Ligers born in Taiwan
Link

Ligers are the largest cats. Some weigh 900 pounds, are twelve feet long and are a foot or more taller at the shoulder than Lions. Ligers are a hybrid of a male Lion and a female Tiger. Although Lions and Tigers are of different species, they both have 38 chromosomes and this is what make such hybrids possible.

Will Israel Attack Iran Within the Next 8 Days?

Warmonger John Bolton seems to want that to happen. We reported on this before, but we're doing it again since Drudge has a banner headline this morning on the subject.

California Youth Soccer League Wants Free Fields in Costa Mesa
Link

[UPDATE: Here's a link to a 2008 story about a dispute over fields in Santa Ana between the Boy Scouts and the California Youth Soccer League LINK]

At tonight's City Council meeting (August 17), the Council will vote on whether or not to give the California Youth Soccer League--1301 E. Edinger Ave. Santa Ana-- free use of at least two fields in Costa Mesa.

These fields will be on various grade school campuses. Staff indicates that this league is interested in playing/practicing at schools on the Westside.

Schools mentioned as possible locations for regular play/practice are Whittier, Victoria, Wilson, Rea. However, the league may play on any school campuses in the city that are available.

The president of the league is Arturo Saucedo who lives in Tustin, and the field Representative is Humberto Caspa who gives an Irvine address as his residence. According to staff, the field representative is responsible for game scheduling.

Readers may recall that Caspa wrote a book Terror in the Latino Barrio:The Rise of the New Right in Local Government about Costa Mesa.

Staff indicates that the City presently waives about $700,000 in field use fees for various sports teams. However, the City (taxpayers) pays the NMUSD for the use of these fields.

DAILY PILOT ARTICLE ON CANDIDATE FORUM TOMORROW NIGHT
Link

According to the Pilot, only four of the five candidates will be there. Chad Petschl will apparently not attend. One wonders if it's because Petshcl, who has only lived in Costa Mesa for about a year, may not be able to find Mesa Verde. Or, maybe he'll be out looking for a vowel.

Those are our opinions. Thanks for reading them.

  1. CM Press, I think the election is really over already. The ballot order came out and Righeimer and Leece are first and second. This Petschl guy doesn't sound like he will really run. No one will vote for the pot lady and I think McEvoy is physically handicaped. Some race!! There are 20 people running in Huntington Beach. Kind of sad here.

  2. The city of Costa Mesa has been scaling back city jobs and services. What's the next logical step to set things straight? Start giving away our resources!

But they will contribute to maintenance of the soccer fields right? No?

Let us know what happens with this. I was not able to make the meeting.
