MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR PAYDAYS FOR SOME NON-PROFIT EXECS
Link to OC REGISTER story.

Hey folks, want to make a lot of money right here in Costa Mesa and have people think you're a new Mother Teresa?

It's easy. Here's your simple business plan: Set up a non-profit corporation. You can get the forms on-line. If you're here in Costa Mesa, establish your purpose as one that will help "the kids." Talk about keeping them out of gangs. Talk about poverty. Then, begin fund raising.

Now, the non-profit corporation you set up can't make any money as a corporate person. But, and here's the trick: you can write yourself big pay checks and give yourself some great benefits!

And, if your non-profit takes in more money in donations than can be doled out to yourself and your employees under your present compensation plan--and is thus looking like it's making a profit--why, just give yourselves big raises so you make the money and not the non-profit entity.

And, don't forget, you can ask the City of Costa Mesa to give you free rent (paid for by the taxpayers of course) as you'll read in the story below.

COSTA MESA'S SCREWED UP PRIORITIES HIT AGAIN

In the above link you'll read about how the after school program called ROCKS, which is held on various school campuses, can't find funding other than by having the City fund the program out of our general taxes.

Well, dial back to what the CM PRESS reported earlier. The City is paying the NMUSD about
$ 200,000 per year to rent sports fields on various elementary school campuses and then letting "non-profit" businesses (including ones that are headquartered in Santa Ana) use these fields for free, mostly for soccer.

These non-profits all charge the kids to play on their teams and they also charge for uniforms and equipment. So, where does the money go that the non-profits take in? Into the pockets of those who are organizing these non-profit teams.

The bottom line is that the City would be taking in about $ 700,000 if it charged a reasonable fee for the use of these fields. Then, it could deduct the $ 200,000 it owes the NMUSD for the rent on the fields and have $ 500,000 for ROCKS or other recreational activities.

Or, the City could charge a reduced rate for the fields and still end up with money for ROCKS or some other use.

Instead, we'll probably hear whining from the lefties like Katrina Foley that we need to raise fees off the backs of citizens of Costa Mesa to fund ROCKS or Costa Mesa citizens will be attacked by kids who become gang members because they don't have ROCKS.

As Jim Righeimer, a candidate for the City Council this year, says: Costa Mesa doesn't have a revenue problem. It has a spending problem.
