LA TIMES WRITER WHO WANTS TO DO AWAY WITH PROP 13 SUGGESTS THE NEW CITY COUNCIL IN COSTA MESA IS EXTREMIST

Steve Lopez would like to see Prop 13 killed [HERE], yet this guy suggests that the new City Council in Costa Mesa is extremist [HERE].

Read his two columns and see what you think.  Notice that he interviews the usual lefties in his column about Costa Mesa in the second link above but doesn't interview any residents who think the new City Council is doing a good job and who want the Council to continue to right size government and get our expenses under control while at the same time improving Costa Mesa.

But, maybe all you have to know about this guy is the fact that he wants Prop 13 destroyed.

C'MON CITY COUNCIL LET'S HAVE A PROPER BALANCE AND USE COMMON SENSE

A Costa Mesa resident wrote a letter to the Daily Pilot [HERE] about being fined $ 150 for having a hedge that is out of code--even though the hedge has been there for many years.

Assuming that there is no more to the story than what the resident wrote, we think this is absurd.

If there was a complaint about her hedge, the City should have first given her a warning with no fine and then, only if she failed to comply, consider a fine.

While we want Costa Mesa to be upgraded and improved, we're totally against  heavy handed government doing what this letter writer claims was done to her.

We'd like to see the Council  reach out to this letter writer and get a reversal of her fine and we'd like to see the Council look at our codes to make sure we don't have things like this on the books where the City goes to fines without warnings.

Let's not lose Costa Mesa's ambiance while we're improving the city.
