CM PRESS # 103

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY

There is a real ethical problem with Steve Smith constantly telling readers that we should hide Costa Mesa's problems in order to attract businesses here.

Would you be pleased if you bought a house from a guy who told you that the plumbing was fine--but he knew it was leaking; that the electricity was perfect--but he knew it was likely to cause a serious fire--that the neighborhood was top quality--but he knew there had been 3 murders on that block?

Well, Costa Mesa has problems. And, the only way to solve them is to bring them out into the open and talk about them. Doing so isn't bad mouthing Costa Mesa, as Smith seems to think. It's an attempt to solve the problems. To correct them. To make Costa Mesa a much nicer, safer and better city.

Pretending there are no problems when you know this is a lie is a recipe for making those problems get worse.

It's also dishonest.

But even beyond this, such dishonesty isn't going to fool anyone but the most unsophisticated retailers.

Sophisticated retailers will review demographic reports of their trade area (usually 1 and 3 mile circles), to see income levels, etc. Full demographic reports will give race/ethnicity, education levels, household income levels, individual income levels, number of people between certain ages and much more. And, sophisticated retailers will drive the area to look at what kind of cars they see on the roads and in parking lots as an indicator of the type of customers who are in the area.

No, the better policy for Costa Mesa is to fix the problems. Then, when we say it's a great and safe city, we'll be telling the truth.

And, what about Smith's oft repeated suggestion that Costa Mesa's problems should be fixed in private and not in public? Well, that would be great. The problem is that this was tried in Costa Mesa and nothing was done. It was only when the improvers came on the scene and started making noise that things started getting better.

Because of the noise the improvers made, the Westside is much nicer today than it was a few years ago. But, the job isn't finished.

DON'T IGNORE RACIAL ASPECTS OF MOBS

Kansas City newspaper breaks a liberal rule and tells the truth: most recent mob assaults in that city are by Blacks and they're attacking Whites because they are white.

We feel sorry for the principals and others who are being replaced. This is just PC nonsense and the principals and others are not responsible for the fact that the students are scoring low on tests.

ANAHEIM WANTS TO BAN RED LIGHT CAMERAS FOREVER

The CM PRESS thinks Costa Mesa should do the same thing.

We've been of two minds on this issue ever since someone we knew was killed by a red light runner at Harbor and Adams several years ago, but we now think the red light cameras are causing more problems than they fix.

STEVE SMITH CONTINUES TO REVEAL THE ILLOGICAL THINKING OF A LEFTY
Steve Smith's MO over at the Daily Pilot is to write a column (HERE) and then reply to readers who post about his column.

Here's how Smith responded when philiesinfive wrote about the slums in Costa Mesa:

Steve Smith wrote on Apr 13, 2010 2:12 PM:

" philliesinfive... We agree on the need for a positive message but I stand by my statement that there are no slums in Costa Mesa. If you want to see what a real slum looks like, use Google images to show you. Nothing even close here. Thanks, Steve "

Huh?

You see, Smith is denying that something exists because in other places that something may be worse or bigger.

So, using Smith's logic, we might say that if Smith lights a plastic trash container on fire by stupidly putting hot fireworks in the trash container (which he did), and someone says there's a fire, Smith might reply:

"There is no fire there. If you want to see what a real fire looks like, use Google images to show you. Nothing even close here. Thanks, Steve."

JUDGE TELLS MISSISSIPPI SCHOOLS TO STOP SEGREGATING
Link

Meanwhile...in Costa Mesa, the Costa Mesa City Council continues funding some non-profits that appear to be segregating.

THE HEART OF THE ISSUE: Tax money should not be used in ways that favor some groups and not others. The logic is simple: We all pay taxes and we should all get the full benefit of our taxes.

THE PROBLEM WITH SOME NON-PROFITS IN COSTA MESA: Some non-profits in Costa Mesa--mostly on the Westside--receive tax money, but they only serve one racial/ethnic group.

As we've reported numerous times, one such non-profit even told a White girl that she wasn't welcome in their after school homework help programs because of the color of her skin.

And, also as we've reported, the Feds busted this non-profit.

But, there are other non-profits that seem to be doing the same thing. And, the CM PRESS is calling on the Costa Mesa City Council to stop giving our tax money to such non-profits.

How about you? Do you want your tax money to go to a non-profit that won't let you use their services because you're the wrong color?
