O'KEEFE STINGS HUD
Link

Yup, that's the guy who played a pimp in the ACORN stings. This time he has HUD personnel on the record.

HUD? Right. It's HUD that gives the Costa Mesa City Council money that the Council then gives to some non-profits that only seem to serve one race/ethnicity and which may serve illegal aliens to the detriment of citizens.

Here's the thing about these HUD funds that come to the Costa Mesa City Council. The Council is the gatekeeper and the watcher of the hen house. Why isn't the Council doing its job instead of giving our money to non-profits that don't look like Costa Mesa?

The HUD money that comes in each year as a CDBG grant has to be used in lower income parts of our city.

The Council also has the option of giving 15% of that money to non-profits. But, it's just an option. The Council does not have to give this 15% to non-profits. The Council could stop the misuse of our money and use that 15% for putting in green areas, etc. in our impacted neighborhoods instead of letting the non-profits have that money to feather their nests.

OVER IN GREAT BRITAIN WHERE THE PEOPLE AREN'T FREE

If you think the U.S. has problems with immigration, crime and a devolution to Third World status you should see the situation in Great Britain.

In Great Britain, the British National Party (BNP), a foe of immigration, has been forced to change its constitution and to admit people to the party who are opposed to the party.

The government can get away with this in Great Britain because Great Britain doesn't have a written constitution as do most other countries, and it most certainly doesn't have a Bill of Rights as we have in the U.S. The Brits thus have no First Amendment, and they have no right to free association.

The latest chapter in the tyranny against the BNP happened today in court in Great Britain. A lone judge told the party that unless it made further changes to its constitution (yup, the nation doesn't have a written constitution but the BNP does), that it couldn't admit new members.

Imagine a judge in the U.S. telling political parties what they can believe and who they can admit or not admit?

Anyway, the lefty bigots in Great Britain immediately started celebrating that the BNP had lost. The reason for their glee was obvious. Great Britain is in an election season and the BNP is expected to win many local seats in cities all across the country and maybe its first seat in Parliment. If the party were now hobbled by this court decision at this critical time, it might not win anything at all--which is what the lefty bigots want.

Well, not so fast. The bigots were out flanked by the BNP (again). You see, at an earlier party meeting, the membership had given the leader of the party, Nick Griffin, the right to make necessary changes to the party constitution without having to convene another meeting. And, after the court ruling today, Griffin did just that and immediately opened up the party to new members.

Here's a link to Griffin's statement. You may have to read it twice to get it. The flanking move is contained in the authority he has under Section 4.

COSTA MESA CITY COUNCIL AGENDA FOR TUESDAY
Link

The most important item on the agenda, in our view, is Item 9 of the consent calendar: 2009 Annual Review of Costa Mesa's General Plan. We think that the Council should go through this plan and: 1)add items to thin out our slum buildings, 2) add goals to balance our residential ownership vs. rental figures, 3) add goals to balance our homes vs. industrial figures. All three of these areas are unbalanced and they're harming Costa Mesa.

Of course, since this item is on the consent calendar, the Council won't even look at this plan unless someone on the Council or in the audience removes the item for discussion, and even if that happens the plan is so long that it is unlikely anything will be changed during the meeting.

So, if the Council is of a mind to perk up this report to better improve Costa Mesa, the item will have to be continued to another meeting. Don't hold your breath on this, though.

MORE ON THE HOUSING BUBBLE
Link

SIMPLE EXPLANATION OF THE HOUSING BUBBLE: We remember when it all started.

The government, seeing the value of homes rising each and every year, and (mostly White) home buyers making lots of money on paper as a result, felt it was unfair because minorities weren't getting in on the deal.

So, figuring that home values would continue to rise, the government started telling everyone in the real estate industry to sell homes to people who didn't have the income to buy homes.

Overnight, people with virtually no incomes were buying homes. The unspoken thought was that the appreciation of these homes would allow these unqualified home buyers to either refinance their homes or sell for a profit after a year or two and have enough money to buy a less expensive home that they might be able to afford.

Here's the government's idea in simplest terms: Let a minority buy a $400,000 home with no down payment. Let them make mortgage payments by filling the home with as many people as possible who would all chip in. Then, given the level of appreciation, the home would go up in value to, say, $475,000 in a year or so. The minority could then sell that home and pocket $75,000 to use as a down payment on another less expensive home.

Now, the scheme might have worked had it been limited to a few areas around the country. Instead, it was done nationwide. And, as with all pyramid schemes--and that's what this was--it began falling under its own weight because it became so successful. There were simply too many home mortgages in the country that weren't being paid, and this led to too many homes being sold that people couldn't afford to buy after credit got tighter.

You see, the irony is that the more successful the government was in putting unqualified people into their own homes, the more the government doomed these people to falling into financial ruin and even homelessness.

CALIFORNIA STATE DEFICIT UP $10 BILLION SINCE JANUARY
Link

So, will the Costa Mesa City Council learn anything from the above linked article and stop spending like drunken sailors? Don't count on it. As we reported earlier, staff has given the Council what the CM PRESS considers to be a too rosy prediction of expected Costa Mesa revenues over the next few months.

This means that the Council will keep spending money that they don't and won't have, unless Council, right now, tells staff to come back with more realistic predictions of expected revenue.

If the Council accepts the rosy projections that they have in front of them right now, and doesn't cut back right now on spending, we expect that in a few months the Council will be asked by staff to raise taxes, fees and you name it, and the Council will then try to justify this by saying: "Golly our best projections from staff were off and the economy is worse than expected so we'll have to raise more revenue to give residents the services that they demand." Folks, it's just political shuck and jive.

What the Costa Mesa City Council members usually do is smile and scratch their butts and mumble some brainless nonsense such as: "Well, we have a report from staff, so that's what we're going to do."

In fact, they also do a variation of this when they give our money to non-profits that help illegal aliens and which don't look anything like Costa Mesa. They say: "Well, we have a report from the 3R Committee, so that's what we're going to do."

Folks, I served on the 3R Committee and I'll tell you again the Committee is not acting like a junkyard dog in protecting your money or in helping Costa Mesa improve. It has too many people on the Committee with non-profit and lefty connections.

The City Council members are not supposed to be lazy rubber stamps for whatever is put in front of them. They're supposed to have brains and be able to do a little critical thinking.

Remember when Karen Robinson was on the Council? She was the only one who would often say that she needed more information before voting on an issue. Folks, that's what all Council members should be doing. If they don't have enough information or if something just doesn't make sense, they need to stop and get more information.

Pork barrels and porkers aren't just in D.C. Costa Mesa needs to eliminate pork right in our own city.

DE NIRO SET TO PLAY VINCE LOMBARDI IN NEW MOVIE
Link

Good casting. De Niro is perfect for the role.

Dear reader, if you should run into Robert De Niro, ask him if he knows anything about my clock. I'm not accusing, you understand. Just wondering. Hey, it's okay, I don't need it anymore.

Trivia alert for new readers: Robert De Niro and I did a play together in NYC, and during the play someone broke down my seventh floor walk-up apartment door and stole my really, really cheap clock, but left my $20 bill untouched that was right next to it. And, twenty bucks then was more like fifty or even a hundred bucks today.

Now, I ask you, dear reader, who would do something like that? Not a junkie, surely. They go for the bucks. Not a cuckoo-and-angry-mad girl friend. They do things like plant unmentionables where a guy won't notice them but where a new girlfriend will find them; like in the cushions of a ratty brown couch you found on the street and hauled on your back up seven flights of stairs to your apartment and which left gashes in your back for about six months. Ah, I'm just sayin'.

Anyway, who would be cuckoo-mad enough to walk up seven flights of stairs and be strong enough to break down a door with several locks, including the burglar's bane--a police lock--brave all the cockroaches in my apartment and then only take a cheap battery operated clock from my bed stand and not take my twenty bucks?

My eyes narrow to slits.

I deduce. Why, a method actor of course! Yes, Watson, er, dear friends, New York is swarming with cuckoo-mad method actors all looking to pick up bits and pieces of real life to inspire them in their work.

You'll see these cuckoo-mad method actors coming out of Stella Adler's Acting School (both De Niro and I went there at the same time) and watching people on the street and occasionally making character notes in little notebooks for future reference and sometimes trying to get some physical object to represent the character: "Homeless man. Early 40's. Brown coat. Long grey matted hair. Beard. Limp. Skinny. Stooped over. Holes in shoes. One eye half closed. Missing front tooth. Baggy pants with rope for belt. Smiles while asking for money. Constantly tugs on beard with left hand. Lisps because of missing tooth. Darting eyes. Looks hyper. Too much sugar? Caffeine? Drugs? Gave him a buck for one of his gloves."

But, a cheap clock? Well, why not? De Niro moved in with Jake LaMotta when he did Raging Bull and wore the same type of underwear, etc. as LaMotta to get the feel of the character, and after our play together, De Niro did the movie Taxi Driver featuring an ex-Marine who dressed the way I did in NYC and who was similar to one of the characters I did in the play.

And, remember, I am an ex-Marine and De Niro was never in any military service. So, what went into his book of character notes? Where would he find the inspiration to play an alienated ex-Marine in NYC who was marginally, even accidentally or fatefully, interested in politics (at that time I was also one of the first members of a very early libertarian group called the Society for Individual Liberty).

Anyway, Bobby, give me a call. I'm still in SAG and I'm in between roles right now. I'd be great in a movie about Vince Lombardi because, ah, I saw a football game on TV once. And, I promise to not try to upstage you like last time.

IS COSTA MESA PAINTING TOO ROSY A PICTURE ON FINANCES?

At today's City Council Study Session, staff will present an update to the City Council on expected revenues. We think the update may be too rosy.

Here's why:

According to staff's own report, sales tax revenue at mid-year is down 7.1% compared to the same 6 month period last fiscal year. So, does staff use that 7.1% figure to conservatively estimate what the revenues will be at the end of this fiscal year?

Nope. Instead, it uses a figure of 5%.

Also according to staff's own report the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) is down 15.9% compared to the 6 month period in last fiscal year. So, does staff use the 15.9% figure to conservatively estimate what the revenues from the TOT will be at the end of the fiscal year?

Nope. Instead, it uses a figure of 10%.

Okay, so why does it matter if these projections are accurate or not?

It matters because with projections that are too rosy, the City Council will continue spending our money like drunken sailors and put us into an even deeper financial hole in the coming months.

It would be better to assume the worst (and this really isn't the worst, but it is prudent) and accept the 7.1% figure as the way it's going to be for sales tax revenue. Actually, we think it'll be worse, but 7.1% is at least realistic.

And, on the TOT, one has to understand that Costa Mesa is not a destination location. We don't have the ocean and we don't have Disneyland. The CM PRESS expects to see our hotel business drop over the next months, not increase. If we're right, then we should be using the 15.9% figure and keeping our fingers crossed that it won't be much higher than that. We should not be using a figure of 10%.

Also, remember that in the last six months we had a bump in our TOT as a result of the University of Alabama's football team, staff and fans filling up our local hotels. This means that the TOT from that period was actually higher than we might expect and this skewed the number upward that staff is using in its projections.

If the City Council takes a common sense conservative approach, as we suggest, it'll ask staff for more realistic projections and begin the difficult but necessary job of cutting fat out of the budget right now, a little at a time, instead of waiting for the bad news in a few months.

By cutting back now, the pain to all concerned will be less.

But, what if the CM PRESS is wrong and things really are as rosy as staff believes? Well, it'll just mean that the City will be in an even stronger financial position. In other words, there is very little downside in taking the more conservative approach that we suggest.

If, however, we are right, and the City Council foolishly accepts what we think are rosy figures, in 3 to 6 months, staff will come back to the Council and ask to raise fees, etc. because "Golly, the economy was worse than we projected."

One last thing to remember. Costa Mesa is more dependent on revenues from our commercial (mostly retail) sector than many other cities. In other cities, Fountain Valley for example, much of the City's revenue is based on residential properties.

This means that when the economy is booming and people are spending money in our shopping centers in Costa Mesa, and buying new cars here, the City becomes flush with cash. But, when people cut back on their personal discretionary spending, the City takes in less money.

And, dear readers, all indications are that people will cut back even more on their personal discretionary spending over the next few months in Costa Mesa.

It looks to us as though average citizens are becoming more frugal and aren't spending much on unneeded luxury items. Now, the City of Costa Mesa should follow suit and also become more frugal.

Greg Ridge, (a Flopsy Foley supporter) who posts at the almost daily Daily Pilot as "gericault," has replied to the CM PRESS (see comments below CM PRESS # 64 for his full comment and our reply).

When Ridge's long comment is boiled down to its essence, we find that Ridge is telling us that we shouldn't compare Newport Beach schools to Costa Mesa schools to determine the quality of the schools.

Instead, again according to Ridge, we should compare race/ethnicity of the students in Newport Beach schools to race/ethnicity of the students in Costa Mesa schools.

And, the result? Why, Whites in Costa Mesa schools score about the same as Whites in Newport Beach schools.

So, race/ethnicity matters? Race/ethnicity is more than skin deep?

MORE LIB MISINFORMATION ON COSTA MESA SCHOOLS & FOLEY'S CRIME PREVENTION LASAGNA

In CM PRESS # 64, we refuted some comments in a post from a Costa Mesa resident named Greg Ridge (a Flopsy Foley supporter from all reports) who often posts on the almost daily Daily Pilot site under the name "gericault."

As is usual with libs, Ridge just seems to write things with no facts behind them.

At any rate, immediately below is an excerpt from Ridge's screwy post. And, right below the excerpt are the facts from the NMUSD website that tell the truth and prove that Ridge doesn't know what he's talking about. For your convenience, we've put his full post further down and here's the link to the almost daily Daily Pilot so you can see his post with the column about Flopsy Foley.

RIDGE WROTE: "Both my children attended Victoria elementary.... This highly awarded...school can go head to head with anything Newport has to offer."

Really? It "can go head to head with anything Newport has to offer"? Sorry, that's not even close. In fact, when we checked all the elementary schools in Newport, we couldn't find a single one that scored as low as Victoria.

But, check for yourself at the NMUSD link. Maybe we missed one. What we actually see on the NMUSD website is that the schools in Newport Beach that are closest to Costa Mesa have lower scores than those in Newport that are further away. This is because the ones closest to Costa Mesa have many Costa Mesa students in them. But, even those that are closest to Costa Mesa still have higher scores than Victoria.

Here are the 2008-09 scores from Victoria from the NMUSD website:
English Language Arts: 71% of students scored proficient or advanced.

Mathematics: 73% of students scored proficient or advanced.

Science: 78% of students scored proficient or advanced.
----------------------------------
Compare that with Andersen school in Newport Beach:
English Language Arts: 90% of students scored proficient or advanced.

Mathematics: 86% of the students scored proficient or advanced.

Science: 85% of students scored proficient or advanced.
----------------------------------
As mentioned above, here's Ridge's full comment from the almost daily Daily Pilot:

--------------------------
THE CM PRESS POINT: We want to see Costa Mesa improved. To be improved, we have to honestly look at the conditions in this city. This means we have to rely on hard facts, not PC gushy liberal emotions that aren't backed up with facts.

We don't want to knock the schools or students in Costa Mesa, but we don't want to pretend something that isn't true. To fix a problem, you have to know you have a problem. Costa Mesa does, indeed, have a problem. Pretending otherwise doesn't fix the problem.

And, the schools are only part of the deeper problem.
How do libs handle our problems besides singing kumbaya and burying their heads in the sand? Well, when there was a gang murder in Costa Mesa a couple of years ago, Councilwoman Foley gave a good example of the lib approach. She delivered lasagna to the grieving family.

The CM PRESS has a different approach. We don't think there should be any grieving families in Costa Mesa. Not one. We think the crimes should be headed off before they happen by having the Costa Mesa City Council face reality and do the things that will rid this city of the crime and gangs.

We don't need phony politicians baking lasagna after someone is shot to death. And,we don't need people claiming all is well and that the schools are great, when things aren't all well and the schools aren't that great.

But remember, it is not the NMUSD, the teachers or the schools that are the problem. It is a city problem. When you turn a city into a slum city, you have slum problems.

To improve the city and the schools you need to thin out the slums. There is no other way.

Costa Mesa is out of balance. We have too many slum apartments and they're breeding grounds for crime and social dysfunction as well as being safe havens for gangs.

ABOUT THE SCHOOLS IN COSTA MESA AS A REFLECTION OF THE QUALITY OF THE COMMUNITY
At Tuesday's City Council meeting, one of the points that the CM PRESS made was that because of actions or non-actions of the Costa Mesa City Council, Costa Mesa is trending more like Santa Ana than Newport Beach.

This trend is troubling for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that Newport Beach and Costa Mesa have traditionally been joined at the hip for many years and even have just one school district for the two cities.

And, it is the schools in the district that give us some objective data on just how far Costa Mesa is falling away from Newport Beach.

It is objective data that intelligent people look for when making decisions, because objective data is not emotional and is not biased. Numbers are numbers and they paint a picture of the health of schools and a city. These numbers--the statistics--are the equivalent of having your vital signs taken if you go to a hospital.

However, lefties often try to ignore the facts and ask you to ignore them. They prefer to substitute emotional nonsense for reality.

In the comments following the almost daily Daily Pilot's article about Councilperson Katrina Foley's childish outburst at Tuesday's City Council meeting (LINK)we find such emotional, fact devoid, comments such as this one below:

gericault wrote on Mar 4, 2010 10:41 PM: *

" Well spoken stevemesinger, Estancia is the best biggest lttle high school around. My daughter is straight A's and thriving. The campus is great and the new improvements first class. My son attends Tewinkle Middle, and the improvements under Dr. Bauermiester have been amazing. This highly awarded top notch All American, California Distinguished school can go head to head with anything Newport has to offer.I'm sick of these "improvers' telling us how awful everything is. I'm there everyday and have been for almost ten years.Katrina has been too. "

So, is gericault correct? What's the truth about our schools? Well, here are some facts (2008-09 school year) from the NMUSD website:

------------------------------------------------

Estancia High School is 25.19% White

English-Language Arts: 41% of students are proficient or advanced

Mathematics: 20% of students are proficient or advanced

Science: 43% of students are proficient or advanced

History-Social Science: 37% of students are proficient or advanced

---------------------------------------------------------

Corona del Mar High School is 85.37% White

English-Language Arts: 80% of students are proficient or advanced

Mathematics: 49% of students are proficient or advanced

Science: 69% of students are proficient or advanced

History-Social Science: 60% of students are proficient or advanced

-----------------------------------------------------------

Other lefties will say that the above comparison isn't fair because Corona del Mar is a wealthier community than Costa Mesa. Well, yes, Corona del Mar may be wealthier. But, remember, both high schools are in the same district. Both have the same or very similar physical facilities. They have the same or similar teachers. They both spend about the same amount of money on students.

You see, "wealth," per se, has no direct correlation to student scores.

The question is this: Suppose you are an upwardly mobile parent and you want the best for your kids. Which of the above schools would you prefer to have your kids attend? And, which community--Costa Mesa or Corona del Mar--just based on the above statistics, would you expect to have a higher standard of living, less crime, fewer gangs, less graffiti, fewer charities, fewer homeless people, fewer slums? Hmmmm.

Now, upon reading the immediately preceding paragraph, many lefties will start making other excuses about why the two schools are so different and why, and this is our real point--the two cities are so different. You see, that's what lefties do. They bury their heads in the sand while singing kumbaya.

They refuse to take personal responsibility for the way things are. They prefer to mouth meaningless cliches such as Foley saying that she loves living in Costa Mesa because it's so "diverse," instead of seeing and understanding the reality and instead of trying to improve things.

HERE'S OUR SALIENT POINT: Costa Mesa should be more like Newport Beach than Santa Ana, and it's up to the City Council to make it so.

The almost daily Daily Pilot is carrying a story about Flopsy Foley's hissy fit at the last City Council meeting.

If Foley doesn't like hearing the truth about this city week after week, she can resign from the City Council. That would be a big improvement for Costa Mesa right there.

Frankly, we're not going to quietly take the polyannish BS from know-nothings such as Foley anymore.

We're fed up with the crime, the failing schools, the slums, the other problems that are making Costa Mesa more like Santa Ana than Newport Beach and we're fed up with having bag of wind politicians side step the problems and focus on sweet nothings.

To fix a problem you have to admit you have a problem, and Foley wants to deny we have any problems.

DEMAND THAT CONGRESS HAVE THE SAME LAWS AND RULES FOR ITS MEMBERS AS FOR ORDINARY CITIZENS

(The CM PRESS received the following via email this morning)

WE NEED A 28th AMENDMENT

For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress.

Many citizens had no idea that members of Congress could retire with the same pay after only one term, that they didn't pay into Social Security, that they specifically exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed (such as being exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment) while ordinary citizens must live under those laws.

The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform that is being considered....in all of its forms. Somehow, that doesn't seem logical. We do not have an elite that is above the law.

I truly don't care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop. This is a good way to do that. It is an idea whose time has come.

Have each person on your email list contact a minimum of twenty people on their email list with this and in turn ask each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one proposal that really should be passed around.

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution:

"Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States".

It appears that more and more indigenous Europeans are rejecting phony left-wing multi-culti diversity and asking themselves: How are my family and I better off with multi-culturalism and the great god Diversity?

And, many people can find few or no benefits at all. What they do find is over crowding, higher crime rates, being told that they must move to the back of the bus, social dysfunction and many other problems that are not of their making.

Say, Geert, that's the same flat-world crap that the screwball lefties in the U.S. (including in Costa Mesa) believe.

OBAMA'S BRIDGE LOANS TO NOWHERE

We've used the term "bridge loan" before to describe Obama's various stimulus plans.

The other day, someone asked us to explain.

So, here it is: A bridge loan is a short-term loan intended to provide financing until a more permanent arrangement is made.

A bridge loan is the sort of thing that a bank will give to a farmer who must buy seeds and plant a crop today, but who will only be able to pay it back several months later when the crops are grown, harvested and sent to market. The bank, in making the loan, can see across the time gap to the crop being sold and knows that there's a high probability that the bank will be repaid.

In the case of Obama, and his so-called stimulus plans, what he's doing is similar. He's trying to bridge a gap in our bad economy with the idea that on the other side of the gap is a better economy that will repay the "bridge loan."

The problem, as we see it, is that there is no real "better economy" on the other side, because the U.S. has been deindustrialized and we don't make anything here anymore. In other words, on the other side of the bridge, it'll be the same as on this side.

Without making things, the economy is just built on us acting as middlemen between producers (China, for example) and consumers.

So, we sit here producing nothing and simply add our percentages to the products that go to consumers. It's just a house of cards and a pyramid scheme that is destined to fall, and fall very hard.

ALL OF COSTA MESA IS NOW IN A SLUM CITY CATEGORY ALONG WITH SANTA ANA

Below this link is part of a column over at the OC RED COUNTY BLOG:

"The Santa Ana City Council recently chose to declare the entire city an Economic Recovery Zone so as to qualify for $8,807,000 worth of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act monies. Whats a Recovery Zone you ask? It's an area with significant poverty, unemployment, rate of home foreclosures and/or general distress."

In case you missed it, fellow Costa Mesans, your Costa Mesa City Council did exactly the same thing to Costa Mesa that the Santa Ana City Council did to that city and put our entire city in a Recovery Zone.

In effect, Santa Ana and Costa Mesa both put up ersatz signs on both cities that intelligent people can read this way:

THIS IS A SLUM CITY. YOU DON'T WANT TO LIVE HERE. YOU DON'T WANT TO STAY HERE. YOU DON'T WANT TO DO BUSINESS HERE. YOU DON'T WANT TO SHOP HERE. YOU DON'T WANT TO BE HERE AT NIGHT. THIS CITY IS FULL OF GANGS. IT IS FULL OF ILLEGAL ALIENS. IT IS FULL OF SLUMS. IT IS FULL OF CHARITIES. IT HAS SCHOOLS THAT ARE FAILING. IT HAS A FLEEING MIDDLE CLASS. STAY AWAY, UPWARDLY MOBILE PEOPLE. THIS IS A NEW COMPTON ABORNING.

Only Mayor Mansoor and Councilmember Bever voted against the above slum designation for Costa Mesa, but they were outvoted because both Monahan and Leece fell right in behind Flopsy Foley and put the slum designation on our city.

CITY TO PUT RULE ON HOLD
Link to Daily Pilot article about the City deciding to not enforce rule against those soliciting work on our streets.

THE CM PRESS OPINION: It's important for any laws that may impact the First Amendment to be carefully crafted and enforced. In the present case, the City of Costa Mesa has agreed to wait for the outcome of a similar case to see if our law and the way it's enforced pass constitutional muster.

However, instead of just waiting, we think that the City should be researching similar laws in other jurisdictions to see which ones do pass muster, and then the City should revise our present law.

FLOPSY FOLEY FLOPS AGAIN

At last night's City Council meeting, the CM PRESS again told the Council that they're spending money like drunken sailors and that they're giving our money to some non-profits that help suspected illegal aliens.

We also pointed out that Newport Beach was recently named as the "top wealth center among U.S. cities." Yet, Costa Mesa, right next door, and sharing the same school district, and with a long history of being Newport's sister city, was more like a slum city.

It's sort of like Newport Beach is the pretty sister and Costa Mesa is the ugly sister. Uh, you get the picture.

We asked the Council why they thought this was the case and how it is that the two cities are so close yet so different. We then answered our own question. It's because this and previous Councils have screwed up priorities and they've turned Costa Mesa into a slum city.

Flopsy didn't like our comments and decided to clumsily undertake a little pas de deux.

In doing so, she mumbled the lefty cliche (which in this case was also a non sequitur) that she liked Costa Mesa because of its "diversity."

You see the problem? We hadn't used the word "diversity." It was something from her subconscious that popped out of her pie hole. But, this was to be expected.

Flopsy, lest you forget, was the only Councilmember who refused to sign a letter to then President Bush asking him to protect our borders. At the time, she said she would write her own letter. As far as we know, she never has. Now, boys and girls, don't we have a name for a person who says she's going to do something and then doesn't do it?

At any rate, Flopsy didn't explain how diversity has helped her or her family. You see, that's what lefties do, they state some meaningless twaddle but have nothing to back it up.

So, what has diversity done for Costa Mesa, Ms. Foley? We'll tell you:

*Many of our schools are now officially failing schools. This means that parents have the legal right to immediately pull their kids out of these schools and put them in schools in Newport Beach (Newport Beach is, horrors, not very diverse).

*Costa Mesa has a high crime rate.

*Costa Mesa has slums.

*Costa Mesa has home values that are lower than they should be.

*Costa Mesa has thousands of illegal aliens living here who mooch off the system.

*Costa Mesa has non-profits up the wazoo that are funded by the City Council and which act as magnets and sanctuaries for illegal aliens. Some of these non-profits only serve Hispanics. No non-Hispanics need apply, apparently.

The above items do not describe a city on an upward spiral. They describe a city that needs to be improved.

OKAY, BUT WHEN THE CM PRESS SAYS IT LIKES COSTA MESA (AND WE HAVE SAID THAT), WHAT DO WE MEAN?

--We like the geography. We're close to the ocean but out of the beach crowds and traffic.

--We like being close to the freeways.

--We like the general way the city is laid out in something of a cohesive square rather than being strung out along a long major street such as Beach Blvd.

--We like the cool breezes in the summer.

--We like the slightly funky feel of the city and the unmanicured naturalness.

Because we like Costa Mesa (as defined above) we want to see it improved. We want to see better schools, lower crime, higher home values and a better quality of life for citizens. That's why we stay here and that's why we attend city meetings and try to help get things going in the right direction.

ANOTHER PHONY HATE CRIME EXPOSED
Link
Minority female student admits putting up noose at UCSD.

CM PRESS COMMENT: We told you about this incident several issues ago and we also told you that it sounded like a phony incident.

What we didn't mention then is that in many of these phony hate crime incidents the perp is often a minority female and her actions (when the surface is scratched) often seem to be wrapped up in psycho/sexual problems.

This minority female angle isn't new. The first such incident of this that we are aware of in this country started the Salem Witch Trials in which Tituba, a minority female, started the hysteria that later led to the killing of innocent people as witches.

Then there was the Duke University incident. And, don't forget Tawana Brawley. Remember the incident in Riverside a couple of years ago with a minority female professor who wrote hate slogans on her car and claimed "racists" had targeted her? And, who can forget the case of the minority female in the Midwest who claimed that white racists held her down and carved swastikas on her stomach? All of these phonies, and many more, were exposed.

More recently, approximately 400 FLDS kids were taken from their parents after a Black woman called the authorities and claimed that she was a young FLDS White girl who was being held captive.

There's a book in all this. Maybe we'll write it.

ORANGE SUES COUPLE WHO REMOVED GRASS LAWN IN THEIR FRONT YARD
Link

CM PRESS OPINION: Grass lawns in our semi-arid area are not natural. Grass only looks good with constant life-support from humans. It would be far better if we had our properties landscaped with plants that naturally grow here.

This is something that the CM PRESS has been in favor of ever since we came to California years ago.

Here in Costa Mesa, our dimwitted politicians are spending millions of our dollars in "restoring" Fairview Park to its "natural or native condition."

This means they're pulling out plants that are naturally growing there with no human help and putting in plants that require that the city pay a full time professional arborist and staff to try to keep the new "natural and native" plants alive.

Look, this isn't complicated. An important aspect of an environment is time and change. The plants that Costa Mesa says are natural and native, are no longer natural and native. This is shown by the fact that they're not now here and that they can't grow here without expensive and constant human intervention

Maybe after the city puts in all the plants that can't grow here naturally anymore, we should rename Fairview Park and call it Frankenpark.

PHONY FORCED DIVERSITY DYING
Link

People just like being around others like themselves. Rudyard Kipling got it right in the 1800's when he wrote The Stranger:

The Stranger within my gate,
He may be true or kind,
But he does not talk my talk--
I cannot feel his mind.
I see the face and the eyes and the mouth,
But not the soul behind.

The men of my own stock,
They may do ill or well,
But they tell the lies I am wanted to,
They are used to the lies I tell;
And we do not need interpreters
When we go to buy or sell.

The Stranger within my gates,
He may be evil or good,
But I cannot tell what powers control--
What reasons sway his mood;
Nor when the Gods of his far-off land
Shall repossess his blood.

The men of my own stock,
Bitter bad they may be,
But, at least, they hear the things I hear,
And see the things I see;
And whatever I think of them and their likes
They think of the likes of me.

This was my father's belief
And this is also mine:
Let the corn be all one sheaf--
And the grapes be all one vine,
Ere our children's teeth are set on edge
By bitter bread and wine.

POLAR BEAR IS A NEW SPECIES

When the environment changes, species either adapt or they die off. It appears that the polar bear started as a brown bear and diverged until it became a new species capable of making a living in cold and snowy conditions.

A similar thing happened with White humans who adapted from darker humans to make a living in the less sunny regions of the Earth that are found in Europe.
