Newport got the award for “streamlined Community Development by combining Planning and Building department. We already do that. Kim Brandt was hired by Newport Beach to put those departments together.


Irvine officials went on taxpayer paid junkets to for a sister city program. Toshiba, Hyundai, Google and Cisco-Linksys did not come to Irvine because of the city. They came because of the vision of the Irvine Company. I would bet that none of those deals were hatched on the junkets. BTW, our sister city program is privately funded.

Huntington Beach got an award for giving taxpayer money to keep companies in town. Big business loves being subsidized…

Lastly, the airport built the power plant for reasons of safety and security etc. They cannot afford to have the power go down while screening passengers. It has happened I am ok with them building it but there is nothing green about building a power.

THE CM PRESS REPLIES:  Okay.  But, the rhetorical question remains.  Why didn't Costa Mesa get a mention about our low cost of doing business here?  We should have been number one on the list. Maybe someone, say in PR, should contact the OCBC and slap them silly for not giving Costa Mesa a mention. Businesses that locate to Costa Mesa could afford to hire more workers because our business fees are so low.

WHY NO MENTION OF COSTA MESA AS A BUSINESS FRIENDLY CITY?

--Could it be, as we've written many times before, because Costa Mesa hides its light under a bushel?
Our low business fees should be sent out to the whole country in 72-pt type.

--Could it also be that we're not aggressive enough in reaching out to businesses looking for new locations?

--Could it also be that businesses that need a prestige address don't want "Costa Mesa" on their letterhead? 
And, could this be because the City Council isn't moving fast enough to improve and upgrade our city and especially the Wasteside (sic) which is pulling down the whole city?
