Our opinion:  Nothing is going to work until and unless the parking problem is solved.  The new plan to use valets is a loser.

Something creative such as building a parking structure above that section of Harbor Blvd or 19th Street
might help things.

Parking down below is a loser and always will be.

INVISIBLE WOMAN SHOOTS SIX ON DETROIT RIVER BOAT

Contrast the above story with the Sikh Temple shooting.  In the latter case, the shooter was immediately identified as being White.

In the Detroit shooting, as you can see in the above linked story, the race of the shooter is not given.  Why?  Because she's Black (we have that from other sources).

PUBLIC EMPLOYEE PENSIONS

You've probably heard the whine from some  Costa Mesa employees who say that we shouldn't blame them that they can retire young and get 90% of their salaries for the rest of their lives.

[ASIDE:  If you own your own business or work for a private business do you get such a
sweetheart deal?  We thought not.]

We continue:  These Costa Mesa employees then say we should blame past City Councils for their sweetheart deals.

In this, they're right.  We've had ditz heads on the Council for years.  Right now we just have one--Wendy Leece--who is a good example of how we gave away the store.  Wendy constantly praises city employees as the best in the country (How could she possible know this?), and thus implies that they should get such sweetheart deals.

Now, multiply Wendy by many times on prior City Councils and you see the problem.

Also, of course, Wendy and her fellow travelers on past Councils received monetary and other support from the very employees who they then gave sweetheart deals to when they were on the dais.

The Parity Scam and Leap Frog Cities
And, as we wrote years ago, one of the the ways that our employees got their pay and benefits constantly increased was through demanding parity with surrounding cities.

So, what would happen is that employees in, say, Huntington Beach would take the lead and demand higher pay and benefits and they'd hang tough.

Their City Council would then cave in and give it to them.  Next, employees in surrounding cities would use those salaries and benefits from Huntington Beach to demand the same thing in their cities.

And, the City Councilmembers in each of the leap frog cities, who had been supported by their employees in their election bids, would pretend to negotiate tough deals but would cave in and give their supporters most of what they wanted. And, they would justify this by saying that since employees in Huntington Beach (or whichever city they were using as their example for more pay and benefits) got more than our employees, we  should give our employees parity.

Then, the next time a contract would come up in any of the surrounding cities, the same leap frog scheme would be used.

Folks, one thing we should demand is that employee unions not be allowed to fund or support City Council candidates, of if they are allowed to do so, that if their supported candidates win election, that they be forced to recuse themselves from pay and pension talks.

HAVE YOU HEARD THOSE CONSPIRACY THEORIES ABOUT SOME RECENT MASS SHOOTERS?

The theories revolve around the notion that there is some type of psychological manipulation or testing, maybe involving mind altering drugs, going on with links to the U.S. government and that some mass shooters were involved as subjects in some way or another.

First there was Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan who shot and killed 13 people at Fort Hood.

Then there was James Holmes, the Joker gunman who killed people during a screening of Batman.  He was a neuroscience PhD candidate.

Now we have Wade Michael Page who killed people at a Sikh Temple this weekend.  He had served in an Army psychological operations unit.  By the way, Page lived on Holmes Ave. in Cudahy, Wisconsin.

You may be wondering why anyone would want to be able to cause people to become psychotic killers, right?  Well, imagine if you could have people--thousands, or maybe millions, of people--in an enemy country suddenly become psychotic mass killers right in their own country.  That country could quickly be destabilized and ripe for the picking.

IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG OVER AT THE DAILY PILOT?

It's now 5:45 AM on Monday, and the Daily Pilot still hasn't reported on the homicide of a man on the
Westside that the CM PRESS reported yesterday.

Doesn't anyone at the Daily Pilot check on what's going on in Costa Mesa at the end of the shift on Fridays or does everyone over there just go back to their far flung homes and forget about Costa Mesa until the next work week?

SUPPOSE...

Martian scientists wanted to hide the fact that there's life on Earth, yet they wanted to send a vehicle to Earth to do some low level scientific studies of soil. What might they do?

Well, they could send a rover to the middle of the Sahara desert.  Then, it would beam pictures back to Mars of sand and could report that there's no life on Earth.

That, dear friends, is what NASA has just done with our Mars rover.

Hey NASA!  The water and ice are down at the poles, not in the stupid crater where you landed the rover.

The highest probability of finding life--microbes, and perhaps even multi-cellular organisms that might thrive on Mars--would be near water and ice.

Now, why wouldn't NASA want to find such life on Mars?

Maybe it's because once such life is found, the next step is to look to see if it has DNA.  If it has DNA and if the DNA is similar to DNA found in Earth organisms then this points to a common origin of life, at least on these two planets and maybe throughout the universe

This could have far reaching implications in the way we Earthlings look at all of existence.
