CM PRESS # 658

Map from the Wikipedia article on the 57 freeway (below).

SEE THE RED LINE?

That's the 57 freeway.

See the dotted purple line?

That's the proposed future of the 57 freeway.  It goes all the way down to PCH.

It will run along the east edge of the Santa Ana river by Mesa Verde.

Remember how the railroad was built across the country, with one group starting on the east and the other on the west and meeting in the middle?

The bottom several purple dots on the above map are just about where the Bluff Road is planned to be built for Banning Ranch.

So, the Bluff Road will head north from PCH up to 19th Street.  And, at some time, the 57 Freeway will more than likely head south of the 405 freeway to maybe connect up with the Bluff Road. If that happens, the 57 Freeway will go all along Costa Mesa's western border and end up at PCH.

Thus, the Bluff Road may make it easier for the 57 Freeway to come down to vex Costa Mesa.  The 19th Street Bridge might also hasten that day.

SHARIA LAW IN LIBYA

When you really, really believe in a God who is the ruler of the universe, you try to do what you believe He wants and not what humans want in their cafeteria style beliefs that change as quickly as one changes a shirt to suit ever changing trends and fashions.

Libya is bringing back polygamy and eliminating interest on loans--and that's just for starters.

PROS AND CONS OF BANNING RANCH IN A FEW SENTENCES AND COMMENTS IN THE DAILY PILOT

The CM PRESS view:  Banning Ranch is bad for Costa Mesa and especially for the Westside.

How can Costa Mesa, and especially the Westside, turn a sow's ear into a silk purse?  By getting the developers to do more than just mitigate the problems they'll cause Costa Mesa.

They might, for example, do this by putting in living lofts on OUR side of the project to bring some life to the bluff area and to help integrate the Westside into an almost seamless blending with Banning Ranch.

We don't think there should be any border between Costa Mesa and Banning Ranch and certainly no fences. Let Banning Ranch and the Westside of Costa Mesa blend together in a seamless whole.

Also, we're not wild about a bluff road or the prospect of a 19th Street bridge.  Both of these ideas may just speed up the talk of running the 57 freeway down to PCH along the western edge of Costa Mesa.  Wikipedia article on the 57.

You haven't forgotten that have you, you folks who live in Mesa Verde?  The 57 is creeping ever closer and if it is extended, it'll follow the Santa Ana River.

If the 57 eventually goes all the way to PCH, Mesa Verde will lose some nice homes and streets in Mesa Verde that will be replaced by a very busy eight lane freeway that not only will be taking traffic from the north part of OC down to the beach through Mesa Verde and the Westside, but will also get  traffic from the 405 which will have a major off ramp to the 57 and the beach.

IT SHOULD BE A FUN POLITICAL SEASON IN COSTA MESA

We can hardly wait for the lefties to officially announce their candidates for the Costa Mesa city council so we can start showing you their photos (yes, we have photos already), and letting you know who is financing their campaigns, and telling you about them and why they'd be lousy for improving Costa Mesa.

As in the past, we'll be publishing actual copies of their campaign reports so you can see names and facts and figures for yourself.
