According to Costa Mesa city officials, this morning a brick wrapped in a threatening note was thrown through a window of Skosh Monahan’s restaurant owned by Costa Mesa Mayor Gary Monahan.
The incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. after the restaurant had closed. Two workers inside were unhurt. Monahan was not at the restaurant at the time.
Contents of the note weren’t revealed, but Monahan classified the words as “threatening” and related to the City Council’s March 1 decision to explore the viability of outsourcing 213 city jobs.
“This is sad and disturbing that this can happen to an elected official in Costa Mesa,” Monahan said.
The Costa Mesa Police Department is investigating, but some citizens believe this should be handled by an outside police agency and because this threat was accompanied by a physical act of terrorism against an elected official, that the FBI should be called in to help with the investigation.

THE DAILY PILOT WAS KIND ENOUGH TO RUN ANOTHER OF MY COLUMNS
Years ago, when I was one of the original members of a very early libertarian group in NYC, the editor of the group's publication ran one of my poems in the publication.
I figured he must have recognized how great it was.
Then, I didn't see him around for a few months and when I finally bumped into him again, he said,
"You know, I finally figured out what your poem was about."
That surprised me so I asked him why he ran my poem if he didn't know what it was about.
He replied that he had a little space to fill in the group's magazine and my poem fit the space just right.

ReplyDeleteIn case no one has noticed, there is a bacteria growing in Costa Mesa. Like mold, and mildew, it is extremely destructive. What was once a single bacteria, has now spread out with 3 distinct branches.
ReplyDeleteFirst we had “Derail the Sale” which attempted to destroy our Orange County Fairgrounds, along with their Fair Board and CEO. Next we had “Costa Mesa First”, which attempted to destroy Jim Righeimer’s election chances. Now we have “Repair Costa Mesa” that has made full frontal attacks against our city council and city CEO. Greg Ridge, Sandy Genis, Geoff West, along with assorted union hacks, city employees, and developers, are the common denominators of these “pseudo groups”. All three "groups" purport to represent the average Costa Mesa resident, yet none of them do. Our local taxpayers are considerably more savvy than they appear to be. In the end, these rabble rousers are only making public spectacles of themselves.
This is the only element in town that could possibly have an interest in throwing a rock through Gary Monahan's window, or pushing Huy Pham off the roof. The FBI should look to the malcontents first.

ReplyDeleteI more and more go to your blog for the local news instead of the Daily Pilot where I find the articles and blogs mostly inaccurate and filled with bias and hate.
Regarding the disturbing act of terrorism against the mayor, I suggest the investigators begin with the pseudonyms listed below. They could demand the associated email addresses from the LA Times/Daily Pilot and through a court order have the email internet providers give the real names. I feel it is time to stop the hate in Costa Mesa before someone is seriously hurt. This is a wake up call for us all.
