Summary:  In the 1980's there were a few releases of Lionfish into the Atlantic off Florida.

Lionfish are native to the Pacific Ocean near Asia, but these few fish that were released have adapted to the Atlantic and now threaten many other species. Genetic tests show that the ever growing population came from those few releases--the Adams and Eves of Lionfish in the Atlantic.

In time, one expects these fish to diverge  in important genetic ways from their cousins in Asia as they adapt even more to the conditions in their new environment and head toward specieshood.
