YET ANOTHER CITIZEN COMPLAINS ABOUT THE LOCATION OF THE DUI CHECKPOINT

Many people see problems and don't do anything. They just go along their way and can't be bothered. Jim Righeimer is apparently not like that. If he sees a problem, he gets involved and tries to help solve the problem.

Righeimer is exactly what Costa Mesa needs more of.

MORE ON JIM RIGHEIMER STEPPING UP TO ASK A FEW QUESTIONS

Here's a paragraph from the above linked DAILY PILOT story that is troubling:

"Four police officers, each of whom asked not to be identified because they're not authorized to speak with the media, claimed Righeimer demanded, as a public official, that officers shut down the checkpoint. They said he threatened to call Police Chief Chris Shawkey."

Okay, so here's what's troubling about the above, assuming the reporter didn't just make this up: Four cops who know they're not supposed to speak to the media, apparently violated department policy by speaking to the media but asked that their names not be used.

So, they get to anonymously smear Jim Righeimer who is running for City Council and who is not supported by the police union.

Who are these four cops? What are their names? Are they officials in the police unions?

Are there any other department policies these four cops break?

Look folks, we all know that being a cop isn't an easy job and we also know that Costa Mesa has a lot of good cops.

As a result, few of us want to complain about cops for minor things. We know they're human and can make mistakes.

But, the fact is that we seem to have a few cops who are way too political (and way too liberal) and we think some may be letting their politics trump their professional judgment and may be exerting peer pressure on other cops to follow in their footsteps.

You may recall all the cops in white T-shirts who showed up at a recent City Council meeting to try to intimidate the Council to go along with what the police unions want. Many citizens considered that to be very unprofessional. Also, don't forget that most of those cops in white T-shirts don't even live in Costa Mesa and can't vote here.

The sad thing about this is that the very citizens who most support the police are the ones who seem to be getting short shrift from the political cops (again, because many of them are liberal) and this is not good public relations for the CMPD.
