HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Costa Mesa's JV team beat Saddleback 64-0 today. [That's not a typo.]
The Costa Mesa Varsity team meets Saddleback's Varsity tomorrow night.
Costa Mesa's football teams are starting to put the school on the map.
The good folks boosting Estancia might be getting a little anxious about the Battle of the Bell this year.
We repeat our idea once again: We think there should be an all star game between the best players from Costa Mesa and Estancia against the best players from Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor.
In the past, some have said that the two Newport schools were so far above the two Costa Mesa schools that the Costa Mesa schools would be wiped out--sort of like what CMHS did to Saddleback today--but this is a new day for football in Costa Mesa.

BANNING RANCH
The Banning Ranch meeting got over a few minutes ago.
The first part of the meeting was a presentation by those who want to develop the 401 acre site with 1,375 homes, 75,000 s.f. of commercial space, and a 75 room hotel. Like the project or not, this was a good and a professional presentation.
The second part of the meeting was a presentation put on by the Banning Ranch Conservancy which tried, but failed, to make the case that the Conservancy should be able to buy the site and keep it as a nature preserve. This presentation was as loosey goosey a presentation as we've ever heard. The Conservancy didn't do their cause any good today. It was hard to believe that after being in existence for 12 years, that the Banning Ranch Conservancy couldn't answer some very simple questions such as: "How much money have you raised?" The answer was a rambling non answer which seems to indicate that the Conservancy hasn't raised very much money at all. Then, there were questions about how the Conservancy thinks it can buy a couple of hundred million dollar site for nineteen million and who would do the cleanup of the site. More rambling non answers.
You can view a tape of the meeting on the City's website and form your own opinions.
A few questions that we didn't hear clearly asked are these:
What's in it for Costa Mesa? [We answer: Nothing. Newport gets the money and Costa Mesa gets the traffic.]
Exactly where will the bluff road be built? [We answer: Right on the bluff.]
How much land starting at the bluff edge and extending inward will be needed for the bluff road? [We answer: We're guessing, but probably 100-200 +- feet from the bluff edge, depending on geological reports, to keep the road from crumbling down the bluff.]
How many homes and businesses will have to be torn down for the bluff road? [We answer: We don't know. But if the bluff road goes all the way up to 19th Street, there will be many.]
Who do you think you're kidding when you say there will be no 19th Street bridge at some time? [We answer: No one, except the most naive.]

84-YEAR-OLD WHITE MAN BEATEN BY BLACKS
As usual, the press is trying to make this look like anything but a Black racist attack on a White man because of the color of his skin and wants you to believe he was attacked, not because he's White, but because he's a "geezer."
Are you catching on to this stuff yet? It's happening all across the U.S.

PA GOV. SIGNS BILL TO TAKE OVER BANKRUPT CAPITAL CITY
The U.S. continues to slide ever downward.
When you add up all the negatives in the U.S. right now, you have to be struck by the fact that we're probably as close to the conditions that preceded the French Revolution as we've ever been.
Illegal aliens are being treated like citizens, violent crime is rampant, the economy is getting worse, the rich are getting richer, the politicians aren't doing the right things, the courts are slow to clarify laws about illegal aliens or are giving conflicting opinions and the Supreme Court isn't acting to establish consistent laws.

RIGHEIMER TELLS THE TRUTH ABOUT THE UNION AUDIT AND THE HATERS AND BIGOTS HAVE CRAWLED OUT FROM UNDER THEIR ROCKS
We're reminded of the old joke about hiring an accountant (stop us if you've heard it).
INTERVIEWER: "How much is 2 + 2?"
APPLICANT 1: "4"
INTERVIEWER: "NEXT."
INTERVIEWER: "How much is 2 + 2?"
APPLICANT 2: "4"
INTERVIEWER: "NEXT."
INTERVIEWER: "How much is 2 + 2?"
APPLICANT 3: "How much do you want it to be?"
INTERVIEWER: "You're hired."
What's going on is that the unions want Costa Mesa to spend all its money on employees.
The City, on the other hand, correctly says that's not the right way to do things and that some money has to be kept by the City for contingencies. We can't rob citizen Peter to pay out of town union employee Paul.

GADDAFI CAPTURED/KILLED/WOUNDED BY NTC GUNS/NATO BOMBS
The fog of war hasn't yet cleared.
All we know for sure as of this writing is that something may have happened to Gaddafi or someone that may look like him and it happened somehow or other.

BLACK LOS ANGELES TEACHER FIRED FOR ANTI-SEMITIC COMMENTS
We live in a rock-paper-scissors world.
Get ready for law suits about the above firing. "Freedom of speech" and what that really means is very much at play in this case.
