WHY ARE SO MANY INCIDENTS ON THE CMPD CRIME MAP NOT MAPPED?

We've now had a chance to check the CMPD crime map for a few days, and we're alrady seeing a problem.  The CMPD is failing to map many violent crimes.

For example, today at around 3 pm, there was an incident on Baker Street about a mile east of Fairview that involved multiple police units, a helicopter, a fire truck and an ambulance.  When we went to the CMPD crime map, we saw that at around that time there was a battery reported (someplace in the city)--but was listed as "not mapped."  We figure that the incident we saw on Baker Street was what the CMPD crime map was indicating--but, why was the location hidden from the public on the CMPD crime map?

And, that's just one of the examples.  Check out the CMPD crime map over on the right at the very top for yourself, and notice how many incidents are not mapped--meaning you're not told where in Costa Mesa they happened or are happening.
