What a casual reader might miss in that column is that every one of them is in Costa Mesa. So, what's the problem with Costa Mesa's schools, boys and girls?
A. Bad teachers
B. Bad administrators
C. Bad School facilities
D. Bad students because of demographics
If you're a lefty, you'll never get the answer right, because the correct answer is D.
Yup. To fix Costa Mesa's schools, we need to fix the City of Costa Mesa, not the schools. Fix the city and the schools will improve. It's no more complicated than that.
Get rid of the functionally obsolete slum apartment buildings and all the Latino "only" charities, and start improving the Westside (which is key), and as the demographics improve, the schools will improve.
Try to fix the schools, by just fixing the schools and you'll fail...again.
Look folks, the Westside has free after school homework charities up the ying yang and has had them for many years; and the schools never improve.
Why don't the schools improve? Because the student demographics don't improve. The Westside is being turned into a Latino ghetto and the City Council and the no-Planning Commission are doing little to change things. The Westside can't be fixed by nibbling at the edges. Major changes are needed.
Slum buildings have to be torn down.
New housing needs to be built near the bluffs to attract upwardly mobile people to that area. And, if this last thing is done--new housing near the bluffs--the pressure to remove the slums that are not on the bluffs will be great enough to start things moving in the right direction.
Do these things and we'll start attracting upwardly mobile people back to the Westside. Then, watch the schools improve. And if this happens, watch all the lefties crow that it was because we got better teachers or better administrators or we put in a new program or two. This will all just be BS. The schools in Costa Mesa will only improve when the demographics improve.

Now, why do you suppose that'[s the case? The six Blacks used racial slurs and attacked the two White guys. Reverse the races and this would be national news and you know there would be hate crime charges.

TINY GENE CHANGE CAUSES HIGHER INTELLIGENCE
No kidding. Geez. Very tiny changes in the genetic code cause all sorts of major differences. We've been writing about this for years. Maybe the guy who headed this study just hasn't been reading our stuff.
Here's what the leader of the study, Paul Thompson, said: "It is a strange result, you wouldn't think that something as simple as a small change in the genetic code could explain differences in intelligence worldwide."
No, Paul, it is not strange. It is the way the genetic code works. Very tiny changes at the gene end of things can cause very major changes at the manifestation end. It's like shooting a rifle. A tiny flinch at the trigger and the bullet can miss the target by yards.
The gene involved is HMGA2 and the change is of just one nucleotide. That means just one letter of the four letters of the genetic code (A,T,C,G) was changed at a certain location. BTW, there are about 2-3 billion repetitions of those four letters in each human's genetic code. Change one letter and you get someone who is bright. Don't change it and you have a Go Slow Wendyite who might say that they can't understand an eight page charter in just a few months. "Eight pages? Who can read and understand eight whole pages in just a few months? Hey, we don't have the HMGA2 mutation, you know." Yes, we know.
