HOMELESS HOUSING COMING TO COSTA MESA
Read some of the gushy comments in the above linked article. They sound nice and compassionate, don't they? Sort of like the War on Poverty.
Look, folks, charities are not the solution to our problems in Costa Mesa. They are the problem.
There are hundreds of homeless people on our streets. Of these, only a few are those who simply had bad luck and lost their homes. Most are mentally ill to one degree or another. Many are on the streets because they like being on the streets. They like the freedom. They don't like structure or being told what to do and when to do it.
By providing more services to homeless people (and illegal aliens) the City will just attract more people who need the services, and the charity bosses will encourage the inflow because they make nice salaries--but only when they can grow their charity businesses by showing ever greater needs for their services.
It's a big scam and the stable citizens of Costa Mesa are going to be the ones to suffer from this pathological altruism that is now being given the imprimatur of our City Council and local government.
Watch what will happen. The people who go into the homeless housing will be the few who really are Costa Mesa residents who had some bad luck. Then, we'll see puff PR stories in the Pilot about what a wonderful job the charities are doing to end homelessness.
Most of the homeless people will still be on the streets and they'll be joined by many more who will flock here for the ever expanding freebies given to them by the charities and the City.
It's like various gang outreach efforts where you read puff stories about how the charities have helped keep youths from joining gangs. The truth is that most of the youths who use the programs are not prone to being in gangs in the first place. They are the "boy scouts" and "girl scouts" of the neighborhood and would be that with or without the gang outreach programs.
Get on the gravy wagon
Yes, you too, I mean you, and you, and you, can get on the charity gravy wagon by starting your own non-profit. It's easy to do. You can then write yourself a big paycheck each week and you'll be praised in the local press as the kind and compassionate person that you portray. Few will ever ask about the pay and benefits that you give yourself.
Instead, they'll see your bleeding heart and your Mother Teresa act in the local newspapers. Yes, people will think that you live a monk's life with few possessions. Few will see the new Lexus in your garage in Mesa Verde or Newport Beach. They'll just see you showing up with moist eyes and a humble manner while offering your help to the less fortunate. Ahhhh, sweet charity. The milk of human kindness. And, as is usual, you and the other charity bosses and your running dogs in government and the press will swap awards that you've made up to keep the puff stories flowing. "Let's see, this year well give the Mother Teresa award to Joe over at his charity, and then next year, we'll give it to Pete."
There are suckers born every minute.
