COSTA MESA...

SOME FOLKS CAN'T UNDERSTAND IMPROVEMENT

I keep seeing the usual small group of people complaining about changes in Costa Mesa.

From their comments it is clear that they don't understand.

Folks, think jigsaw puzzle. If you don't understand how a jigsaw puzzle is to be put together--look at the cover of the box it came in and you'll see how the pieces all fit together.

The Westside Plans are the cover of the "jigsaw puzzle box."  They show you what is being assembled.

And, to be clear, the Westside Plans are unfolding exactly as many of us envisioned when we wrote them.

Let me explain further:  To stop the slide of the Westside and then all of Costa Mesa into permanent slum status and to make our city the great place it should be, we couldn't just bulldoze everything and start fresh. That would have been impossible.

We knew that.  So, we had to come up with plans that would encourage the private sector to come in and make the necessary changes on their time and their dime.

What we did was come up with the Westside Plans for specific areas--think of those areas as the puzzle board.  Then, we gave incentives for certain types of construction in various areas. Think of those incentives as the puzzle pieces.

Those incentives give the mostly small developers (and a few large ones) the possibility of rewards for taking the risk of building in a downscale area known in the past for crime and gangs and other problems.

Today, right before our eyes, we are seeing a new Westside being assembled as if  by players sitting at the table and assembling the jigsaw puzzle..

Now, when we wrote the Westside Plans, we knew we couldn't dictate exactly which pieces would be put in place first.  After all, it depended on which properties could be bought by developers and various other factors.

So, what we did, just to put a point on all of this, was to  present the jumbled up jigsaw pieces and the jigsaw board along with the box cover showing what it should look like when finished.

It was up to the individual players to decide which pieces to put in place first.  So, you'll see a few new homes over on this street, and then a mile or two away another few homes and over here you will see a new retailer and then over there...and so on and so on as the jig saw pieces are all put in place.

THE WORLD...

HUMAN EVOLUTION MAY BE FASTER THAN PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT

The supposed out of Africa scenario for modern humans may have happened about 60,000 years ago and not 90,000 years ago if  the oldest human DNA now found in Europe is any clue.

Previous discoveries indicate the likelihood that Europe became almost fully White with many blonds and blue eyed people around 5,000 years ago.

Out of Africa made us White. Now, many weak Whites seem to want to return to Africa genetically. Bye, bye weak seeds, good riddance to bad rubbish.
