RECYCLING ON W. 19th STREET
Here's a LINK to an article by Jon Cassidy at the OC Register about the recycling center on W. 19th Street that the city wants closed or moved.

By the way, Cassidy generally does a pretty good job of reporting on various Costa Mesa issues. You might check out his efforts from time to time.

OUR DINGBAT METER IS RISING ON LEECE

At last night's City Council meeting, Wendy Leece tried to get the Council to appoint former mayor Arlene Schafer--who was just voted off the Costa Mesa Sanitary District Board on November 2nd--to replace Leece on the Orange County Vector Control District Board.

This is a position usually filled by a Councilperson.

This gig pays $100 bucks a meeting. Had she been appointed, it would have allowed Schafer to continue working on other gigs that pay various amounts.

The Council turned this down.

Now, Ms. Schafer is a nice woman, and we like her, but this sort of stuff where people like Leece try to give full employment to their supporters and pals who get defeated in elections, has to stop.

Elections matter, and the City Council shouldn't be an employment agency for politicians who lose them and who hang around after they're out of office trying to get appointed to under the radar positions that make them money and which should be filled by an elected representative.

If you don't want the OCVCD seat, Ms. Leece, then pass it on to another Councilmember.  We elect Councilmembers to fill such seats.

  1. Please continue to focus on the city stuff - you're good at it. I don't care about genetics or the LHC.
