Greg Ridge, (a Flopsy Foley supporter) who posts at the almost daily Daily Pilot as "gericault," has replied to the CM PRESS (see comments below CM PRESS # 64 for his full comment and our reply).
When Ridge's long comment is boiled down to its essence, we find that Ridge is telling us that we shouldn't compare Newport Beach schools to Costa Mesa schools to determine the quality of the schools.
Instead, again according to Ridge, we should compare race/ethnicity of the students in Newport Beach schools to race/ethnicity of the students in Costa Mesa schools.
And, the result? Why, Whites in Costa Mesa schools score about the same as Whites in Newport Beach schools.
So, race/ethnicity matters? Race/ethnicity is more than skin deep?
A Robin will build a Robin-like nest and a Bluebird will build a Bluebird-like nest even if Robins and Bluebirds are in the same trees? Nature over nurture? Who'd a thunk it?
Say, Ridge, are you sure you're a liberal?

You're missing the point, on purpose I guess. Let me spell it out for you...the point is Newport Beach schools are no better than Costa Mesa schools. Stop bashing our excellent Costa Mesa schools. Just curious, do you actually KNOW any students at these schools?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous. Not true! Empirical data shows Newport schools ARE better than our schools. Not that we should focus on the bad, but we should work to improve our schools.
