CM PRESS # 229

Report From the City Council Candidate Forum Tonight

We left the forum about a half hour before it was over. Yes, it was boring. No, nothing new was said. The only candidate who knew what he was talking about and who didn't try to be all things to all people was Jim Righeimer.

Righeimer also had the best line of the night, which he repeated a couple of times: "Costa Mesa doesn't have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem." Amen.

Foreclosures in California Hit Latino Homes Hardest
Link
We wrote about this before, only to have a local lefty try to say it just isn't so. Yes, it is so.

And, here in a nutshell is why it's so: The libfeds correctly believed that when one owns a home, one takes more pride in one's neighborhood. Thus, to clean up some of the bad neighborhoods, home loans were given to people if they could prove they were alive. These weren't limited to minority people or areas, but a very large chunk of the loans did go in that direction.

The additional thought on this was that if any of these homeowners went upside down that they could sell their homes and walk away with the equity they had built simply by owning the homes (this was a few years ago when most homes were showing double digit appreciation).

Unfortunately, the program was done nationwide and this resulted in millions of borrowers going upside down at about the same time when the economy faltered.

Most Prisoners Come From a Few Neighborhoods
Link
This may be news to the authors of the above article, but it is something that the CM PRESS has long known.

In fact, the CM PRESS has been trying to get crime maps of Costa Mesa from the CMPD, but with no luck so far. But, we'll keep trying.

Our contention is that by identifying the neighborhoods in Costa Mesa where most of our crime originates that we can then head off crime city wide by improving those neighborhoods.

California Youth Soccer League Gets Free Use of Costa Mesa Fields

At last night's City Council meeting, the California Youth Soccer League, headquartered in Santa Ana according to Costa Mesa's Recreation Division, received yes votes from Wendy Leece, Katrina Foley and Gary Monahan to get the free use of two fields in Costa Mesa for the rest of the year. Eric Bever voted no, and Allan Mansoor was absent.

WELL OF COURSE MANSOOR IS TRYING TO GET VIETNAMESE VOTES
Link

The usual dimwits are now saying that Allan Mansoor was pandering for votes with his resolution passed by the City Council last night honoring Vietnamese who fought against North Vietnam.

No kidding.

What do you think you see when politicians kiss babies, roll up their sleeves in union halls, eat every type of ethnic food they can find, dance Irish jigs in Irish areas, dance Polkas in Polish neighborhoods, get down with the brothers in Black neighborhoods?

A politician doesn't win elections by ignoring large voting blocs and constituencies.
