COSTA MESA--WEST TO THE SEA!
Alicia Robinson has a good overview in the Daily Pilot today of the battle that's raging between Costa Mesa and Newport Beach about which city gets to annex certain land.
The CM PRESS's position has always been that if Costa Mesa and Newport Beach can't be combined into one city--call the whole area Newport Beach--then, Costa Mesa should somehow find a way to extend its land to the ocean so our city can get the benefits of being a true ocean community.
The logical way for Costa Mesa to do this is on the Westside.
Look at this map of the area. The blue line on your left is the Santa Ana River. That is the logical western border of Costa Mesa and should be made so. Costa Mesa sits between Huntington Beach and Newport Beach--except at the bottom of this map where Newport morphs all the way over to touch Huntington Beach. That beige area adjacent to the river and just above the red line at the bottom is Banning Ranch.
Banning Ranch is one of the areas that Costa Mesa and Newport are fighting over.
The other areas that are on the table are on the east of Costa Mesa and include the misnamed Santa Ana Country Club which is mostly used by Newporters. They want that in Newport.
The CM PRESS says let Newport Beach take the east and let Costa Mesa take the west--RIGHT DOWN TO AND INCLUDING A SMALL BEACH RIGHT NEXT TO THE MOUTH OF THE SANTA ANA RIVER. We don't need a big beach, just a small one will do the trick.

WAVING JOHNSON HAS A NEW PHOTO
We don't know if Tom Waving Johnson, the publisher of the Daily Pilot, changed his photo in the paper because we thought he looked a little like Alfred E. Neuman of MAD MAGAZINE, but check out the front page of the Pilot today and you'll see the new Johnson.

CMPD CALLS OFF YET ANOTHER DUI/PAPERS CHECK ON WESTSIDE!
For some reason, the CMPD always seems to run DUI/PAPER checks on the Eastside, but rarely on the Westside.
A couple of months ago the department did set up such a Westside checkpoint on Victoria just west of Harbor but called it off after about an hour when it started raining.
Then, there was supposed to be another such checkpoint a couple of days ago on May 2, but this one was also called off.
What's going on? Let's get drunks and unlicensed drivers off our streets. We need such checkpoints on the Westside and we also need them near Fairview/Baker in north Costa Mesa.
The last time the CMPD held a checkpoint on Fairview, there were complaints from OCC and the OCC swampmeet because many people from Santa Ana were nabbed without papers.
Our guess is that someone at City Hall might have passed down the word to the CMPD to not have any more checkpoints on Fairview.
Yes sir. Protect that swapmeet in Costa Mesa that serves Santa Ana and many suspected illegal aliens and to hell with the safety of Costa Mesa citizens.
Interestingly, some of the suits at OCC--even though they don't live in Costa Mesa--tried to defeat Mansoor/Leece in the last election.
