RIGHEIMER CARES ABOUT COSTA MESA AND TAKES ACTION
Link
Planning Commissioner and candidate for the City Council Jim Righeimer apparently wanted to know why the CMPD was holding a DUI checkpoint where it was interfering with Harbor Blvd. traffic. So, as any responsible citizen would do, he asked the cops about it.
Now, we see hate comments following the DAILY PILOT article linked to above from those who hate the thought of Costa Mesa being improved in meaningful ways. Some of these numbnuts tell us that, boy, now they're not going to vote for Righeimer. What a load of crap. We'll bet you dollars to donuts that most of these dimwits were already not going to vote for him.
Go to any upscale city such as Beverly Hills or Newport Beach and you'll find many citizens complaining about things in those cities. It is those who take the time to complain and who demand that their cities be first class that keep them that way.
But there's more to this tempest in a teapot than meets the eye.
The police unions regularly get involved in Costa Mesa politics even though more than 75% of our police officers don't live here and can't vote here.
And, these unions usually support those running for city council who will give them the highest pay and the best benefits. This means they usually support big government lefties such as Katrina Foley.
The police unions and fire fighter unions are not going to support Righeimer this year. Count on it. Why? Because Righeimer wants a smaller government and he wants to hold down costs.
You can expect the unions to endorse Wendy Leece, though. They have no other real choice. Wendy is conservative on some issues, but she's off the reservation on some others and she seems to have been currying favor with the unions (even though she won't need their support this year).
We need more people like Righeimer in Costa Mesa, both in government and in the private sector. That's how we'll improve our city.
If you see something that should be improved, or if you see employees doing something that you wonder about, speak up. After all, you're paying these employees, including some who are getting more than $60,000 per year just in overtime pay.
No one should be offended by some reasonable questions.

CM Press, you hit the nail on the head. I bet if you dissect the Daily Pilot comments you will confirm that most of those are police officers, lining up to take pot-shots at Righeimer. Nearly all don't even LIVE in Costa Mesa and can't vote. I'm glad Righeimer is standing up to the Police. Someone needs to question the bloated salaries that are costing this City so much. I ask all of you reading this to get out and help Righeimer beat the union attacks and get elected!!
