HOMELESS PEOPLE NOW SPREADING TO THE EASTSIDE
So say some Eastsiders that we've spoken to.
It's not difficult to understand why.
All living organisms gravitate to where they feel comfortable. In the case of homeless people, that usually means where they can get food and services. And, some of the churches on the Eastside are giving them food and services.
It really is very easy to understand just by looking at nature.
Feed a lone pigeon and soon you'll have a whole flock. Stop feeding the flock, and they'll move away.
It works the same way with all other living things.
Have a swamp filled with alligators?
You can keep hiring more and more alligator cops to try to control them, but you'll always have problems so long as the swamp is there.
Alligators are comfortable in swamps.
However, if you drain the swamp the alligators will move away all on their own. Why? Here is is again, and you can quote us on this: ALL LIVING THINGS GRAVITATE TO WHERE THEY FEEL COMFORTABLE.

NEWPORT USING CDBG FUNDS FOR IMPROVEMENTS
Link to Daily Pilot story on how Newport plans to spend CDBG funds.
The CM PRESS believes that Costa Mesa should use all the CDBG funds it receives this year to make infra structure repairs to the Westside instead of giving any of it to charities.
The Newport Beach City Council understands why the money should go to such tangible repairs. Why doesn't the Costa Mesa City Council get it?
Year after year, Costa Mesa City Councils have been giving this money (our money) to charities that are concentrated on the Westside and which are often acting as magnets to keep the area downscale.
The money would be better spent by using it to spruce up W. 19th Street or even to use as a down payment on buying up a slum building to tear it down and turn it into a much needed pocket park.
Charities are not going to be magnets for young, professional, upwardly mobile families that we need to settle on the Westside, but proper infrastructure repairs will make the area more attractive to them.

UPDATE 2: Still no word from West about when he wants to start circulating a petition to put a new job center/homeless center in his Eastside neighborhood. C'mon Geoffy, was it something we said? Turn that frown upside down and let's get working on that petition, by golly!
----------------------------------
UPDATE: If the City Council even gives a second thought to the nutty idea of opening another job/homeless center, it might want to look at putting it in Pinkley Park or Harper Park on the Eastside. These will be close to Geoff West's home and he can then volunteer his time at the center.
In fact, we're such kind souls here at the CM PRESS that we'll help West circulate a petition among his Eastside neighbors to ask the City Council to do this.
Why, we might even ask that it be called the Geoff West Job and Homeless Center so all his neighbors can remember who brought it into their neighborhood.
And, if West says that there aren't enough day workers or homeless people on the Eastside for this to work, don't worry; if we build it, they'll come.
We'll simply transfer the population of day workers and homeless people from the Westside and from around Lions Park to Pinkley Park or Harper Park.
West, let us know when you're ready to start working on that petition.

EASTSIDE BLOGGER WANTS A NEW JOB CENTER/HOMELESS CENTER--ON THE WESTSIDE
He wants them penned up on the Westside--in the Costa Mesa version of the Warsaw Ghetto.
Yes sir, throw anything you don't want over on the Westside. Those people over there will put up with anything in their area just like people in skid rows everywhere.
After all, the Westside has acted as the trash dump and pig sty for the rest of the city and for Newport Beach for years.
What say you, Westsiders? Do you want a new job center/homeless center in your part of town?
Such a suggestion from this character is an insult to all the people who have been trying to clean up the Westside.
Don't be silent, Westsiders. Speak out. SCREAM IT OUT: THE WESTSIDE IS NOT A PIG STY!
Tell this lefty nimby that if the City makes the mistake of starting a new job center/homeless center it should go on the Eastside as close to this guy's house as possible.
Forget about Werewolves, they're just fiction.
Beware of Werepigs--strange humans who can take on the form of potbellied pigs but who have a hard time disguising their porcine qualities when they're in human form. Well, of course, that's just fiction also.

Those are our opinions. Think we got something wrong? Let us know.

Interesting that you argued over the location of the proposed center and not its merits. One must assume you approve of the concept. Since you like the idea, where should it be located - in another part of town where it will bring down values? No. The Westside is the place. Of course, you have to want the thing in the first place. Since you're on the subject of blight, why don't you call out the city council for allowing that massive pig sty mess in Mesa Verde on the corner of MVE and Harbor? Why? Because it's owned by the Segerstroms, who really run this town, and no one on the council has the courage to tell them to fix it up or they'll exercise eminent domain, that's why.
ReplyDeleteTo Time out: The job center/homeless center is a bad idea for any part of Costa Mesa.
ReplyDeleteAnd, as far as that empty lot on MVE and Harbor, that's going to be senior residences (at least that was the last plan I heard about and saw). Why is it taking so long? Maybe the economy, or maybe the owners are holding out to try to put retail in there as they originally proposed. Got me. But, you bring up a good issue, and if I get time I'll see if I can get an answer and post it. Thanks for reading the CM PRESS.
Porky pig is clearly out to destroy the Westside. Guys like him are dangerous. Fortunately, his nutty idea won't get far. We've got great leaders who are trying to fix the Westside, not harm it. Thank goodness no one reads that guy's crazy blog!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the CM Press. Don't always agree with you, but I don't always agree with my wife, either.
ReplyDeleteI wish you well trying to get any movement on the MVE pig sty. There isn't a soul on the council with the guts to approach the Segerstroms, who hedge each election bet with contributions to everyone.
As for the eastside homeless, it's not enough to make the claim. Please be more specific: Where are the homeless going and who is enabling them? Thanks.
To Time Out 4:37: Sleeping and panhandling on and near E. 17th St. Visit the old Mother's Center, also drive around back. Check the churches nearby.
ReplyDeleteThe homeless specifics are appreciated - thank you. I do hope you ask the council about the MVE pig sty. I really doubt there are any plans for a senior center or anything else because they would have made a big deal out of it. The pig sty has been there for years and the council needs to be challenged on it. I suggest they tell the Segerstroms to develop it in a year or the city will take it over and do it for them. That will separate the men from the boys. It has been an eyesore long enough.
