CM PRESS # 310

DEEP THROAT IN COSTA MESA'S CITY HALL?

Some folks in Costa Mesa are wondering who, if anyone, in City Hall may be calling this guy with breaking news scoops about personnel matters (that are usually kept low key, especially in the early and investigatory stages) and other goings on in city government?  And, if there is an insider, is this person breaking any rules or policies? [UPDATE: We're told there is a policy about this.]

You may have seen THIS news story in the Daily Pilot, which also appeared in the OC Register, about two Costa Mesa city hall employees suddenly being put on leave.  It seems this blogger on your left had the story very fast. In fact, he had it before the newspapers who have salaried reporters on the Costa Mesa beat.

After this blogger broke the news, both the Pilot and the Register then ran similar stories  and both indicated that this blogger was the first to report the news, and they both had links to his blog.

Some believe that the bigger story here is not about the two employees put on leave, but how this blogger is getting information before the major news organizations and before City Hall makes an official announcement.

And what about the mention of this guy and his blog in the Pilot and the Register? What usually happens is that when a blogger or news source gets a scoop, he or she will send out a quick email to larger news organizations  that often starts off something like this:  "EXCLUSIVE--IF THIS STORY IS USED, YOU MUST CREDIT ME AND MY BLOG BY NAME AND PROVIDE A LINK TO MY BLOG."

The question remains:  Who in City Hall, if anyone, is feeding this guy information seemingly almost as soon as it happens?

  1. Who Cares? Are you jealous because no one gives you any first hand information? News is news and the public has a right to know as soon as possible. Remember transparency? Do you only support it if it benefits you? What a tool you are.

  2. Thanks for reading the CM PRESS.

  3. Martin,
Thanks for the props... appreciate the publicity. As you've said many times when you hawk your books, any publicity is good publicity. ;-) We work hard at providing valuable information to the readers of A BUBBLING CAULDRON and try to get the facts right. As is the case with your blog, we salt the facts with opinion. Thanks, also for using that two-year-old photo. It will help folks recognize me so they can share information in the future. Much appreciated. I know you're "photographically challenged", so I'd be happy to provide you with a more current photo, if you like.

About the story in question.. sometimes things just drop in your lap, as was the case with this one. That happens when you have friends. Took most of the day to finally get confirmation of facts. I make NO demand for attribution on the things published on my blog - the Pilot and Register were kind enough to acknowledge that my coverage was out there first. Unless they quote A BUBBLING CAULDRON specifically without attribution I have no problem if they don't mention it. I'm not in this for the ego rush. If that was my goal I would have accepted one of the dozen offers to write a column for local newspapers presented to me over the past few years. It's not, so I politely declined. And, rest assured, no rules, laws, ordinances or policies were broken to provide that information. Nice try, though.

So, again, thank you for the publicity. It must be nice for your few readers to have something to read in addition to your black on white crime rants and marginally informative essays on DNA. I'm always happy to help you with your content. I suspect your page views will spike today. ;-)

  4. Thank you for reading the CM PRESS! We'll try to use smaller words for your convenience! We have quite a few lefties reading the CM PRESS, so you're not alone!

We hardly ever look at your site! Our impression is that it's mostly just the usual strung together, very pedestrian, lefty cliches and chicken little stuff, but we did take a look today in connection with our above story and we noticed that you've abandoned your old format and seem to have copied the one we were using for several years! However, as you know from your frequent visits to our site, we have changed our format again, so you may want to copy our new format!

Do tell, exactly how did that information drop into your lap?! And, exactly who is your "friend" who was so kind to give you that personnel information so fast?! What is your friend's name?! Were you contacted via phone or email?! You've had other news from city hall drop into your lap previously, haven't you?! From the same "friend"?!

We noticed you wrote this in a comment in the Daily Pilot about your scoop: "Because the department they ran was responsible for disbursement of large amounts of city funds the taxpayers deserve to know what happened - and soon!" Exactly what do you mean by that sentence?!

Oh, and thanks for noticing that we publish stories about crime against White people--because of the color of their skin--that lefties refuse to publish or which they try to minimize! Be assured that we'll keep up the good work and maybe even cause some brain dead lefties to be a little more careful and a little more aware of their surroundings!

As we often say: Violent crime is not an equal opportunity employer! Know it and you'll be safer!

You'll also note that we've punctuated this message after your fashion for your ease in reading it!

  5. Well, Martin, I have no interest in copying your new format, now that you finally got it right. I kind of liked the pastoral scene you apparently accidentally used as an interim step. Don't worry, even smart guys like you keep telling us you are have problems with technology - as witnessed by your inability to understand why it was important to buy all new computers Tuesday night. At least you finally got those numbers right, or close, anyhow.

Now, about your "scoop envy"... the chances that you will ever know how I got the information are.... ZERO!

Please feel free to return to your regularly scheduled program, pandering to the real haters (your word) in this world. I'm sure both of your regular readers will appreciate you spreading your wealth of knowledge and racism on down the food chain to those you feel are inferior to yourself - I guess that includes all of us, huh?

Thanks, again, for publicizing my blog and the story we broke yesterday. I know you must feel bad, since you once portrayed a reporter - for 19 seconds - in one of the worst movies ever made back in the mid 1970s. We do appreciate your support and are happy to include you among our many readers.

Time for you to go mow your yard - don't want that Planning Commissioner to turn you in to Code Enforcement again...

  6. Now, Grasshopper, my guess is that your leaker is already known.

Scoop envy? Nope. Just a respect for the rights of city employees and a desire to not subject them to rumor and innuendo.

As to my movies, thanks for being a fan boy. The film you mention was one I did with Richard Dreyfuss and Sondra Locke (Clint Eastwood's girlfriend at the time)and some others who are now well known. It was directed by Gene Barry's (he of TV's Bat Masterson fame) son and was based on Leonard Cohen's song Suzanne. Naturally, I played my part brilliantly. I didn't study method acting for nothing. Nineteen seconds?--maybe. Several hours on the cutting room floor, though. And, I had to beat out a couple of hundred other professional SAG actors to get that role for those nineteen seconds. That's also the way it was when I did plays with Robert De Niro and films with Woody Allen and others. It's a very competitive business.

Now, as to the computers. Given Moore's Law (or any variants of it), it makes no sense to throw out all the computers and replace them all at once, because--pay attention, now Grasshopper--that means in a few years all your computers will be obsolete at the same time and you'll have to throw them all out again. It makes better sense to do a rolling replacement. You can replace a third or a fourth at a time, and this way you'll be bringing in new computers for the most intense users. The fastest and most powerful computers are not needed for most functions. Why, look at you as an example, you might as well be using a crayon.

  7. Martin, I'm not going to argue about your acting skills. I spent $1.27 for a VCR of that movie just see and, having done so, I understand why you no longer pretend to be an actor. Don't feel bad, though... every element of that movie was terrible - acting, writing, directing, cinematography, casting - you name it.

About the computers... You and the three male council members share at least one thing - a stubborn unwillingness to actually understand what's going on at City Hall computer-wise. Those of us who actually stick around for the completion of the meetings understand that during the recent budget discussions the council approved millions in IT infrastructure improvements, including an entirely new internet backbone throughout the whole City government system.

Those improvements, coupled with the fact that most of the city computers are old - many a decade old and the bulk of the rest at least 5 years and several generations of operating system old, demand that new desktop equipment be installed to maximize the new backbone and to provide efficient operations. But then, you already did a Public Records Request, so you know exactly the ages of the equipment. Yes, Moore's law addresses the rapid obsolescence of computer chips, but it's not relevant to our current circumstances. It would be virtually impossible to successfully complete the new infrastructure installation using our old equipment, especially considering the incompatibility issues with the software. Funny, I thought a guy who claims to be a Mensa member would grasp that. Guess not.

Again, I want to thank you - and the Pilot and Register - for the plug on my entry. The past two days my page views have doubled the average, so both of your readers probably contributed to those numbers. I'm very appreciative.

We now return to your regular programming - everything you ever wanted to know about black on white crime, draining swamps, the DNA deficiencies of the "lesser races" and how to entertain White Supremacists.

  8. Actually, I'm still a member of SAG/AFTA. As we say in the biz, I'm in between roles. But, again, thanks for buying one of my movies. And, thanks for being a fan boy. I appreciate this every time I get a residual check for my world domination fund.

As with so many things, you're also wrong about the computers and the efficiency that we're supposed to get by throwing out 435 perfectly good computers and buying that many new ones along with 455 monitors. When I asked staff if this would replace any workers and thus save us money (a sign of more efficiency) I was told that would not be the case. So, how was "efficiency" to be measured, I asked? Ah, er, the computers would start faster when they are turned on. Yup. That was the answer. Look, City Hall isn't doing advanced theoretical physics. We need an efficient use of our money--which has been sorely lacking in local government--more than an efficiency defined as computers turning on a few seconds faster. Most of the work being done in City Hall could be done by the same number of people there now just using typewriters (but, I'm not suggesting that).

My suggestion is the one favored by most in the private sector: a rolling replacement or an as needed replacement. This way you're always shoveling in the newest and best equipment where and when it is required.

Your last sentence clearly shows that you do not understand my books (you did buy my books didn't you?) and my many essays and columns. I write them for those with normal intelligence. Let me try to clarify things for you. There are no "lesser races" or superior races or species in nature. And, I've written that at least a thousand times in so many different ways, that one imagines even you might understand. You see, Grasshopper, there are only different adaptations for different environmental niches and conditions. Which is superior, a fish or a bird? The question is nonsensical, as it is with races of humans and begs the questions: Superior at what? Where? When?

As to "White Supremacists?" I don't know anyone who says that Whites are supreme. I mostly see that term being used by anti-White bigots and self-haters who try to stop a discussion by name calling. Sorry, Cupcake, that doesn't work with me. Again, that's not the way nature works.

Thank you for reading the CM PRESS.
