference between "you're" and "your" to you.

And, then, once you learn those and similar basics, perhaps you can read the charter.  It's only about ten pages long and with your new understanding of the English language, you may suddenly realize that it is good for Costa Mesa.

We long ago learned that when you read something, it helps if you understand the difference between different words.

As Mark Twain once suggested, the difference between lightning and  lightning bug is only three letters (yes, you purists, this is a paraphrase and, yes, we do know the full longer quotation).

According to the DAILY PILOT, only about five newbies showed up to hear the Frogs.

From the who polices the police file...

BELL'S FORMER TOP COP TAKES THE FIFTH

He needs to import some of Costa Mesa's uniform groupies who will tell the judge, with idiot similes on their faces: "He's the bestest police man in the whole wide world.  Why, we dingbats just worship any man in a uniform because we have inadequate personalities and this makes us feel important."

Be sure to read the whole article about Bell's former police chief and his huge salary and his demand for a gigantic pension.

Also read about his alleged comments about fleecing the citizens of Bell.

Folks, before all of this came out, you just know there were dingbats in Bell who did support this guy at public meetings.

Dingbats are just that.  They're stupid people.  Here in Costa Mesa we hear some of the dingbats suggesting that Gary Monahan threw the brick through his own window and that Steve Mensinger put paint on his own truck and that Jim Righeimer was somehow behind the PI calling in the bogus DUI call.

And, we hear Wendy Leece and others tell us at public meetings how thankful they are that our uniform personnel did this or that.

Folks, we pay these people to do what they do.  We expect them to be professional and do the best job they can do.  They're not doing us any favors when they respond to crime calls or emergency medical calls or fires.  They're professionals who are highly paid to do these things.

If they don't give their all to do what we pay them to do, then they shouldn't  be working for us.  There are plenty of other people who want such high paying jobs with the great benefits they get.

FROG LEG RECIPES

There are many ways to cook frog legs, but when you cook them this way, they taste like chicken (little).

This just in: We've found a photo of a  meeting of the CM FROGS, known around the CM PRESS, as the Women's Temperance Movement.

#                              #                         #

THE FROGGIES WENT A COURTIN' UH-HUH, UH-HUH, AND ONLY FIVE NON-FROGGIES SHOWED UP UH-HUH, UH-HUH, THE FROGGIES WENT A COURTIN' ALL ALONE, UH-HUH, UH-HUH. THE FROGGIES WENT A COURTIN' AND GOT ALL SAD AND THEN HAD TO RETREAT TO THEIR LILLY PAD UH- HUH, UH-HUH, UH-HUH

All together now...The Froggies went a courtin' and got all sad and then had to retreat to their lily pad, uh-huh,uh- huh, uh-huh.
[For the Tex Ritter version click HERE.]

According to the DAILY PILOT [HERE] there was a campaign event last night by the CMFROGS--John Stephens (he's a lawyer with offices in Newport Beach, don't you know), Harold Weitzberg (he's the guy who shouted down a speaker at a City Council meeting), and Sandy Genis (she's the flitty woman with that odd Dr. Strangelove tic in her voice whenever she manages to speak a full coherent sentence).

Apparently, also according to the DAILY PILOT, there were a measly 20 people there and only about 5 of them weren't part of the tiny Frog army. Yeah, only about five newbies showed up to hear the frogs say ribbet, ribbet, ribbet.

The CM PRESS would have been there to take photos, but we had more important things to do, like counting our socks.

Anyway, we do regret that we couldn't have gotten a few photos of John Stephens (he's a lawyer with offices in Newport Beach) who apparently showed up wearing a baseball mitt. Good grief!  That was probably to hide the nacho cheese that he previously told us he has on his fingers. It sounds as though the only things Stephens (a lawyer with offices in Newport Beach) didn't do was scratch his crotch and scuff some dirt with his cleats.

Well, hot darn, and chew my tobaccy, this John Stephens (he's a lawyer with offices in Newport Beach) sure is a regular fella, ain't he though? The guy's probably out wranglin' cows in his three piece, pin striped suit when he ain't politickin'.

And, we would have LIKED to have taken a photo or two of that skinny frog, Sandy Genis, who was apparently wearing some sort of old high school SPORTS shirt (when you read this sentence, do it in the Genis manner by raising your voice to a very high nervous yodel on the two all caps words).

And, as far as Weitzberg goes, the PILOT was silent as to whether or not he dressed down like the common folk or showed up in his usual business suit as though we was getting ready to do lunch with his Hollywood pals to pitch something or other.  There was also no word on whether or not he felt compelled to shout anyone down who he didn't agree with.

CM PRESS # 986

Wooden sign with the all
important "welcomes you."

Street scene, Belmont Shore
2ND STREET IN BELMONT SHORE AS A MODEL FOR 19 WEST

Folks, 2nd Street in Belmont Shore has several characteristics in common with our own W. 19th Street. The retail lots are small, the auto traffic is heavy, the parking near stores is limited, single family homes and apartments back up to the retail stores.

2nd Street is a money maker for the retailers and the city.  No, we don't have the actual numbers, but we know from looking at the crowds of locals and tourists along the street that this is a vibrant and healthy retail district.

The street is lined with fashionable and upscale stores along with restaurants with seating out on the sidewalks and a sports  bar or two. The sidewalks always seem full of young families and people all enjoying themselves in what must be one of the most crime free areas of Long Beach.

We think our own W. 19th Street--which the Westside Plans call-- "19 West" can evolve into something similar.  Of course it won't be a perfect replica and few would want that anyway.  But, 19 West has the potential to become the town center of Costa Mesa.  Of course, we need to elect the 3Ms if we hope for such a change.  They're the ones in this race who have the vision and the knowledge and who can free up money to be used to improve W. 19th Street.

And, if 19th Street does get improved so that it becomes a crime free cafe society location, then the neighborhoods all around it will also start evolving as upwardly mobile people start buying homes to be near the activity and night life.

 THREE OF MY FICTION BOOKS

You can get them from Amazon.com and finer bookstores.

#                           #                       #

Yup.  These three--Mensinger, Monahan, McCarthy are the guys who can keep Costa Mesa on the right track.

Immediately following the Register endorsement, this pathetic, whining Geoff West, who apparently sees himself as part of a lefty rapid response team--sort of a super hero of the left (yeah, imagine this guy in tights)--rushes in with another negative whine.  As usual, West's comments are as disgusting as they can be.

This character, who has no children, can't relate to families in Costa Mesa, but he constantly tries to tell families what is right for us and our families.

When you're a bitter old man with no family to worry about or care for, you can spend your time making stupid negative comments in all the newspapers. It's all fun and games for you because you have no real, visceral level stake in what happens in this city.

However, when you have kids who you're raising  in Costa Mesa, politics is not a game and it's not some theory.

Your kids are out and about on our streets, they're in our stores, they're in our schools.  If the city isn't safe and prosperous, your kids might be in danger.  Every parent worries about this.  People like West have no idea what it's like to worry yourself half to death if your kids are a little late in coming home from some event.

The people who we elect to a five person City Council have a direct and major effect on the quality of our lives and the safety of us and our children.  We must choose wisely.  We can't simply write stupid screeds following every article that appears in the newspaper like this childless character West.

Just three votes--3 votes--on our City Council can ruin or improve Costa Mesa for all the citizens of this city.  That's no exaggeration, folks.  Just three people can change everything.

If the wrong three--Stephens, Weitzberg, Genis--get elected, you can expect more crime, no removal of slums, no more improvement on the Westside, more gangs, and a bigger bloated government full of people who will treat citizens like their personal ATM machines and who will take the great pay we give them home to Irvine and other cities when they punch the time clock.

Vote for the 3Ms, folks, your safety and the safety of your children depend on it.

THIS ELECTION: WILL COSTA MESA BECOME THE SHINING CITY ON THE HILL OR THE SLUM ON THE SLOPE?

One usually thinks of those who want to uphold the status quo as being the people on the inside of government, but in this election season in Costa Mesa that's not the case.

The Shining City On The Hill Team
The 3Ms--Mensinger, Monahan and McCarthy are inside government yet they want to right-size government and do things in more efficient ways that will free up money to make solid improvements to Costa Mesa that will help us compete for upwardly mobile residents who are being lured to cities to our south.  In fact, Irvine is now having a building boom, and soon there will be thousands of brand new homes in brand new neighborhoods all planned out for the comfort of those who buy those homes. Irvine is already a strong magnet for young families with its low crime and good schools--both of which are a direct result of that city attracting upwardly mobile residents. That's part of the competition Costa Mesa faces.

The Slum On The Slope Team
The CM4RGs--Weitzberg, Stephens and Genis are the ones who want to return Costa Mesa to a bigger, more bloated, more expensive government with many redundant employees (who often live in places such as Irvine) who will skim off most of the revenue in this city and take it home at night.  Meanwhile, our city will continue to slide ever downward to becoming an aging and tarnished older inner city.

Cities Must Compete For The Best Residents
Don't ever doubt that a city is its residents and that all cities compete for the best residents.

This November You Get To Decide The Future Of Costa Mesa
This November, voters in Costa Mesa will decide whether  we're going to stay in the competition or whether we're just going to tuck our tails between our legs and become the Orange County equivalent of a rust belt city and a new Santa Ana.

Will we become a shining city on the hill or the slum on the slope?

The CM PRESS believes, without a single doubt, that Mensinger, Monahan and McCarthy will help us become a shining city on a hill and that Weitzberg, Stephens and Genis will help us become the slum on the slope.

CM PRESS # 985

THIS JUST IN...

We just got word that about 80 of the 3Ms signs were stolen from yards in Mesa Verde last night.

If you saw anyone near the signs or anything  that looked suspicious, please contact the CMPD at (714) 754-5252.

In fact, many of the streets where the signs were taken were off the beaten path, so if you saw ANYONE on such streets, call the CMPD.

And, if you saw any CMPD marked cars in the area, report that also.

With so many signs taken in one night, there may have been a van, SUV, or pickup truck involved, so if you saw any vehicles on your street late last night, let the CMPD know.

It might be that the thieves may have also been looking as though they were just out for an innocent walk; maybe walking a dog.

There, it's fixed. Probably by a man.

TIME TO TAKE A LOOK AT THAT MARS/VENUS STUFF AGAIN

The CM PRESS has been talking to some of the folks opposed to the present majority on the City Council, who are also opposed to the 3Ms.

At least we've talked to some with whom we've worked with on some improvements to Costa Mesa in the past--who we know to  be honest and well meaning people.

The reason we've been talking to them is that, frankly, we've been mystified about why some of them oppose the present majority on the City Council and the 3Ms.

And, as we've written before, we really do think, in some cases, it comes down to that Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus stuff.

Have you noticed that a high percentage of those who seem opposed to the present Council majority and the 3Ms are women (or is that just our imagination?)?

Many women are often put off with the direct action and abrupt manner of many men.  What a man perceives as being efficient and direct, a woman might perceive as being rude and arrogant.

Of course, many men don't understand this.  They just think they're solving problems in the fastest and most direct way possible and are getting results.  However, many women would rather see lots of talk before action is taken. And, yes, we'll say it, because we know you're thinking it, this also applies to their romantic lives as well.

Look at the photo above.

The problem was the bed was sagging.  The easiest, most direct and fastest way to fix it was to put a car jack under the sagging part. That's what some men might do and if they live alone, that might be the final repair.

A woman, on the other hand, would want the bed fixed so that it looked as though it just came from the factory.

See the difference?

Well, in our local politics, the men on the Council now, and the 3Ms, see a problem and they try to fix it as quickly and directly as possible.

What do you think?  Do we have it wrong?

Westside resident Eleanor Egan

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH SOME PEOPLE?

Geoff West
At last night's City Council meeting, Westside resident Eleanor Egan went to the podium and repeatedly said that the present City Council is "destroying my home [Costa Mesa]."

This is the same silly line that is used by this Geoff West character and a few others and it's complete nonsense.

Eleanor should know better.

The Westside today is on its way up.  Maybe Eleanor has forgotten how things were back when a woman from Corona del Mar wanted to turn the Westside into a new Huntington Park (a slum city next to Compton), which was one of the sparks that brought together a number of us to work to help transform the Westside into a truly nice part of town.

The current Westside Plans (link over on the right) are a result of the hard work that Eleanor and Tom Egan, and a number of others of us did to get the City to stop ignoring the Westside and take an active role in using some of our tax money and resources to improve things.

A bit of history.  When those Westside Plans were finished, the Great Recession hit (yes, that's the same one we're still in), and private developer money dried up.  The City was also in a bad financial state with most of our tax money going into salaries and benefits for redundant workers in a too big and too bloated government.

The present City Council (the one that Eleanor mistakenly rails against) is now freeing up money by right sizing government and they're working hard to bring in those changes to the Westside that are contained in the Westside Plans.

Eleanor is on the Westside every day, so maybe it's like when you look at your lawn every day, you don't see the grass growing, but I'm not on the Westside every day, so when I go there, I can see the changes.  They're obvious.

Drive down W. 19th Street. The first thing you're likely to see is the "19 West" sign.  This sign is a temporary one put up by the City Council until a more permanent one can be designed that will reflect some of the uniqueness of the Westside. This sign is right out of the Westside Plans.

Notice that the present City Council has removed a long existing recycling center that was right on the street next to the Smart and Final store. Also, look at the revamped Smart and Final store itself. It has transformed itself into a welcoming and needed supermarket for the Westside (you no longer have to buy 25 gallon containers of mustard and ketchup; because they have smaller sizes).

Drive up and down Placentia, and it's totally different than it was just a few years ago.  It's starting to look like a real life image out of the Westside Plans.

Drive down Monrovia and you'll see the construction of a large high-end senior citizen complex amidst industrial buildings.  Drive a little further down and just over the border with Newport Beach, you'll see the new satellite campus of Coastline Community College.  Both of these developments are going to put people with money into that area of the Westside.  This will bring some mom and pop stores to the area. The spiral is now pointing up, instead of down.

Drive through the Freedom Homes neighborhood today, and if you remember how that area  used to be just a few years ago, you'll be amazed at the great changes that are taking place there.

Folks, the Westside is going through an evolution.  We're seeing natural selection working itself out with a  nudge from the present City Council as it is guided by the Westside Plans.

There's still lots of work to be done on the Westside--especially in the area around Wilson Street-- but the Westside is no longer the forgotten part of town and it's no longer stagnating.

Destroying Eleanor's home?  Not even close.  What is going on is that Eleanor's home is being made a better place for all of us and a place where people won't be afraid to visit at night.

Folks, when the CM PRESS goes to City Council meetings and constantly asks for things for the Westside, we're not doing it just to hear ourselves talk and we're not pulling things out of thin air--we're simply asking for the implementation of  doable things that are in the Westside Plans and acting as a squeaky wheel to keep things moving forward.
