CM PRESS # 442

[UPDATE]: Rumor has it that Lobdell will  be making about $ 3,000 per week for his PR services.

PR FLAK HIRED

We understand Costa Mesa has hired William Lobdell on an independent contractor basis to provide PR for the city for about 90 days. Apparently, this is being billed as an attempt to make Costa Mesa's government more transparent.

A good start on that transparency would be to reveal the details of Mr. Lobdell's contract, including what he's being paid.

ACCIDENT?

Could Huy Pham have just been the victim of a tragic accident?

Some folks are pointing out things that don't seem to add up to a suicide.

From all reports--from his brother, from his co-workers and from others that knew him--Huy was happy, he was healthy, he was taking college classes, he was even planning on going to Mt.Everest, and he apparently had a strong family in which he received emotional support. There were no apparent signs of despair or depression.  There was no suicide note.

Some wonder if  Huy, maybe on a lark, just went up on the roof of City Hall, perhaps to get a sense of what it would be like on Mt.Everest, or maybe just to get some fresh air and to think, and he got too close to the edge of the roof and tripped.  Remember, Huy was recovering from a foot injury and maybe this gave him unsure footing.

  1. Here is the Lobdell the city hired: A guy who is not religious, then he is, then he isn't. A guy who writes a book about scam artists like Benny Hinn, then goes into business with Barry Minkow, a convicted felon scam artist. A guy who starts a media enterprise that competes directly with the Daily Pilot while he publicly and savagely criticizes the L.A. Times, but then finds that it's OK to go back to work for them a few months ago. Now, unless my guess is wrong, he will have to drop his brand new job at the Pilot to work for the city. This is the guy they hired.

  2. On Lobdell's website for his business, there is a page with three testimonials. One is from one of his best friends, another is from his wife, Greer Wylder. Guessing again but the third one's probably a friend, too. An honest company would disclose these relationships. A successful comnpany would have enough testimonials that they would not have to use them at. This company is neither.

  3. For whatever it's worth, right from the gitgo Huy's death sounded like murder to me. I think one of the other employees pushed him off the roof.

  4. $3,000 a week for transparency work? He's not even transparent on his own website!
