TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS DOWN IN COSTA MESA

The CMPD received a $364,000 Selective Traffic Enforcement Program grant for fiscal year 2011 to be used to try to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in crashes involving alcohol, drugs, distractions, speed and red light violations.

The current grant runs out at the end of this month. Using those funds, the Traffic Safety Bureau conducted 20 DUI/Drivers license checkpoints with 24,927 vehicles going through the checkpoints and 13,168 drivers being screened. Approximately 4,900 traffic stops were conducted as part of the grant’s special operations.

Based upon available statistics thus far, speed related injury collisions are down 29% and red light related injury collisions are down 27% over last year’s figures. In the 2010 grant year, 748 people were injured in collisions in Costa Mesa compared to approximately 673 this year for a 10% reduction.

Costa Mesa declares itself a 'rule of law' community

The City Council resolution states that the central Orange County town 'is not a sanctuary city' and will uphold immigration laws.

May 20, 2010
By Mona Shadia, Los Angeles Times

The Costa Mesa City Council has voted unanimously to declare itself a "rule of law" community, further widening the divide over illegal immigration in the central Orange County city.

This week's resolution follows an April news conference in which Mayor Allan Mansoor called for stricter regulations to catch illegal immigrants living, working and driving in the city.

{Snip}

Mansoor said before Tuesday's meeting that the resolution "states that Costa Mesa is not a sanctuary city" and will uphold immigration laws.

{Snip}

Mansoor dismissed residents' comments as reckless, adding that they do not reflect "what's being introduced tonight." He said the resolution was aimed at setting the tone for a strong anti-illegal immigration policy both now and in the future.

Sign used by some out of town CMPD
officers during the last election.

IT'S TIME TO HOOP IT UP?
(And forget that we're a Rule of Law City?)

In the September 23rd CEO E-Briefing (HERE) we read that the Costa Mesa Police Department is going to join with some local churches and a local charity named MIKA in a community event to be held in the tax payer supported and citizen owned Downtown Community Center for...er...the "community."

Read on, dear astute citizen reader, and see if the notion comes unbidden to your mind that "the community," might actually be a euphemism for, er....(well, you can decide for yourself).

For starters and for more details on this MIKA/CMPD event, go HERE. As you can see, MIKA talks about ITS NEIGHBORHOODS. HERE'S a list of these benighted neighborhoods (Baker St./Center St./Maple Ave./Shalimar Drive).

Correct us if we're mistaken, but aren't these the very selfsame neighborhoods known to have many suspected illegal aliens living there, along with the gangs spawned from them, along with day workers, along with high crime levels?

Well, let's quickly move on. As you probably know, MIKA is headed by Crissy Brooks who lately has been penning a weekly column for the Daily Pilot in which she or someone else is often crying [HERE, & HERE].

Ms. Brooks was raised in Mesa Verde, but apparently due to a plethora of compassion she has now travelled on a mission to the far reaches of the Third World and now lives on Shalimar Drive.

You may recall that Ms. Brooks wrote an article (HERE) after some illegal aliens from Shalimar were arrested and deported. And, as you can see, Ms. Brooks tells readers of  another crying session:

"I cried with the men [the deported illegal aliens] as I sat in a hotel room in Tijuana explaining that the church in Costa Mesa is standing with them and their families."

In that column, Brooks also writes that  "By Monday, I had six out of the 11 families whose husbands were arrested asking me for help."

Yes, the rent was coming due.

So how would these families, who did not just go back to Mexico to live with their husbands and fathers who had been arrested and deported, find a way to pay the rent and remain comfortable and loved in Costa Mesa?  Brooks tells us:

"Churches, individuals and companies have pitched in to make up the short fall in rent for this week."

Let's see if we can figure this out.  Eleven illegal alien men were arrested and deported, and six of the families (the majority) of the criminals went to Brooks seeking help.

Again, please correct us if we're mistaken, but is the picture that seems to be emerging one of MIKA apparently helping illegal aliens and their families feel comfortable and wanted in Costa Mesa?  Isn't that a reasonable conclusion from the things Ms. Brooks has written?

If that's a true picture, then why is the CMPD  going to join with Brooks and the church and, ah, "community members," to play basketball and have a swell time? And, not only that, but  why is the CEO E-Briefing paid for by the citizens of Costa Mesa actually providing PR for this event?

And, are the cops and any other city personnel involved in this going to be paid by citizens for this schmoozing?  Also, who is paying for the use of the Downtown Community Center?

Throw this into the mix:  Is Costa Mesa really a "rule of law city," (this term means immigration laws will be upheld) or a wink and nod city that says one thing and does the opposite when the cops and City Hall want to schmoze with suspected illegal alien criminals to make them feel welcome in Costa Mesa?

Perhaps someone at City Hall--say Bill Lobdell--can help citizens thread their way through what appear to be mixed messages.  Are illegal aliens welcome in Costa Mesa or are they not welcome?  Will the cops arrest them, or will they not arrest them?

UPDATE: BERKELEY RIGHTIES DON'T BACK DOWN AT THEIR "RACIST" BAKE SALE

Lefty dimwits who don't understand the concept of individual rights, i.e. that all of our rights are individual rights, show up demanding group rights for favored groups.

And, what happens, boys and girls, when you throw individual rights out the window and give group rights to one group based on skin color? Why, you discriminate against people who don't have that favored skin color. That's the real problem with group rights.

The concept of individual rights helps bubble up the best in everything. The concept of group rights just rewards some and punishes some regardless of individual abilities.

With individual rights will the outcomes in society be less diverse? Yup. But, that's the way of nature. Nature just isn't fair as humans might define "fair." And, nature doesn't give a damn. It works endlessly, tirelessly, mechanically, dispassionately to reward the fastest, the strongest, the most capable in every action that organisms of every kind take.

Oh, wait a minute, there are two flies on my desk. I whack at one and get him. He was too slow. The other one was faster and escaped. The slow one won't live to pass on his slow genes to other flies. The fast one will do so. In time, the population of flies will become faster, not slower.

It's called evolution and natural selection.

THE ATTEMPT TO LEGITIMIZE AND NORMALIZE ILLEGAL ALIENS CONTINUES IN COSTA MESA

Local lefties want you to go to picnics and attend other events with criminals who have broken into this country and who, in many cases, then receive charity handouts in Costa Mesa to give them a quality of life that you have to work hard to maintain.

This is an attempt to lull you into accepting these criminals as your neighbors.

It appears that some in local government and some out of town police officers are at least complicit in this as they continue to schmooze with suspected illegal aliens in Costa Mesa.

There are also attempts to have you think that this is sanctioned by the local government.

Don't buy it.

Resist the attempts to turn Costa Mesa into a stealth sanctuary city that harms and cheapens citizenship and the quality of life of citizens.

Illegal aliens are illegal aliens.  They should be deported.

FOOTBALL:  CMHS MUSTANGS BEAT OCEAN VIEW 34-31

The Mustangs have a good offense, but defense still needs some work.  Ocean View shouldn't have gotten anywhere near 31 points.

AGENDA FOR NEXT WEDNESDAY'S PARKS AND RECREATION MEETING

As usual, there's a tree removal request on the agenda. Two trees near one residence are involved. Also, as usual, staff is recommending that the trees not be removed.  Ho hum.

In its report, staff completely ignores the problems caused to the humans who must use the sidewalks being uplifted by the tree roots and the danger posed by the trees falling (these are Eucalyptus trees much like the one that killed a girl on Irvine Blvd.), and instead focuses on the health of the trees.

Since the trees are healthy, they get to remain.

The CM PRESS got this same trees first, humans second response when we tried to get the tree hugging staff to remove a Carrotwood tree in Mesa North.

In our case, we didn't even bother going to the rubber stamping Parks and Recreation Commission with our request.  Most of the commissioners are party suits who aren't even known to most improvement minded people in Costa Mesa, and they just mostly do what staff asks them to do.

TWO ARRESTED IN JULY MESA NORTH AMBUSH SHOOTING AT PAULARINO SCHOOL
[Verbatim CMPD press release below]

On September 21st, Costa Mesa Police Detectives arrested Jose Jeremias Ayala and Denise Marie Enriquez for attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder, stemming from the shooting that occurred the night of July 16th in the parking lot of Paularino School located at 1060 Paularino Avenue, Costa Mesa.

At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16th, the Costa Mesa Police Department responded to a reported shooting that had occurred in the parking lot area of Paularino School. The victim, 26 year old Wilfren Banejas-Rodriguez, had been shot by a male assailant while sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. Banejas-Rodriquez had driven to the area presumably to meet with female acquaintance after completing his work shift as a security guard in south Orange County. While waiting for the female to arrive, and still wearing his security officer’s uniform, the victim saw a male subject wearing a hooded sweatshirt standing nearby and apparently talking on a cellular phone. That subject then turned, approached, and began shooting at Banejas-Rodriquez. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his left arm, torso and left shoulder/neck area. He was hospitalized and treated Western Medical Center, Santa Ana. His wounds were found to be non-life threatening, and Banejas-Rodriquez had since been released from the hospital and is recovering from his injuries.

During the next two months, detectives ascertained the identity of the woman Banejas-Rodriguez was supposed to meet by the school. That woman, Denise Enriquez, was known to the victim as a friend and both had a previous relationship, however having infrequent contact recently. Investigators believe Enriquez called the victim, at the request of arrestee Jose Ayala, asking the victim to meet with her. Ayala also had a relationship with Enriquez, and additionally knew the victim (Banejas-Rodriquez). Detectives learned that Ayala had made prior threats to the victim, over a long simmering personal issue. This apparently stemming from Ayala believing the victim had disrespected both he and a member of his family.

Ayala had communicated with Enriquez, soliciting her assistance in getting the victim to meet with her, knowing that Ayala intended to harm the victim. Enriquez contacted the victim on July 16th with a ruse, asking if he could give her and her daughter a ride from the area of the apartments across from Paularino School. Being familiar with the area, the victim agreed, telling her he could not do so until after 10 p.m., once he had finished work. Not suspecting any danger, the victim arrived at the school, receiving another call from Enriquez confirming that he was there. Within moments, the male suspect-shooter, believed to be Ayala, approached and shot Banejas-Rodriguez.

Neither the victim, nor the two arrestees have any known gang affiliations, and the motive in this shooting appears to be a personal, vindictive, grudge. Ayala and Enriquez were arrested separately yesterday, and initially transported to the Costa Mesa Police Department Jail where they were booked for conspiracy to commit murder in the attempted murder of Wilfren Banejas-Rodriguez. Both arrestees were later transported and booked into the Orange County Jail.

Ayala’s bail is set at $1,000,000, and Enriquez’s bail is set at $500,000.

Barbara Venezia who must buy Lucy's red hair dye by the tanker load wants to know if "negative" publicity in Costa Mesa is messing with the O.C. brand?

Notice how the column sets up the premise--right in the headline--that the publicity Costa Mesa is getting by trying to save money and right size government is "negative."

The CM PRESS rejects the premise.  We think the publicity the city is getting is good.  We think O.C.'s brand is improved by the Costa Mesa publicity.

Venezia is writing for that small group of lefty numbnuts who go to the podium at each city council meeting to say the same tired and stupid things that they always say.

BLACK WOMAN WHO SLASHED THE FACES OF TWO FEMALE TEENS SOUGHT IN NEW YORK

The press just couldn't bring itself to say the attacker is Black, but the sketch shows it.

Now, wouldn't it be relevant to report the race of the victims, especially since no motive is known for the attacks?  Could this be a hate crime? Wouldn't a racial description of the victims give us a clue about this?

We'll answer for you.  Yes, a racial description of the victims could give us a clue as to whether or not these attacks were racially motivated or not.  Perhaps that's why the press didn't tell us the race of the victims--when victims are White and the attackers non-White, the race of the victims is usually not given.

Had the attacker in this story been White and the victims Black, the story, more than likely, would read like this:  "White woman slashes the face of two Black girls. Police suspect it was a hate crime."

The CM PRESS has an idea to help save money.  There are a whole bunch of swell Carrotwood trees (Cupaniopsis anacardioides) lining certain streets in Mesa North that could be taken and put over on Irvine Ave.

The Carrotwoods are easy to find. There's usually a sewer rooter truck parked right near them and if the rooter guy has gone to lunch, just look for the broken sidewalks, curbs and streets and maybe people tripping.  And if both of those methods fail, just walk barefoot near the trees in Mesa North and if your feet get bloody from the very sharp nutshells all over the ground, you've found a Carrotwood.

NOT A REAL INDIAN

Blacks are protesting being moccasined out of the Cherokee Nation.

Some Blacks are even claiming that the Red skins have been living like White skins--you know, that White privilege stuff.

Now you, as a discerning reader, understand how some Black skins are trying to scalp the Red skins by associating them with White skins.

But for those who do not read the CM PRESS (but who really do read it) and who are not so discerning, let us  explain. And, we promise not to use a forked tongue such as the one used by Wendy Leece when she led the GOP suits to believe that if they gave her their support in the last election that she wouldn't give away the city to the unions.  We keep our treaties.

You see, the Red skins have a natural shield against charges of racism from Black skins, being that they are also a minority.  This natural shield is something that White skins can't wield. So, if the Black skins can make people think the Red skins are living like White skins, then the Black skins will have the high moral ground.

And speaking of Indians and faux Indians.  I went to one of my union's (SAG) picnics a few years ago and there was a dust up as Iron Eyes Cody (the famous crying Indian) tried to sell blankets and trinkets.  Anyway, the SAG suits stopped ol' Iron Eyes from making a few bucks on the side.  And, this was even before it was revealed that Iron Eyes wasn't a real Indian, but was of Italian extraction.

Here's the plain truth, and it's a law of nature.  You have to be born an Indian to be an Indian. Got it?  Maybe someone figured that out and that's why the proposed Lone Ranger movie staring Johnny Depp as Tonto fell apart.

Now, what's the first thing you think of when you hear the word Indians?  Right.  Cowboys.

You don't have to be born a cowboy to be a cowboy.  You just need the hat and boots.  Marion Morrison figured that one out pretty early in his career, pilgrim.

But, of course, being a cowboy is not the same thing as being an Indian, so if you're an existentialist and you really believe in "being before essence," you will find that your ability to truly create yourself only applies to things that can be layered on over your genes.  Thus, every Indian can be a cowboy, but not every cowboy can be an Indian.

Now, don't tell Willie Nelson that Indians are born and cowboys are made, because it appears that he thinks he was born a cowboy. We don't want the guy to have an identity crisis and become alienated from his authentic self like so many others in our present Dark Age. N'est-ce pas?

Mesa North Tree & Graffiti

In the coming months, you're going to hear a lot about negligence, rescuer liability and lack of legal protection for good Samaritans in California.

You'll also hear about the liability of both Newport Beach, where the tree was located, and Costa Mesa, where the tree fell, and  the duty of both cities to inspect and make safe.
Speaking of trees...

We've long felt that Costa Mesa generally does a lousy job of protecting the public from trees.

We'll just give you one (to keep your eyes from glazing over) of many leafy examples that we could cite.

Back in the '60's  Carrotwood trees (Cupaniopsis anacardioides) were planted in front of homes in the parkways between the sidewalks and the streets in Mesa North.  These parkways are owned by the City, but must be maintained by the home owners--at great difficulty because of the friggin' Carrotwoods.

The Carrotwood trees have roots that constantly lift and break the sidewalks, curbs and streets; not to mention the constant blocking of sewer lines (which of course we just did mention).

When the CM PRESS asked the City to remove one particularly nasty Carrotwood, the City told us to go climb a tree.

When we told the City that the roots were causing constant sewer blockages (roto rooter trucks are an every day sight in Mesa North), the City replied that we should spend a couple of hundred bucks to have a rooter company send a camera through our sewer line to prove our point. Then, the City might consider removing the tree (at our expense).

We also pointed out the uplifted sidewalk that is a tripping hazard--and which is troublesome for the people in wheelchairs in the neighborhood.  Unionized City employees then sprang into action (Well, "sprang" might be an exaggeration--"ambled" might be a better word. Hey, they are unionized.) and ground down the sidewalk and also made a little ramp of asphalt. Neither of these fixes have worked very well, we must tripingly add.

And, get this.  When the City came out to put in a new curb right next to the Carrotwood that we had previously complained about--and which, in addition to screwing up the sewer line, and breaking the sidewalk, and the previous curb, and the street--we told the City that they were wasting tax money because the Carrotwood would break the new curb.

We were then given a heaping serving of oil on troubled waters and were told (in a very professional,  "Haruuumph,we know trees, Mr. Citizen and you don't" tone of voice.) that the City would put in a root barrier to prevent root damage.

Not  being a pansy, or any other species of shrinking violet, we reached down deep inside of us to the Quebecois side of our DNA roots and let the City know that we weren't just singing Alouette. No, we replied, in a voice that would make a lumberjack happy, that crappy little piece of plastic with delusions of grandeur that  dares to call itself a root barrier wouldn't work. We, of course, just got more "Haruuumphs."

So, the City put in a nice new curb. And a root barrier.  Within two weeks, the nice new curb was already cracked.

Today?  The Carrotwood is still there.  The sewer is constantly being blocked. The rooter man is getting rich. The sidewalk is still uplifted.  The new curb is still cracked.

And, just in case you didn't follow the link above about Carrotwoods, you should know that the state of Florida considers these trees to be noxious weeds and tells citizens to rip them out root and branch any time they find them.

But, of course, Costa Mesa isn't in Florida.  It's in lala land.  And, it has "professional" tree people on staff and a no-Parks and Recreation Commission that routinely turns down requests for tree removal.

Why does the Parks and Recreation Commission turn down so many tree removal requests?  We think it's their attempt to save the City money. Or, maybe, the Commissioners have never seen a poem as lovely as a tree.

Oh yeah, we have a call into our cousins in Trois-Rivieres to show up some night with their pet beavers to solve Costa Mesa's Carrotwood tree problem--that the City pretends is not a problem.

Now, do not confuse beavers with Bever.  The former is a furry little animal with a big flat tail while the latter is one of our good Councilmembers whose family has somehow lost a vowel over the centuries.

THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF SUPER HERO MS. CONCERNED

In the 1999 movie Mystery Men, about a group of odd super-heroes, Ben Stiller plays the part of Mr. Furious whose one super  power is to be able to look really, really angry.

That's it.  Mr. Furious has no strength, he can't fly, can't breathe under water, he can't run fast, can't make himself invisible, can't shoot ray beams out of his eyes and he can't fight his way out of the proverbial paper bag.

All Mr. Furious can do is look really angry.

His face gets beet red, veins  pop out of his forehead and his muscles tense up, but that's it. [Digression:  When I was in the Marines we used to say of such people that they had battleship mouths but rowboat muscles.]

That reminds us of Wendy Leece.  No one can look more concerned while on the dais than Wendy.  Give her a pair of tights and a cape and she could be MS. CONCERNED!

Watch Wendy's face whenever anyone goes to the podium to talk about barking dogs or pot holes or the noise from a lawn mower.

Wendy will look as though this is the most important thing she's ever heard. From the concerned look on her face, you'd think the person at the podium had just said that his or her house had been attacked by Godzilla.

Now, this makes people think that Wendy really does share their pain. Maybe she does. But does she do anything to solve the problems?  Maybe sometimes. We're not sure. We think she just mostly shows concern. Period.

Because of the concerned expression on Wendy's face, some people think Wendy is good for Costa Mesa and they then turn a blind eye to the things that Wendy is doing that harm us all in the long run: like voting for union contracts that are putting us in the poor house or trying to stop Costa Mesa from right sizing or from setting the right priorities.

And as far as the Westside goes, Wendy hasn't initiated any improvements over there that we're aware of, even though she has lived there for many years.  Well, actually, she lives in one of the few, or maybe only, gated communties in Costa Mesa and might as well be living in Beverly Hills.

Notwithstanding the above, we like Wendy.  Really. We're not kidding. Yes, we have an emotional side as well as a rational side.  All too human are we.

We share the common human fraility of liking people who show concern for our concerns. However, just as soon as we think along those emotional lines, the rational part of our brain kicks in and we're able to scratch the surface a little deeper and that's where we have a problem with some of the things that Wendy does or fails to do.

Still, we keep hoping that Wendy will see the light and will become a strong advocate for better government and for the improvement of the Westside  before her term is up.

Well, we can hope.

GAGGLE OF SHRUNKEN BRAIN LIBS & LEFTIES

Before watching the Costa Mesa City Council meeting tomorrow night, be sure to read the full OC REGISTER article below on the worker's comp claims made by Costa Mesa's...er..."loyal," "hardworking," "best in the state," workers.

And, be sure to note the names of the usual shrunken brain libs and lefty bootlicker, status quo, suck-ups who  crawl out from under their rocks to slime their way up to the podium to whine (hold your nose to get the right tone here):

"Stop the layoffs." "We have the bestest employees in the whole, wide, Trust In God, bestest City (like our schools that have low API scores, but lots of effusive adjectives attached to them by this same numbnut crowd) in the world, and anyone who wants to right size gummint, save citizen money, and get our priorities straight must be meanies."

Honestly folks, some of the people who constantly mouth these stupid cliches at every City Council meeting are so dumb it's a wonder they can even find City Hall. Many of these  half-dead, mice-people look like they just sucked on a lemon and have shoes that are too tight and underwear that itches.

We get the most chuckles from the Chicken Littles--the morons who constantly go from one hysterical crisis to the next over things that never turn out as they, in their tiny warped brains, think they will.

"The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Costa Mesa is no longer going to have it's own expensive helicopter program."

"An extra day of fireworks?  Oh no! Costa Mesa will burn to the ground."

" Oh no! Cutting back on the police department will lead to criminals flocking to Costa Mesa to rape and pillage."

"Oh no, who is going to take care of us if the gummint gets right sized?"

"A recreation leader who felt pain in the neck while shooting a basketball is costing the city $7,325." (OC REGISTER)

"A police officer with acid reflux and digestive problems got an award of $27,777." (OC REGISTER)

Be sure to read the whole OC REGISTER article on the worker's comp payments being made to  Costa Mesa's mostly out of town employees--there are about 1,000 claims since 2001.

SADRIST DEMONSTRATIONS IN IRAQ

We say it again:  Keep an eye on Muqtada al-Sadr.  He could emerge as the real leader of Iraq.

Since al-Sadr is a Shiite this will, if it happens, put Iraq firmly on the side of Iran which is primarily a Shiite nation and it could cause Iraq to adopt Iran's form of governance in which there is a cleric who has power over the elected leaders.

Who might the cleric with power over elected leaders turn out to be in Iraq?  Why, al-Sadr, of course if he attains the rank of Ayatollah.

COURT STRIKES DOWN SOLICITING DAY WORKER LAW IN REDONDO BEACH

This was the case that many cities, including Costa Mesa, were watching.

Would Redondo's law pass muster?  Apparently, it didn't.

As one judge correctly stated, the Redondo law was so broad that it would bar kids from shouting "Car Wash," to passing motorists.

Laws have to be carefully crafted if cities want them to stand.

DEMONSTRATORS BACK PALESTINE STATEHOOD BID

You have to read way down in the article to get to the way the U.S. blunders around the planet with its dollar diplomacy.  Because the Palestinians are pushing for full statehood for Palestine, the U.S. is considering "reducing the $ 470 million" it sends to the Palestinians each year.

This type of dollar diplomacy doesn't make us any real friends.  It just keeps our pawns in power until the people in their nations rise up and throw them out of office. Then, things are usually even worse for our international relations.

TWO EXAMPLES OF WHY IT'S A GOOD THING THAT SCHOOLS HAVE TO GIVE STANDARDIZED REPORTS TO PARENTS

HERE, from the Daily Pilot, is a letter from Wendy Leece and one from Jillian Beck.  Both Leece and Beck tell us that Costa Mesa High School and Estancia High School are great schools.

Now, the CM PRESS is not knocking either school in this column.  What we are knocking is the attempt by Leece and Beck to argue their point while giving no evidence and only anecdotes, cliches, and false reasoning.

Leece tells us that we should "not just take someone else's word about the schools' quality," but that we should "look at the curriculum."

Huh?  Do you see what Leece just did?  First she talked about "quality," and then she shifted the context to "curriculum."  Ah, Wendy, that's not thinking in a straight line.  In fact, that's what we call a non sequitur.

Quality refers to API scores. Curriculum is just the courses offered at the school.

But, let's pretend that Wendy didn't just give us a dose of fallacious reasoning and let's check the curriculum at, say, Estancia.

Why, gosh, Estancia teaches English, Geometry, etc.  Did you really expect anything different?  All the high schools have about the same curriculum.

But, that's Wendy for you.

Turn now to Beck who laughably and more directly gives us the "diversity is a strength," cliche to let us know the two schools in question are swell.

Tell us, Ms. Beck, how you define "diversity" and "strength" and then tell us how the former helps the latter.  And, tell us how this makes a school better. It certainly doesn't seem to give them higher API scores.

To bear down on this a bit, we must conclude that if diversity is a strength, one would expect the API scores to be higher in those schools that are the most diverse.   However, that's not the case, as indicated by the API scores in the Newport Mesa Unified School District.  In fact, the least diverse schools score much, much higher than the most diverse ones.

Now, it may be that both Costa Mesa High School and Estancia High School are good schools.  And it may be that you wish to send your kids there because they're close to where you live or for other reasons, and that's fine.  But, please don't try to pretend that they're equal or better than the two less diverse schools in the Newport Beach part of the district. The tale is told by the objective test scores.

To repeat.  The reason that the schools have to report API and other objective data in the same way as all other schools is to keep people such as Leece and Beck from pulling the wool over the eyes of parents and to let parents compare apples and apples and make intelligent and informed decisions about their kids' education.

But we have an idea. If  Beck and Leece want diversity (Leece used other terms for diversity), they should go hang out at the bus station in Los Angeles.  Hey, we'll even drive them there in the CM PRESSMOBILE, say, around midnight any night of their choosing.  They can let us know how they were strengthened.

Beware the Jabberwocks, my friends.  What they say sounds like it makes sense until you look at what they're really saying, which, of course, is Jabberwocky.

FOOTBALL--COSTA MESA HIGH SCHOOL BEATS KATELLA 56-42

A score like that tells you that both teams need to work on defense.

Never fear CMHS football fans, some CMHS football players from last year's outstanding freshman team haven't yet suited up either for JV or varsity, but they'll soon be ready.
