"The part of our city that should go to the ocean has been taken over by Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. They done a pincer move on us, man. They gave us the inland part and then squeezed us out by the ocean.
"Hell, Costa Mesa is closer to the ocean than many parts of Huntington Beach or Newport Beach, so how come our legs been cut out from under us? Hmmmm?
"I'll tell you why, man. It's a friggin' conspiracy. They stole our window to the ocean and we need to get it back.
"And, when we gets it back, I'm volunteering to be Costa Mesa's lifeguard."
"Ah, you don't know how to swim, do you Al?" I asked.
"Swim? I don't need to swim. I ain't goin' in that ocean near the mouth of the Santa Ana River, man. Who knows what folks upstream been puttin' in that thing. I just gotta look good."
