No one arrested in Costa Mesa...yet. This story is from Yorba Linda.

Just saying "Gosh, I was just overcome with emotion," won't work.  Of course a person who threatens others is overcome with emotion.  That's why they threaten them. You're supposed to be able to control your emotions and not threaten others.  If you can't control your emotions and you act out, you can expect legal action.

THIS IS NEWS?

According to  this article in the DAILY PILOT, three people: Greg Ridge (he often posts as Gericault); Judy Lindsay, and Sarah Halverson called a press conference today at City Hall to say that in their opinion the City Council should slow down and rescind the lay off notices. Ho hum.

We suggest that these three voluntarily donate all their money to pay for employee pensions and to help get Costa Mesa out of the financial hole it's in.

And, while they're at it, maybe they could donate some money to take care of our decaying infrastructure that hasn't been fixed because our money is going to pay salaries and pensions instead.

LEFTY THUGS STILL TRYING TO INTIMIDATE THE COSTA MESA CITY COUNCIL

From what we've seen, it seems clear that the usual lefty thugs are trying to use the tragic death of a Costa Mesa employee to try to brow beat and have the Costa Mesa City Council pull a Windy Leece and get all squishy.

Hopefully, the four good Council members will consider the source of the hate speech that is aimed at them and not be deterred from doing what is right for the citizens of Costa Mesa.

3R COMMITTEE MEETS TONIGHT
Link to agenda and details.

This is the committee that makes recommendations to the City Council to give your money to some charities that many believe are acting as magnets and helping keep the Westside down.

Some Westside charities appear to be racially/ethnically exclusive clubs.

One charity told a White girl that she was the wrong color to use their after school services. This was reported to the Feds who swooped in on this charity and made them sign a consent decree to not discriminate. *

Unfortunately, some of the other charities are more clever in their discrimination.

One trick is to say that anyone can apply for their services. However, what happens is that people aren't accepted to use the services if they are the wrong race/ethnicity.

Another trick is to locate the charities in slum neighborhoods where middle class parents wouldn't want to send their kids.

Another trick is to make middle class kids feel unwanted by an emphasis on non-American culture in the charities.

Here's what to remember about this:  The City Council DOES NOT have to give any of your money to the charities.  It DOES NOT have to follow the recommendations of the 3R Committee which is often biased toward giving money to these charities.

The City Council can decide not to give your money to the charities but can use this money to fix streets and other infrastructure items, so long as those streets and infrastructure items are on the Westside.

The CM PRESS believes that the proper use of our money is in fixing streets and infrastructure items on the Westside and that's where we believe the City Council should put all of this money.

[* BTW:  If any of our friends want to see the Federal Consent Decree, just privately email us your fax number and we'll send you a copy.]

CHANGES MAY NEED TO BE MADE IN THE CMPD

Here's part of what  frequent poster bigdawg (who sounds like he has inside CMPD information) has posted at the Daily Pilot as of 8:07 AM today:

"Don't forget those 8 plain clothes officers for Rig and Mens were paid overtime and had to drop whatever St. Patty's day plans they had to be their. is it not hypocrisy to post salaries and OT on the internet, but then force some to work OT against their will for personal security?"

So, how do you suppose bigdawg knew there were "8 plain clothes officers," involved? And, how did he know the 8 plain clothes officers were forced "to work OT against their will"?

As far as we know, none of this was made public.

We're reading some comments over at the Daily Pilot and elsewhere that sound libelous as well as threatening toward some of our elected officials.

Hopefully, the proper authorities will investigate such comments.

Free speech has limits.  Among other things, you can't threaten people and you can't falsely accuse them of crimes.

One commenter has accused an elected official of "murder."  Murder is a crime.  The elected official clearly did not commit a murder. Thus, the statement is a false accusation of a crime.

LOBDELL MOVIN' ON UP

As we previously reported, Bill Lobdell, who has lately been writing a twice weekly column for the Daily Pilot, has been hired by Costa Mesa CEO Tom Hatch as a PR flak for the city.

Lobdell will bill the city $ 75.00 per hour for his work with an apparent cap of 40 hours per week.

Thus, he is expected to make up to $ 3,000 per week, or a total of around $36,000 for the 90 day contract.

That beats writing a column for a newspaper all to hell.  Newspapers are notorious for paying next to nothing.

One wonders how this is going to go over with Costa Mesa employees who are getting pink slips.

We also wonder if some will think that Lobdell is too liberal for the gig.

Here's a link to Lobdell's final regular column in the Daily Pilot.

CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS,  WHO HAS YOUR BACKS?

WHY AREN'T YOUR APPOINTEES TO THE TWO COMMISSIONS SPEAKING OUT AND DEFENDING YOU AND YOUR NECESSARY ACTIONS TO GET RID OF COSTA MESA'S RED INK?

In Costa Mesa, you Council members don't have much opportunity to assemble a team of people around you that you can trust and who will help you do your jobs.

You really only have the five seats on the no-Planning Commission and the five seats on the no-Parks and Recreation Commission in which to put people who are paid and who should be on your side.

Why are we just hearing silence from most of these people?  Are you sure you've put the right people in these positions of responsibility or have you put fair weather friends there who want to hide and who are afraid to speak out for what's right?

Here's your no-Planning Commission: Edward Salcedo, Sam Clark, Colin McCarthy, Jim Fitzpatrick, Robert Dickson.

Here's your no-Parks and Recreation Commission: Dan Vozenitek, Jeff R. Mathews, Kim Pederson, Dean Abernathy, Ethan Temianka.

We believe we may have seen a couple of these people being stand up guys, but others seem to be hiding.

Shouldn't you, as the City Council, make some changes to these two commissions if you have people there who are just seat warmers and who won't back up your policies and positions?

SHRILL CHICKEN LITTLE AT IT AGAIN

Here's the latest moronic post from this shrill chicken little Geoff West that is appearing in the Daily Pilot:  His post is in black bold. Our comments are in blue italic.

Geoff West at 9:55 PM March 20, 2011
Here's a better quote - from Gary Monahan AFTER he found out about Huy Pham's death and while he was celebrating St. Patrick's Day at his gin mill: "I've got the biggest day of my life here. I have a business and I'm trying to survive my business. I just got the word like an hour ago. How do I just jump into something else and go down there? My heart goes out for what happened today, but I can't fix it."

Monahan is right. "Mayor" is a part time job. It doesn't support Monahan's family or his employees. St. Patrick's day is the biggest day of the year for an Irish Pub. And, what could he do to change things? A man fell or jumped off a roof. The reasons are unclear. Employees, who apparently and unreasonably believe that they have life time jobs, then threatened Council members who were on the scene. Adding the Mayor to the mix wouldn't have helped a thing and may have added to the turmoil and danger.

Yes, sir. There's a class act for you and a real "leader". When the city he heads as mayor has the biggest crisis in it's history - one that demands leadership - he chooses to stay at his pub in his kilt and cute little hat and continue to pull those beer taps.

This is a sad event, but it is not the biggest crisis in the City's history. This individual (if he didn't just slip and fall) chose his course of action.  Why he did this, we don't know.

We do know, however, that it is psychologically unhealthy to create a workplace atmosphere in which employees believe too strongly that they are part of some very close knit family instead of employees.

A certain camaraderie is good for morale, but when it goes too far it can lead some to put all their emotional eggs in that one "family" basket and identify too strongly with their job and their fellow employees.

A real leader would have dropped everything - as Wendy Leece did - and raced to City Hall to BE SURE the employees were being cared-for.

Nonsense. Wendy Leece is no real leader.  She's part of the problem.  All she's done is help create a toxic cultic atmosphere in which employees are conditioned to believe that they are part of a "family," and that they are under attack by "evil" elected officials and even citizens of  Costa Mesa who want to harm the family.  This is the stuff of Jim Jones.

As we've written before, all that is going on is that the City Council is doing its job in trying to get Costa Mesa's financial house in order.

And, like private sector businesses, it is also trying to get its employee costs in line.

Employees are not part of a family.  They are part of a work force.  They were not told that they would have life time jobs when they were hired.

In good times, they did well.  Now, the economy is in the dumps. Just like people in the private sector, City employees, maybe for the first time, are feeling the results of our down economy.  That's life.

The illiterate yapper, husker2112, stumbles and fumbles and demands a recall for Leece when she's the only member of the City Council to demonstrate REAL leadership.

Again, Leece has not demonstrated real leadership.  She's not demonstrated any leadership at all.  She's just emoted.

A previous poster is correct - she didn't need an armed escort home and undercover police posted outside her house. All that "recall" yammering should be directed elsewhere - you can guess the name(s).

West, where did you get the information that someone needed "an armed escort home and undercover police posted" outside that person's or persons' house(s)?  West, who told you this?  Who was it that needed the armed escort and the undercover police?

We guess West is  referring to Mayor Pro Tem Righeimer and Council member Mensinger since it was reported (accompanied by a photo) that a City employee tried to physically attack one or both of these two elected officials and had to be restrained.  It was also reported that City CEO Tom Hatch was told by another employee that Hatch wasn't welcome at City Hall.

However, West's information seems to go beyond what was publicly released. So, where did he get his information?  Who, on the inside, is giving West what seems to be confidential information? Or, is he just making this up?

And, if it is true that our elected officials and top manager need police protection from employees of the City, doesn't this show that the shrill hate speech that began before the last election has just helped push some individuals with psychological problems over the edge?

And, shouldn't employees who pose a threat to our elected leaders and city management be terminated immediately and prosecuted if the facts show this is appropriate?

Hopefully, our many good employees will psychologically immunize themselves against attempts by some who have hate in their hearts who will try to use employees' understandable feelings of uncertainty in these financially troubling times to push these employees to improperly act out.

Many of us in the private sector have gone through many ups and downs. Firings, layoffs, business failures and more.  Again, that's just life, and life is just about overcoming obstacles.

[About the photo of West.  No, we don't know what he has under his shirt either.  To us it looks like a microwave oven or maybe a hand towel dispenser from a men's room.]

WILL CITY EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE BEEN THREATENING CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS BE TERMINATED AND HAVE RESTRAINING ORDERS ISSUED AGAINST THEM?

The above question in a variety of forms and with some variations is being asked in Costa Mesa right now.

What do you do with employees who think they own the City and City Hall and who threaten both elected City Council members as well as City management?

Do you do nothing and let them enter and roam the halls of City Hall at will?  If you do this, and excuse the inexcusable and threatening behavior as simply the product of emotion, you may put elected officials and others in danger from unbalanced individuals.

And, what about the City employees who are posting threats on the Internet?  Is the City checking City owned computers?  Is the City doing everything in its power to discover who these anonymous commenters are and is the City turning that information over to prosecutors and perhaps the FBI or other non-city authorities who can be trusted to be unbiased?

It's very serious when anyone threatens an elected official.  Such threats need to be taken seriously.

STILL NO ANSWERS FROM NO-PLANNING COMMISSIONER ROB DICKSON TO SOME VERY SIMPLE QUESTIONS

Why is this guy hiding?  Why is he afraid to email us?

Hey, City Council, our experience is that each and every one of you (including Windy (sic) Leece) answers questions and emails from citizens of Costa Mesa.

So, how can you keep a guy like Dickson on the no-Planning Commission when he arrogantly refuses to answer any of our questions or to even email us his reasons for not answering them?

We've had no contact from this guy at all. Zero. Nothing. He is apparently ignoring us and hiding.

We don't need dead wood on the no-Planning Commission.  We need people with some spine who are activist and who want to improve Costa Mesa; not people who just want a resume enhancement and a quick pay day for doing nothing more than warming a seat and hiding from the public.

Here are the nine simple questions again:

1. Do you support the overlays on the Westside?
2. Do you support building homes on the Westside bluffs?
3. Do you think we have too many charities on the Westside?
4. Do you think we should remove slums?
5. Do you think we should make W. 19th Street into a destination location similar to 2nd Street in Belmont Shore?
6. Do you think illegal aliens should be arrested and be deported?
7. Do you think closing the job center was a good idea?
8. Do you deny that illegal aliens are being hired in businesses on the Westside?
9. Do you deny that there is pollution coming from some businesses on the Westside?

If Dickson doesn't want to answer some of these questions, then he should just answer the others. Once we have an email from him, we may contact him on the phone or in person.

We find it very odd that the guy won't email us, but has had a friend say we should call him on the phone.  Now, why would someone not want to email someone?  Hmmmm?  We can think of a few reasons, and we're sure you can also.

C'mon City Council, you appointed Dickson to the no-Planning Commission, tell him to contact us.

We thought our new Council wanted the "A" Team on the no-Planning Commission.

And, no, we're not picking on Dickson.  This guy has made anti-improvement statements in the past, and we want him to clarify where he stands. That's all.

ACCIDENT?

Could Huy Pham have just been the victim of a tragic accident?

Some folks are pointing out things that don't seem to add up to a suicide.

From all reports--from his brother, from his co-workers and from others that knew him--Huy was happy, he was healthy, he was taking college classes, he was even planning on going to Mt.Everest, and he apparently had a strong family in which he received emotional support. There were no apparent signs of despair or depression.  There was no suicide note.

Some wonder if  Huy, maybe on a lark, just went up on the roof of City Hall, perhaps to get a sense of what it would be like on Mt.Everest, or maybe just to get some fresh air and to think, and he got too close to the edge of the roof and tripped.  Remember, Huy was recovering from a foot injury and maybe this gave him unsure footing.

MAYOR MONAHAN SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT

The usual haters and bigots have been trying to use the tragic death of a Costa Mesa employee yesterday for political advantage.

One of the things some haters and bigots did was to go to Monahan's bar, catch Gary off guard, and take photos of him smiling while dressed up in festive St. Patrick's Day clothes.

The photos were then used to try to show that Gary didn't care about the death of the employee.

Remember, an Irish bar's busiest day of the year is probably St. Patrick's Day.

Running his bar is Monahan's full time job.  That's how he supports himself, his family (wife and six kids) and his employees.  He was at work and trying to make the day an enjoyable and fun one for his customers when he was photographed.

To clear up the record, Gary issued a press release today which is reproduced below in full:

March 18, 2011

STATEMENT FROM COSTA MESA MAYOR GARY MONAHAN

Yesterday was a heartbreaking day for all of us who call Costa Mesa home.

What is lost in all of the rhetoric is the fact that this is a tragic incident in the midst of a very difficult situation.  Our city lost one of it's brethren, and it certainly will take some time for it to heal.

Before I was informed of yesterday's incident, the union decided to take despicable advantage of this tragic situation to advance their agenda.

Had I known what transpired, I never would have agreed to pose for photos or engage in any revelry.

I became informed of the situation and contacted two of my fellow council members, who were on the scene, and quickly brought me up to speed with the details of the situation.

After learning of the volatility of the situation, I realized that my presence could further inflame and escalate the situation, and decided to not visit City Hall.

I remained in constant communication with my council colleagues, and was kept informed as the rest of the day transpired.

I understand the anger and hurt surrounding these potential layoffs.  I - and my council colleagues-have not made these decisions lightly, and we realize that our decisions are impacting families.

As Tom explained, we are working with staff to work through this very difficult situation, and I am hopeful that we can eliminate the politicization of this tragic incident, and worked together to heal our great city.

SUICIDE AT CITY HALL
Link to OC Register report on yesterday's suicide.

We have very few details about the state of mind of the man who jumped to his death yesterday or of any particular psychological vulnerabilities that he may have had or even what his real reason was for doing what he did.

All anyone can say for sure is that the death of anyone with a full life ahead of them is a sad thing, and I'm sure everyone of good will in Costa Mesa sends their condolences to the family of this man.

What we do know, generally, and apart from the particular state of mind of this man, is that the human mind is often susceptible to an emotionally charged atmosphere, and that at such times perspective can be lost and some individuals may not be able to roll with the punches.

There are those who have been using hate speech and threats in an attempt to whip up emotions of employees against a City Council trying to do its job and dig Costa Mesa out of a financial hole.

Read the comments following the OC Register article and also the ones following the Daily Pilot report of the same incident [HERE] and you'll see many examples of violent hate speech. This type of speech can have an effect on some vulnerable individuals.

You'll also read constant comments about Costa Mesa employees being a family.  They are not a family.  They are co-workers. They are hired to do a job. Talk of "family" gives an emotional charge to the job that might lead some to so identify with their "family" that any thought of it breaking up is worse than death.

All that is really going on in Costa Mesa is that some workers are being given pink slips that may come due in six months.  It was statutorily necessary to give out all these pink slips at this time.

As the months go on, many of the pink slips given out now may be revoked.

And, some workers who are actually laid off may even just be "transferred" to private firms and will continue doing the same work they're doing now.  Others will have a long period in which they can collect unemployment and look for new jobs or maybe start their own businesses.

This is not doomsday. It is a change. That's all it is. People are fired and laid off all across the U.S. each and every day.  It is part of life. No one is hired and told that they have life time employment.

Those who are blogging under anonymous names and making threats and whipping up hysteria may be to blame for this tragedy. We can't know for sure, but they need to tone it down and they need to keep things in perspective.

This hate and hysteria began during the last election cycle with a few people who not only started whipping up the hysteria but who, by the nature of the respect given to their jobs with the city, helped legitimize such hate and such hysteria in the minds of others.

This was then picked up by others, including many anonymous bloggers and even a mentally unstable non-anonymous blogger or two.  This is not a psychologically healthy atmosphere.

The mass pink slips are not the end of the world.  They are not breaking up a family. They have nothing do to with the identity and self-worth of each individual. They are no reflection on the quality of the job being done by each individual. There is nothing personal in the pink slips.

Life goes on with its ups and downs. To weather the storms of life, it is wise to not put all your emotional eggs in a single basket.  One must know that a job is not the totality of one's life.  It is a job.  It is a means to an end.  That's all it is.

If one understands that the only constant in existence is change, one has a better chance of keeping things in proper perspective.

Like most other people, I've had my ups and downs.  When I've faced the downs and the uncertainities that we all face, I've found Peggy Lee's Is That All There Is a help in putting things in perspective.  LINK TO PEGGY LEE VIDEO.

WHITES CONTINUE TO FLEE THE DEMOCRAT PARTY
Link

We've been looking at many anecdotal indicators over the past couple of years and we think there may be more going on here than many people realize right now.

If we're sensing things correctly, we think that Whites may be coming back, i.e. that Whites may, as a group, be rejecting multiculti and diversity concepts as being good for them and may be reasserting their natural right to be.

And, they may be rejecting the notion that they are somehow evil for being who and what they are.

Can it be that Whites are actually ending their long downward march and are no longer apologizing for being born?  Can it be that Whites are starting to lift their heads once again instead of shuffling along with downcast eyes as though they are whipped dogs?

Can it be that Whites are now, like the American Indians before them, shaking off their broken spirits and are feeling good about themselves again?

You may be thinking that I'm reading too much into this story.  Maybe.  Maybe not. Time will tell.

At last night's Homeless Task Force meeting, Planning Commissioner Jim Fitzpatrick cut through a lot of the mealy mouthed kumbaya BS from the top heavy with charity types Task Force by standing up in the audience (he was there as a private citizen) and clearly indicating that he wanted Lion's Park to be usable by the stable citizens of Costa Mesa again.

This action by Fitzpatrick put him on the good side of many improvers.

Here's why Fitzpatrick's action was seen as a plus; in the form of a quick primer and/or reminder of how local government works (in italics):

The collective City Council is the local equivalent of  the U.S. President and Congress wrapped up into one body of five people.  Any three of the five, voting together, can change almost anything in the city.

The next highest body is the Planning Commission.  The five Commissioners aren't elected, but are appointed by the City Council.

These Planning Commissioners have the ability to make major changes in the city. However, there are often too many people appointed to the Planning Commission who simply show up at meetings and rubber stamp whatever is put in front of them and collect their pay.  We think this is a waste of  seats that should go to activists who aren't afraid to use the power given to them  by the Council.

In other words, we believe that every single seat on the Planning Commission should be filled by an activist who gets involved in many aspects of our city and who will speak up for things that will improve our city.

During the just past election cycle we had a private conversation with a City Council member in which we were told that this Councilmember wanted  "A Team"  people on the Planning Commission.  We'd like to believe that, but as you know, we wonder if that's what we have in every case.

By the way, at last night's Homeless Task Force meeting, Planning Commissioner Colin McCarthy was there (he's on the Task Force), Planning Commissioner Edward Salcedo was there (he's also on the Task Force) and, as mentioned above, Planning Commissioner Jim Fitzpatrick was there as a private citizen.

Missing were Planning Commissioners Sam Clark and Robert Dickson.

Why weren't these two there?

THE LATEST ON NEWBIE NO-PLANNING COMMISSIONER DICKSON

First, Dickson ignored our nine simple questions.  Then, a third party friend of Dickson's contacted us and said that Dickson wasn't going to answer our questions but that we should call Dickson on the phone.

We indicated to Dickson's friend that Dickson should simply email us his answers to the nine questions.  That way there would be no doubt as to his positions and there would be no possibility that he would be misquoted or taken out of context.

Now we've been contacted by the same third party again who says that Dickson will answer our questions but we should call him on the phone for the answers.

What are we to make of this?

Our present opinion of Dickson is that he's a do-nothing, know-nothing social climber who is against real improvement of the Westside and that he won't bring in the real improvement that is needed.

As far as we can tell, he's like Windy Leece who says she's for improvement but whose idea of improvement seems to be to do nothing more than plant flowers in front of slums.

And as far as the do-nothing category goes, we can't remember seeing Dickson at any City Council meetings, no-Planning Commission meetings, City Council study sessions or other meetings that activists attend to try to help move Costa Mesa forward.

He did show up at some candidate forums during the last election cycle where he was seen schmoozing  and joking with candidates and their activist supporters, in what we believe was his attempt to get a free ride on to the no-Planning Commission.

Why are we all over this guy, you ask?  It's because, as we previously reported, this guy used to make smarmy, negative comments about improvement and improvers in posts to the Daily Pilot and as far as we know he's never been active and just showed up at candidate forums to get a resume enhancement appointment.

We even posted a couple of this guy's comments that appeared in the Daily Pilot.  Here they are again:

"They [Improvers] accuse Westside businesses of everything from hiring illegal immigrants to causing cancer — all without a shred of evidence."

He has also called Improvers "self-anointed Improvers."

Is this guy from the Planet OJ Jury? Can't he make reasonable assumptions about what he sees and smells on the Westside?   Maybe he just doesn't spend much time on the Westside.  Maybe he doesn't know where it is.

Just take a drive down Placentia Ave and you can smell the pollution.  And, look out of the window of your car and you can see presumed illegal aliens congregating near the factories.

Dickson, you have our private email address.  Just answer the nine questions.  Once we have your answers, we can talk about your answers on the phone or in person.  But, we want your answers to those nine questions to set the stage.

Maybe you can disabuse us of our opinions.  Maybe we have it wrong. Help us get it right by simply answering the nine questions via email.  Then, we'll talk.

But, you better understand that we're immune to schmoozing and ass kissing.

Everything is wonderful blah, blah, blah, blah, we don't have a financial crisis blah, blah, blah, blah. We shouldn't rush trying to fix things blah, blah, blah, blah.

CM PRESS # 439

FROM THE MISLEADING HEADLINE FILE:

Here's a headline now appearing in the Daily Pilot: "Former policeman plants hidden GPS to track woman's car." Link

Actually, he wasn't a "former policeman" when he did the dirty deed.

He was a full fledged Costa Mesa Policeman at that time. "Former" was added after he was arrested. Also, he wasn't much interested in tracking the car. He was tracking the woman.  We call that stalking.  And, something that needs to be mentioned is that the GPS device is owned by the CMPD.

We've written about this before and our concern is not so much with this one bad cop who is now a former cop, but rather with the fact that he was apparently able to simply walk in, pick up a City owned GPS tracking device and its monitor, and no one asked him what he was doing.

Are other cops, say with political or social motives, doing the same thing to innocent citizens?

COSTA MESA HOMELESS TASK FORCE HAS FIRST MEETING

With a packed City Hall conference room, the 18 members of the Homeless Task Force met today for the first time to try to solve the problem of chronic homelessness in Costa Mesa.  It is estimated that the work of the task force will run between 6 and 9 months.

It appears from early comments made both by task force members as well as by members of the audience that solving this problem is going to be difficult if not impossible.

The task force itself is an almost perfect storm of conflicting interests with some members more concerned in doing what they perceive to be their compassionate duty to feed people--especially in Lion's Park--and with others who want the park to be made homeless free.

And, while the main focus appears to be on Lion's Park, some in attendance pointed out that the problem has spread city wide.

What's the easy answer?  Cut off the food and all the other freebies.  But, the reality is that it's not that simple.  The rights of the homeless people and of those feeding them need to be upheld.

IT LOOKS AS THOUGH NEWBIE, WET BEHIND THE EARS NO-PLANNING COMMISSIONER ROB DICKSON ISN'T GOING TO ANSWER OUR NINE SIMPLE QUESTIONS

Do you wonder why?  What's so difficult about these?  They're not personal questions. They're all related to his paid position as a no-Planning Commissioner.

Let me repeat that. The guy gets paid by us to be on the no-Planning Commission. So, why does he want to hide his views about the Westside.  Maybe he thinks he's too important to answer these questions?  Arrogance?  Full of himself?

Even Wendy Leece--who was elected to the City Council, twice--answered  our questions.  She didn't think she was too important to answer questions.  Of course she tried to fudge some answers, but at least she had the respect for a citizen to answer.

So, why is Dickson ducking us?  Hmmmm?  Well, if these questions are too difficult or seem too vague, he should let us know and we'll rephrase or clarify them.

WINDY (sic) LEECE BLOWS IT AGAIN

At last night's City Council meeting (just as we had predicted) Windy Leece wasted a lot of time by rambling on in her dumb attempt to get a rehearing of the outsourcing issues.  It was pathetic.

And also as we predicted, her requests were turned down. There just wasn't any good reason given to have such a rehearing.

Yes, we know calling Wendy,Windy isn't all that clever, but it does fit, given the way she just rambles on and on and on and on and on and on and on (like that) without ever saying anything.

C'mon Wendy get with the program and work to improve Costa Mesa and stop this dumb crap and  also your other crap of enabling illegal alien magnet charities.  Stop being an improvement obstructionist like the guy in the article below.

DICKSON SHOULD NOT BE ON THE NO-PLANNING COMMISSION--HE'S AGAINST GENUINE IMPROVEMENT AND IS BAD FOR THE WESTSIDE

Here's what we wrote about Dickson in CM PRESS # 832 on October 5, 2009--the last time this guy applied to be on the no-Planning Commission (he hadn't kissed up enough to some Council members  back then and didn't get on the Commission at that time).

Dickson has been outspoken against cutting back on industrial zoning and seems to be against any genuine deep improvement of the Westside--at least as some of us who started the improvement movement would define such improvement. He has also called Improvers "self-anointed Improvers."
In a [Daily Pilot column], Dickson wrote the following: "They [Improvers] accuse Westside businesses of everything from hiring illegal immigrants to causing cancer — all without a shred of evidence."

Good grief! And,this guy wants to be on either of the two commissions where he'll get to vote on important Westside issues?

After we started writing about Dickson this week, we received several anonymous posts saying he's a good guy and that he may have changed his views on improving the Westside.  Well, if that's the case, let Dickson clearly state how he wants to improve the Westside.

Come on Dickson, send us a statement (using your real name).  We'll make it simple for you, just answer these questions:

You see, Dickson, we think you're a phony baloney social climber who just wants to be on the no-Planning Commission as a resume enhancement.

But, maybe you think we have you pegged wrong.  Write us.

MORE ON THIS GUY DICKSON WHO'S A NEWBIE ON THE NO-PLANNING COMMISSION

Dickson wrote this in 2008:

" Mr. Millard, if you really want to set the record straight, stop claiming
that you want to improve Costa Mesa. You want no such thing, as you've repeatedly advocated for a merger of Costa Mesa INTO Newport Beach.
I respect honest advocacy and people who stand up for what they believe in,
and but your repeated calls for wiping the municipal entity that is Costa
Mesa off the map, while claiming that all you want is improvement for Costa
Mesa, is completely disingenuous. So set the record straight, Mr. Millard,
do you want Costa Mesa to improve or disappear? "

 I RESPONDED:

Dickson, I want to see the geographic area that we call Costa
Mesa improved. The name "Costa Mesa" and the corporate/civic entity that it
represents isn't worth anything if it doesn't benefit us and our families.

And, if it doesn't benefit us, then we shouldn't be wedded to the concept of
having it as a separate city. If we can improve the quality of life for the
citizens who live in this geographic area by merging with Newport Beach,
that's a good move for our citizens.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty much a voice in the wilderness on this, so you
needn't worry that the slums, the industrial buildings on our view bluffs,
the pollution, the gangs, the low school scores and other negatives will
soon go away.

Enjoy your misplaced jingoism, but be sure to lock the doors on your home
which has less value than it should have and stay out of certain
neighborhoods at night and don't breathe the air downwind of the
industrialized bluffs and if you have kids, you may want to put them in
Newport Beach schools.
----------------
And, here we are three years later and the slums, the industrial buildings on our view bluffs, the pollution, the gangs, the low school scores and other negatives are still here. Dickson is a status quo guy who won't rock the boat to improve Costa Mesa.  That's not what we need on the no-Planning Commission.

Doesn't anyone make sure we don't have cops on the CMPD who have psychological problems?

And, doesn't anyone keep an eye on City owned equipment, or can cops just take and use whatever they want any time they want for any reason they want?

Is anyone checking to see if City owned computers are being used to threaten people?

And, what about the stink eye investigation?

Can cops treat the City owned helicopter as their personal property and give joy rides in the helicopter to butter up people that they want to influence into saying nice things about the program?

Can the cops just send two cruisers to park in front of a citizen's home after the citizen wrote a column in the Daily Pilot about some in the department being too cozy with illegal aliens?

OFFICIOUS, POLLYANNAISH, WET BEHIND THE EARS NO-PLANNING COMMISSIONER TELLS US HIS DOOR IS ALWAYS OPEN

At last night's no-Planning Commission meeting we once again reminded the no-Planning Commission that fixing the Westside should be their top priority and that if we fix the Westside, we fix all of Costa Mesa.

Then, newbie Commissioner Robert Dickson officiously told us his door was always open. Ho hum.  This from a guy who knows nothing.

Dickson is the guy who used to write anti-improver, Pollyannish crap in posts to the Daily Pilot.  One of his posts was little more than a strung together series of gushy adjectives that sounded like a travel brochure.

He'd write this crap after improvers would indicate something  needed improvement.

Our impression of this guy at that time was that he felt we should bury our heads in the sand instead of  pointing out problems, because, in his view,  if we pointed out problems Costa Mesa would get a bad rap.

The position of most improvers was and still is that you can't fix something in the City unless you point out that it's a problem that needs fixing.
