CM PRESS # 283

Costa Mesa Listed As Number Two of California Cities (Apple Valley is Number One) With The Lowest Cost Of Doing Business
Link (scroll down to article).

Four things about the above. One--This is good news. Two--We need to do a better job of letting the world know this fact. Three--We also need to let the world know that Costa Mesa doesn't have such a low cost of doing business because of negative factors, but because the city wants more businesses to locate here. Four--We also need to let the world know that we're right next to Newport Beach and have some ocean views from our city.

In other words, we need to yell from the rooftops that Costa Mesa is a great place to have a business, to live and to raise a family.

CITIZEN FILES COMPLAINT WITH CITY ATTORNEY OVER ANTI-RIGHEIMER SIGN OF THE COP UNION

A citizen has sent a complaint letter to the City Attorney about the sign you see here.

The complaint letter cites two municipal code sections.

Costa Mesa Municipal Code Section 13-123(a)--Requires that a statement be filed with the City Clerk naming the person responsible for the sign. Apparently, this wasn't done.

Costa Mesa Municipal Code Section 13-123(d) provides: "No political campaign sign shall be lighted, ether internally or externally." This sign is lighted either internally or externally or maybe both ways

The City Attorney is investigating this matter.

REMEMBER WHEN RONALD REAGAN(MAY HEAVEN EVER SMILE UPON HIM) REFUSED TO BE BULLIED BY IRAN AND HOW HE ALSO REFUSED TO BE BULLIED BY A UNION (AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS)?

Well, we're seeing similar bullying tactics in Costa Mesa today.

Some union members don't want Jim Righeimer elected to the City Council because they know he's not going to be in their pocket.

They know he'll do what's right for the citizens of Costa Mesa. They know they can't bully him or kiss up to him and have him turn into a weak sister like Jimmy Carter--who was replaced by Ronald Reagan.

Most Improvers who have been watching Righeimer since he got on the Planning Commission and who have listened to what he's been saying, are convinced that he will help bring in the improvement of Costa Mesa that we've all been working for since 2000, when we first started working on fixing the broken Westside.

And, most are convinced that he'll work hard to get our fiscal house in order without raising our fees and taxes unless absolutely necessary.

SHOULD COSTA MESA USE THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT FOR OUR POLICE SERVICES?

In CM PRESS # 282 we linked to an article about ten cities that use the Sheriff's Department for their police services[HERE'S THE LINK, AGAIN] and we asked readers to do the math to see if Costa Mesa might save money if we also used the Sheriff's Department for our police services.

Here's our first reply:

I did the math for the sherrif support of the city of Mission Viejo and it appears that the cost of their service is less than $16 million for their yearly contract. Their population is only slightly less than that of Costa Mesa (100,725).
What is the actual total cost for Costa Mesa to field a local police force? It seems to be something that costs much more for similar services.

The CM PRESS responds: Good work hammertime. You will also note that Mission Viejo is one of the safest cities in the U.S.

  1. Of course the CMPD wants McEvoy. More marijuana shops means more crime and more crime means more police. If a few residents have to suffer maybe they are willing to make that sacrifice. It’s all about job security.

  2. No, medical pot shops do not mean more crime. Los Angeles has proven that. The cops want McEvoy because Righeimer is going to put their compensation in line with reality. We need Righeimer more than McEvoy or anyone else because we need someone with negotiating experience who will tell the police mafia that it's over. Keep up the reporting on the bad cops - it is very hard to find anywhere else.
