Joint statement from City CEO Tom Hatch and Acting Police Chief
Rob Sharpnack on the Orange County District Attorney’s investigation into
surveillance of councilmembers

Recently, the Orange County District Attorney stated that the
Costa Mesa Police Officers Assn. paid to have some of our elected officials surveiled
in the months prior to the November 2012 election. We find this deeply
concerning and will work vigorously to obtain and evaluate all information
about the conduct of any involved Costa Mesa police officers, whether on or off
duty, and to do so in a thorough and unbiased manner.
Close scrutiny is being given to whether, and in what manner, any member of the Costa Mesa Police Department had culpable knowledge of or aided in the surveillance of our elected officials, or engaged in any other violation of the rules, regulations and standards of conduct of the City and Police Department.
If warranted and in coordination with the District Attorney's Office to insure no impacts on its criminal investigation, an internal investigation will be initiated by the City and conducted by an independent party to provide all concerned with confidence in the completeness, fairness, and impartiality of that process. Strong and appropriate action will be taken if misconduct has occurred.
We are sorry that Mayor Steve Mensinger, Mayor Pro Tem Jim Righeimer and Councilmember Gary Monahan and their families were put in this unacceptable situation.

This is essentially what many Improvers have been calling for over the 55 through Costa Mesa.
Our idea is to continue the trench down to about 15th Street and then cap part of the trench with bicycle and pedestrian friendly parks, recreation facilities and outdoor shopping.
As the Improvers envision it, the major capping would be between Mother's Market and adjacent stores and The Triangle. The actual design and auto access, etc. would need to be worked out.

Just a few bad apples with a gimme, gimme, gimme attitude who don't give a damn about the citizens of a city and who badmouth their superiors in the chain of command and who try to destabilize the department from within by their negative attitudes can ruin an entire department.
No organization needs bad apples within the organization. They lower morale and rot the system from within.And when such bad apples with their piss poor attitudes are in police departments, the harm they can cause to the department, and good officers, and to citizens is increased simply because of the nature of the profession.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Replace the bad apples with top quality, intelligent, compassionate professionals who take their profession seriously and who really do want to serve the people and not themselves.

USUAL KNOW NOTHING TRIES TO DEFEND THE INDEFENSIBLE

What you'll see is one of the usual know nothings who is still trying to spin things against mayor pro tem Righeimer with a silly verbose bunch of drivel that is either the product of a confused mind or an intentional attempt to mislead.
False claim: Mayor Pro Tem Righeimer threw his weight around at a DUI checkpoint.
The truth: When the CMPD set up a DUI checkpoint that was dangerous and was backing traffic on to an offramp of the 405 Freeway at Harbor Blvd., during rush hour, then Planning Commissioner Jim Righeimer politely questioned the police about the wisdom of the DUI checkpoint at that location and time.
After that, several cops apparently ran to the press and anonymously badmouthed Righeimer. We were then treated to stories and comments from haters about how Righeimer had charged up to the cops, like a bull in a china shop, and how he had made all sorts of rude demands and threw his weight around.
However, when the actual audio tape of the encounter was released HERE, it was clear that Righeimer was just being a polite and concerned citizen and was trying to avoid collisions and injuries because of the misplaced DUI checkpoint.
While the rest of the herd just accepted the danger, Righeimer acted to prevent it. If you're ever in danger, pray that you have someone like Righeimer around and not the herd of fat assed, tiny brain haters who will stand there mooing like herd animals.
False claim: Former police chief Steve Staveley is just an unbiased professional, so when he quit as interim chief and badmouthed the three men on the city council we should believe him.
The truth: What those who use former police chief Staveley's name in the above manner usually fail to tell you is that Mr. Staveley is a liberal Democrat and a politician. He actually ran for mayor of Anaheim with Democrat Party support and the support of the unions.
Liberal Democrat Staveley's clash with the three men on the city council who are fiscal conservative Republicans should not have been completely unforeseeable. so west is angry that someone actually had the civility to apologize to the councilmen for what they went through? gee, jeff, we have been waiting for a hater, any hater, to come forward and say it was wrong to have this happen , trying to sway an election and ruin lives. a simple statement that the men should not have to endure this does not mean anyone at pd is guilty, it just means you are human and understand these dirty tricks are wrong no matter who does it. west then tries to say Mensinger put surveillance on White for stealing signs. wrong again mr spinmeister. white was not being watched, the campaign signs were being watched! he just happened to come along and destroy a couple of them. and yes, he did it. no doubt he did it. it looks like him and it is his dog he is walking and he lives in the area. anyone can add a tattoo later. why did he shave his beard of many years the night he got caught? then the crap stirrer brings in the troubled employee who killed himself again, the employee who was being counseled due to poor work performance and sleeping on the job. it is really low to keep bringing that up. let his parents rest from this story west. if we brought up a defense on the subject, west would be all over us for bringing up the subject and disturbing the parents. he is one sick puppy. so glad to see how angry he is about this turn of events. insides must be churning.
