MACHINE REPLACES 40 ILLEGAL ALIEN GRAPE PICKERS

Here's a picture of the New Holland Braud Grape Harvester. This machine, which has been used in Europe for years, is now being used in the Willamette Valley of Oregon to pick grapes. It does the work of 40 illegal alien grape pickers in a fraction of the time and it does a better job in selecting grapes to pick.

Also, we've never heard of any consumers getting sick from produce picked by a machine that didn't wash its hands after using the bathroom.

So much for the "we need illegal aliens to pick our grapes," argument.

As we've written in several of our national columns, this is the way humans always adapt to new challenges--we invent machines or better ways of doing things when we are pressed to do so by a need. Yes, necessity really is the mother of invention, dear friends, and we need to keep having a necessity in order to invent new things. That's how we advance. That's how we end up with higher living standards.

If we keep saying we must use illegal aliens as living-machines--as so many industries are now doing-- because we think it's cheaper or easier than adapting and inventing new ways of doing things, we've just essentially made an argument that we can imagine was probably made by some short-sighted hunter-gatherer leaders long ago, and which we know for a fact was made by slave owners in the not so distant past.

Bring on the machines!
