This country wasn't set up to have the Feds ride roughshod over the states as it now does.

Today, the U.S. is like a mansion with 50 rooms but with the thermostat in the hands of a few people in Washington, D.C. who not only set the temperature for all 50 rooms but demand the people in those 50 rooms pay for a setting that they may not like or want.

The best government is the one that is closest to the people it serves.

An anonymous reader wants to know why we didn't include the Newport Beach pot bust as a crime incident under Newport Beach--you see, this reader apparently wants to be sure you know that there are whites involved in crime and/or that crime also occurs in Newport Beach (Don't you already know this?).

The answer is simple. In the To the North and South of Us feature, we contrast violent crimes, that usually fall under the category of street crimes (which includes home invasions, etc.), that happen almost daily in Santa Ana with the lack of similar crimes in Newport Beach.

We don't include victimless crimes or white collar crimes--just the violent stabbings, shootings, muggings, car jackings, and similar things that occur on the streets of the two cities. We also don't usually include bank robberies and similar crimes unless they're violent.

And, as in the case in the story immediately below this one, since the OCR put in a racial/ethnic description of the perp as white, we decided to feature this as it's own story, based on the OCR's selective use of racial/ethnic descriptions, instead of putting it in the To the North and South of Us feature. # # #
