CM PRESS # 657

UPDATE ON COSTA MESA FOOTBALL'S WIN OVER SADDLEBACK:  Call it mercy, but Costa Mesa apparently pulled the varsity players after the first half and put in the JV for the whole second half.  Had this not been the case, the score might have been close to 100-0 in Costa Mesa's favor instead of  61 Costa Mesa, 0 Saddleback.

COSTA MESA EMPLOYEE RANKS FILLING UP WITH COSTA MESANS

With the hiring this week of Tom Arnold as Costa Mesa's interim Fire Chief, City CEO Tom Hatch has brought another Costa Mesa resident into the ranks of City employees.

As you probably know, the CM PRESS has been calling for the hiring of Costa Mesans for Costa Mesa city jobs for years, so we're glad to see that this is being done.

Now, we have a police chief and a fire chief who both live here.

Hopefully, this hiring of our neighbors will continue and we'll see more and more jobs going to those who live here, who sleep here, who shop here, who put their kids in our schools and who experience all the same things the rest of us experience.

It's also nice to know that the money we pay employees will start circulating right here in Costa Mesa instead of going to Temecula and other far away places.

In the past when we've tried to get the City to hire Costa Mesans, we were given the sop, by elected lefties, that the City wanted to hire the most qualified people no matter where they live.  What a load of crap.  Our reply was that in a city the size of Costa Mesa, we have plenty of people who are qualified to fill every single job that needs to be done several times over.

BTW we also want the City to buy things it needs from local merchants even if we have to pay slightly more to do so. "Slightly more," means just that.  If we have to pay an exorbitant amount in order to buy locally, then obviously we should go for the best price elsewhere.

What we're talking about is having Costa Mesa take care of Costa Mesa and Costa Mesans first, and letting other cities take care of themselves and their citizens.

The principle here is one of enlightened and conscious self-interest and expanding circles.  In the first circle is you as an individual. Then, the next circle is your family. Next comes your neighborhood. Then comes your city and then your county followed by your state and your country.

Take care of yourself first.  Then take care of those in the next circle, and so on, but don't leapfrog over the smaller circles to help those in other circles until and unless you take care of those in the smaller circles.

INVISIBLE GUNMEN ROB VERIZON STORE ON HARBOR BLVD

Once again we have another violent crime story in Costa Mesa in which the CMPD has not released a description of the criminals.

This hiding of the race/ethnicity of criminals can endanger the public and prevent their capture.

Why the Costa Mesa City Council puts up with this lack of descriptions is beyond us.

How about it City Council? Tell the cops to start giving full descriptions on outstanding violent criminals.

Is anyone surprised that the little boy is confused? Maybe the little boy needs a male role model?

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL LAST NIGHT

Costa Mesa High School  61
Saddleback High School     0

When you see scores like the above, you wonder if Saddleback and the other high schools that have lost with those kinds of numbers to the Costa Mesa Mustangs got things mixed up and sent their ping pong teams instead of their football teams to play Costa Mesa.
