NYPD'S COMMON SENSE POLICY ON FRISKING
Blacks get frisked more because they commit more crimes.

PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING ON MAY 27.
Two interesting issues:

1. Guy wants a hillock in TeWinkle Park named after him.

2. Aztec Basketball Leagues wants to take over the Downtown Recreation Center Gymnasium for seven hours on Sundays for an initial term of six months with a six month option.

This would stop the present drop-in volleyball and basketball games on Sundays that are presumably enjoyed by Costa Mesa citizens.

AZTEC would pay the commercial non-resident rate to use the facility owned by the citizens of Costa Mesa.

COSTA MESA SHOWS ITS LACK OF FRUGALITY
Wants to spend $1.7 million on beautifying a rarely used bike trail.

Say, why not put down some rubberized asphalt?

The only stimulus this provides to our economy is to the wallets of out of town contractors and city staff who will make busy work for themselves in supervising this. Don't expect to see your out of work neighbors out there with shovels on this shovel ready project.

If the City Council were serious about improving the City, they'd use this money to buy up and raze some slum buildings near the bike trail. Crime would drop as a result and the few bicyclists who use the trail would be safer.

Most residents of Costa Mesa probably don't even know where this bike trail is located.

If you want to see it, just drive south on Harbor near Fair. As you get to the end of the golf course, which will be on your right, you'll see what looks like an alley at the end of the chain link fence. That's the bike trail in question.

POLICE CHECKPOINT THIS FRIDAY ON HARBOR/FAIR (At vacant Hyundai dealership, not far from the soon to be gilded bike trail in the story above.)

The Costa Mesa Police Department will be conducting a sobriety / driver license checkpoint on Friday evening, May 22, 2009, from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The checkpoint will be located northbound Harbor Boulevard at Fair Drive.

To avoid claims of profiling or discrimination, these checkpoints are usually conducted so that every___(fill in the number) car is pulled over for a closer look. It will often be every tenth or twentieth car (depending on traffic volume).
