CM PRESS # 821

COSTA 2015...

FROM THE CM PRESS TEST KITCHEN:

GREEN TORTILLA SOUP

(Even if you don't like soup, you may like this one.)

3  boneless chicken breasts (we often use just one chicken breast and keep the       rest of the recipe as is).
2  32 oz boxes of Trader Joe's Chicken broth (reg or low sodium or one of each)
1  16 oz jar of La Victoria salsa (thick and chunky, med, green)
1  can black beans rinsed 16 oz
1  can garbanzo beans rinsed 16 oz
1  large carrot chopped
1  bag white frozen corn (petite corn). 16 oz.
1  tsp black pepper
1  tsp cumin
1  tsp seasoned salt (optional--we leave it out, because of the salt in the                    broth and the tortilla chips)

Add the following necessary ingredients to individual bowls at the table--not to the main soup pot:

--Grated cheese of your choice  (we use cheddar or a Mexican blend of                    cheeses that come prepackaged at Stater Bros.). A couple of heaped                    tablespoons.
--Sour cream (regular full fat works best). A couple ot tablespoons or more.
--Tortilla chips.  A handful or more.

Procedure:

Cook chicken breasts in a little oil or boil them (we boil them) and cut them into spoon size pieces.  Heat the broth and add all ingredients until warm, about 20 min.  Top each soup bowl with the cheese, the sour cream and the tortilla chips (either whole or broken up by hand).

This refrigerates well and the flavors blend nicely over a couple of days. Be sure to not add the cheese, the sour cream or the tortilla chips until the soup is in the individual bowls each day.

Some other recipes call for garlic and onions, but the recipe above without them seems to be a perfect blending of ingredients.

ETHICS OF THE CMPD

Here's this column again in case you missed it with our late in the day post
yesterday.

Some observers say the Code of Ethics and CMPD Mission Statement and Organizational Values sound good, but it doesn't appear that all officers in the CMPD are living up to these standards and they wonder if these bad apples will be given their walking papers.

THE LAW ENFORCEMENT CODE OF ETHICS AND THE CMPD MISSION STATEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL VALUES

We obtained the two documents below from the CMPD today as a result of our Public Records request.

We also reviewed about 25 pages of material in a loose leaf binder that was split into two sections. The first section was Disciplinary Policy and the second section was General Orders.

Section 1000.20  was typical of the material and what you might expect:  Untruthfulness:  No officer shall knowingly make any false statement to any member of the department when questioned, interviewed or in submitting reports.

THE WORLD...

Survival of the Fittest
[If you do not reproduce, you are unfit]

So, you've made it to a new year.  You probably think, if you think along these lines at all--and you should--that you are one of the fittest humans, because your name isn't on the obituary pages yet.

Not so fast.  Nature defines "fittest" by looking back.

It is not you who is the fittest, it was your parents. You are proof that they were the fittest of their generation because of your existence.  Your life is proof of that. Your parents reproduced. They made more like themselves. They made you.

By contrast, those in the prior generation who did not have children who survived them are judged unfit by nature. They are extinct.  But, your parents did the right thing and had at least one child (you) so that they survived extinction by passing on their genes to you and also to your siblings if you have any.

Now, it's up to you. If you do not reproduce; if you do not  have children who survive you, you will be judged unfit by nature. And, if you are now too old to have children, and can't possibly have any, then you are now judged unfit while you still live. You are walking extinction. You are a deadender.

Nature doesn't care about human sensibilities. There are no ifs, ands or buts in nature. The command is very simple: Make enough more like yourself to take your particular genotype into the next generation or you are a deadender and you are extinct.
