Just another example of how the fundamental processes of evolution work, as a small group of people or even single individuals either are lucky by being born with genes that give them a survival advantage or they get lucky in having the right mates who have the right genes or they may just be plain lucky and lived long enough to have plenty of children while others, for whatever reason, had no children or too few children.
Breeders always have a chance of living past the grave in their offspring, while non-breeders are just extinction walking.
Another example of people being descended from just one or a few others is the fact that about half of all White European descended people now alive have Charlemagne in their family tree. Charlemagne did what nature commands: breed and make more like yourself and never stop.
And, Charlemagne's genes survived plagues, wars, accidents and everything else our dynamic existence could throw at them. The carriers of his genes are now, as I wrote above, about half of all European descended people.

UPDATE: 4:37 p,m, 9/10/14--The CMPD has just confirmed via a press release that the suspect is a 20's something Hispanic. The CMPD has also confirmed that they have been unable to locate the suspect. [HERE'S A CLUE: LOOK IN THE MESA DEL MAR SLUM. Our guess is that the suspect lives in that slum and just went into his apartment where more than likely he lives with a large group of other suspected illegal aliens gang members.]
Maybe Foley will fix things by planting some more flowers in front of the slums and by bringing some lasagna to the homeowners.
Meanwhile, the first comment after the above linked story comes from a guy who says he feels unsafe, blah, blah, blah and he blames the present council.
Hey, if you feel unsafe, it's not because of the present council, it's because wimps don't want the council to remove slums and gangs and illegal aliens in your neighborhood!
And, commenter, you have at least one unsolved murder--of a young college girl who naively moved into the slum in Mesa del Mar--and, you have a number of shootings, gang attacks and other violent crimes that all happened while liberals like Humphrey and Foley were doing nothing on the city council and when the CMPD had many more cops and its own hobby helicopters.
Crime is a function of who lives in a city. And, who lives in a city is a function of the housing. When you have slums, you have slum dwellers and when you have slum dwellers you have high crime rates.
Slums are the habitats and safe havens for violent criminals. Get rid of the slums, and the violent criminals will move to where they can feel comfortable--slums in other cities.

SO WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON WITH THE PROPOSED EXPANSION OF OCC?
His scoffing aside, I think that's where things are going right now and that the physical expansion is a step on that path to four year status--which I think is a good one.
The way I would expect it to happen is that Orange Coast College would turn into Orange Coast University and it would do it first by establishing, as a foothold, a single four year college in some area of learning that is not presently strong at UCI. At the same time, it would maintain a two year associate program on campus, as is the case now, at least in the short term. In time,it would add more colleges and schools in specific disciplines.
Time will tell.

The two dinosaurs, Foley and Humphrey, the endorsed candidates of the ladies group CM4RG, announced they were having a public meeting and put out fliers and did everything they could to invite citizens to come hear their stale and out of date do-nothing, no substance ideas that are more about feelings than actually improving our city.
The mayor and his many supporters are citizens and they were invited, so the mayor and a few of his supporters accepted the invitation to this public event and attended.

Well, seeing the mayor at the event has apparently caused the ladies (and their few sensitive girly BFF men who like to talk about their feelings) to have the vapors and almost faint. Read the comments from the ladies in the Daily Pilot at the above link. It's the same tiny herd that often shows up at city council meetings to put on rude shows and whine about every nitpicking little thing as they henpeck, henpeck, henpeck.
The CM PRESS wasn't there, but we can imagine it must have been something like a girls' dorm in college when a man is there and the girls yell "Man on the hall, man on the hall."
