The issue of identity as it plays out in Israel is of interest to people of all races, ethnicities, religions and nationalities who think about these things.
In Israel, more liberal Jews accept converts as Jews, while the most orthodox Jews, hold that only a person with a Jewish mother can be a Jew and that converts aren't really Jews.

WESTMINSTER TO LAY OFF STAFF AND MAKE OTHER CUTS
As reported in the OC REGISTER, Westminster's Mayor, Margie Rice, "said she would have wanted to see more salary reductions and she questioned why there are three top management positions: city manager, assistant city manager and assistant to the city manager. 'I think we're overloaded on the top,' she said."
And in Costa Mesa...
Many people in Costa Mesa are asking the same thing as Mayor rice up in Westminster. We now have a CEO, an Assistant CEO and a Deputy CEO along with many other highly paid executives.
What are they all doing? They're certainly not answering simple emails from the CM PRESS.
The CM PRESS has been a supporter of what we believe the good Councilmembers have been trying to do--right size government, get the best price for goods and services, improve Costa Mesa and especially the Westside, and be responsive to citizens.
Unfortunately, it seems that the talk is not always being translated into action.
