CM PRESS # 950

MORE ON THE UTTER INCOMPETENCE OF OUR PRESENT CITY COUNCIL TO EVEN BE ABLE TO PUT UP A SIMPLE SIGN!

Folks, Bixby Knolls is a neighborhood up in Long Beach that was getting pretty dog eared a few years ago.

The main drag through Bixby Knolls is Atlantic Avenue. That's also the main shopping street.

The portion of Atlantic that is actually in Bixby Knolls is only about a mile and a half long.

Atlantic Avenue through Bixby Knolls looks a lot like West 19th Street in Costa Mesa.

It's about the same length, approximately the same amount of automobile traffic, etc.

Atlantic Avenue through Bixby Knolls also has a center divider that is almost the twin of the center divider on W. 19th Street.

Well, the citizens of the area wanted to rebrand their area and make it more upscale.  So, what did they do?  Among other things, they put up signs at both ends of their mile and a half long center divider indicating that you're now entering an area different from the rest of Atlantic Ave. which goes from the ocean to way past East Los Angeles.

And what kind of signs did the business like residents of Bixby Knolls have erected on their center divider?

Just look at the photo above.

Each sign is simply a plastic/cloth banner about 4 feet wide stretched between a couple of wood 4x4's with small knobs glued to the top of each 4 x4.

The signs themselves are painted in several colors to create excitement and they say, simply:

"Welcome to Bixby Knolls."

Now why hasn't our present City Council and all their expensive staff they've hired for the fifth floor of City Hall been able to come up with signs like that?

Folks, I've had signs made like that and they've cost me $200.00.  The 4x4's might run $40 at Home Depot and the white paint, knobs and glue will run you another $30.  Figure $ 10 bucks for the rope to tie the signs to the 4 x 4's and there you have it.

Folks, all the talk about our City being run like a business is BS unless the Council can come through on simple little projects like putting up signs and not breaking the bank to do it.

Yes, we know there is talk in City Hall about some more of those $30,000 concrete monument signs, etc. but we don't have to spend that much.  And, those signs become almost invisible, anyway.

Just put up simple signs at both ends of W. 19th Street like they've done in Bixby Knolls.

How damn hard is that? Geez!

BTW over the past few years, there's been a re-tenanting of Bixby Knolls with more upscale stores and the area is turning into a very nice area, while just a couple of miles north, if that, and within easy walking distance, the area looks like a ghetto.

YET ANOTHER ATTACK ON A WHITE BY BLACKS IN WHICH THE PRESS TRIES TO
HIDE THE RACE OF THE ATTACKERS

Another White guy who hadn't caught on to the racial hate being aimed at Whites.  Maybe this attack will wake him up.

WE EXPECT MORE FROM THESE THREE

Why can't these three Councilmembers even put up a friggin' sign on W. 19th Street?

The sign has been in the Westside Plans for years.

The CM PRESS has been going to City Council meetings since January asking that the sign be put up.

 Still no sign.
Steve Mensinger
Jim Righeimer
Eric Bever  (lacking focus?)

Eric Bever was even one of the early ones--long before he was on the Council--who helped put together the Westside Plans. Why is he ignoring them now? Why is there no sign? Why aren't the Westside plans front and center on the City's Website? # # #
