CHISORA SLAPS KLITSCHKO AT WEIGH-IN FOR SATURDAY'S FIGHT

Maybe it was just a publicity stunt to puff the fight, maybe not.

Chisora says he's going to knock out Klitschko in the eighth round.  Don't expect Chisora to last that long. 

Although the elder Klitschko is now 40-years-old, he's tough and has a punch.  Even so, at 40, you know he's going to get tired if the fight lasts too long.  So, expect him to come on fast and try to end it by the third or fourth round.

Chisora is a straight at you fighter with a dangerous and huge overhand right out of nowhere that can devastate an opponent if it hits. However, Klitschko should be able to avoid it.

My prediction is Klitschko by knockout and most likely with a right or left hook.

Mr. A--I want a clause that Righeimer can't make himself king.  I mean the present draft doesn't preclude that, so I want it in there. Now, let me tell you about kings.  Back in the....(6 hours later)...and that's just about one king.  Now, let me tell you about...(10 hours later)....

Ms. B--I want a clause about a helicopter in the charter and we need to put a clause in there saying we won't let a nuke plant open in Costa Mesa.  I'm also against oil wells.  Put that in there.

Ms. C--I don't trust the Council.  I want a clause to do away with the Council and have town hall meetings like in Vermont.

Mr. A--Maybe I want a clause that Righeimer can't name himself emperor, either. Yes, that's what I want.

Ms. B--What about my helicopter?  You people aren't listening to me. And, nuke plants are dangerous.

Mr. A--And, I don't want Righeimer to name himself master of the universe either.  Put that clause in there.

Mr. D--Charter?  I thougt this meeting was about "chatter."  I'm against chatter. Sometimes my teeth chatter.  I think it's a conspiracy. How come the Council doesn't listen to me?  I go to the podium and I tell them about chatter, but does the Council do anything?  I think we need to recall the Council.  I want a clause against chatter in the charter.  I also want it called the No Chatter Charter.

Mr. T--I  think we need to slow down this process.  A seven page charter should take at least five years to develop.  And, we shouldn't cut and paste.  We need to start from scratch.  I mean, we need to go chop down a tree and turn it into paper and then use that paper to come up with a charter.

Ms. B--I disagree with Mr. T.  I don't want any trees chopped down.  Trees are people, you know.  They have feelings. I have never seen a poem....

Mr. A--I also want a clause that Righeimer can't name himself head chef, captain of the ship, platoon Sgt., or chief bottle washer. 

Mr. P--I want illegal aliens to have a say in the charter.  I think we need to reach out to them.

Ms. L--I think we need to have a group hug and a candle light march. Also, you shouldn't call them illegal aliens.  They're stakeholders. 

Mr. J--I'm a Republican, you betcha, but I voted for Obama last time and I'll vote for him again.

And so it goes when neurotics meet and when people don't understand that we have a representative form of government with elected officials to represent us, and not an unworkable pure democracy in which citizens vote on every issue before them.

MORE ON THE CHARTER MEETING

We're seeing the usual silly comments from the regular improvement obstructionists following the above linked Daily Pilot story on the recent charter meeting.

A few of these people whine about a guy from Sacramento getting to speak for ten minutes instead of the normal three.

Actually, if anyone had been paying attention they would know that Jim Righeimer said the guy had contacted the Council earlier and said he'd like to give a presentation [and that he'd need ten minutes].  This was apparently given the green light.

But here's what the haters and bigots don't want you to know:

THEN--after the guy spoke for ten minutes and had to endure the taunts of the thugs in the audience, some of whom even wanted to physically attack the guy, Righeimer offered to let an opposing speaker with similar bonafides also speak for ten minutes. This speaker said he could make his comments in the three minutes.

AND--Righeimer also let many of the opposing speakers unofficially take more than their three minutes to drool their ignorant and uninformed comments.  Add up all those extra minutes and you'd find the opposing side was treated very fairly.

BTW:  If you've ever seen the CM PRESS speak at these meetings, you'll note that we take the three minute limit very literally and when that buzzer goes off we'll break off in mid-sentence and leave the podium as cleanly as a boxer will return to his corner when the round is over.  We'd like to see other speakers do the same thing instead of disrespecting other speakers by continuing to speak past the buzzer.

We've noted that it's mostly some of the clearly neurotic improvement obstructionists who take extra time. The reason is that most of them are confused and have disorganized minds and no self-discipline.

 THE USUAL GO SLOW GROUP SHOWED UP AT THE GROUP THERAPY SESSION CHARTER MEETING LAST NIGHT ALONG WITH A BUNCH OF UNION WORKERS

Former City employee Perry Valentine* used the word "scary" at least four times in three minutes to describe the proposed charter.

We're not exactly sure why Valentine finds the seven page document scary, and he didn't say anything that we heard that made it sound scary.

Scary must mean something different to Valentine.

The truth is that the charter isn't scary at all.  It simply gives local control of Costa Mesa to Costa Mesans.

Why anyone would want to continue to have our city controlled by legislators from Stockton and San Francisco and all of California's far flung cities instead of having the control right here in Costa Mesa is a story that is not explained by reason but in lefty politics or ignorance or a hatred of certain Councilmembers who are doers rather than talkers.

And on this last point: doers vs. talkers, isn't it clear that there are people who would rather just talk than do things, and isn't it often the case that some talkers have inadequate personalities and resent those who seem to have firm convictions and who would rather pound a nail than talk about it for six months?

Notice the  slant in the above article starting right with the headline about Putin's countrymen "ridiculing" him for wanting to increase the birth rate. 

It sounds as though most Russians don't want to have more kids.

Then when you get into the article you read about three or four anonymous Internet posters writing a couple of mildly negative comments.  Hardly most Russians as you might have thought from the headline.

Robert Dewey Hoskins, a 54-year-old White male who is described as psychotic and violent may be in Long Beach--or Orange County. 

Photos show him both with a beard and without one and with brown hair and brown beard and he could easily blend in with a homeless population either way.  Photos also show him with a round face and a thin face but his present appearance isn't indicated in the news reports we read. Most notable feature is a thin nose with a "pinched" look between the eyes.

CMPD BUSTS ILLEGAL ALIEN ON THE WESTSIDE FOR STEALING A BIKE

On Wednesday morning, 02-08-12, a resident of Huntington Beach contacted the Costa Mesa Police Department regarding his bicycle, which had been stolen from the gated yard of his residence on January 7th. The victim had filed a theft report at the time, and later found a craigslist advertisement for a bicycle matching his, a black 21-speed FUJI Road Bike, valued at approximately $450. The bike was listed on craigslist in Costa Mesa for $280. Posing as a prospective customer, the victim called the phone number listed in the ad, and arranged to meet with the seller to buy the bike. The seller identified himself as Denis Ramirez and provided the victim his address in the 700 block of W. Wilson Street to come and see the bike.


After contacting CMPD, the victim met with patrol officers in the area. A plainclothes detective also met with the victim, obtaining additional descriptive information on the bike. Posing as the victim/buyer, the plainclothes detective met with Ramirez at his residence, where assisting officers and detectives detained him while the bicycle was examined and confirmed to be the victim’s stolen bicycle. The victim noted that a bike light and seat bracket had been removed, which officers recovered from Ramirez’ residence after his telling them where to find the items. Denis Ramirez was arrested for possession of stolen property and transported to the Costa Mesa Jail for booking. He was additionally booked on an immigration hold.

COURT SAYS NAMES OF COPS INVOLVED IN SHOOTINGS MUST BE REVEALED TO PUBLIC

This may hold down the number of questionable shootings. 

Some cops take a comply or die attitude in their dealings with the public. The unstated premise behind this attitude is that everyone they deal with is mentally stable and is making rational decisions.  Unfortunately, many people who are confronted by the police may have various types of mental or medical problems that cause them to not fully understand or be able to timely comply with the commands given them.

We're thinking of the young girl in Huntington Beach who was shot and killed by cops in that city after she allegedly charged them with a knife.  It turns out the knife was a small pen knife and the facts surrounding her "charging" seem to be somewhat blurry.

Recently, a kid in another state with a learning disability was shot and killed by cops when he didn't understand their commands.

In Las Vegas recently a driver of a car came close to being shot by the cops when he didn't comply with their commands.  While he avoided getting shot, they did beat him.  It turns out he was having a diabetic shock.

Then you have the case of Kelly Thomas up in Fullerton.  He wasn't shot by the cops, but they did beat him to death.  This never should have happened and if the cops had not had a comply or die attitude, it wouldn't have happened.

The stories go on and on.

This follows an earlier story we reported on about a picture of a pig being secretly put into police stickers in Vermont.

In topsy turvy Costa Mesa, we aren't so subtle.  We just accept drawings of barbed wire, cans of spray paint and stoned elephants in a design that the city is backing and then we wonder if there are secret messages of good things in this design.

 "Ah, why, er, ah, gosh golly, see, hmmm, the barbed wire, cans of spray paint and stoned elephants show that Costa Mesa is, er, ah, ahem, like hip, man.  See, that's the hidden message. Yes, that's it.  We're a with it, on the edge, modern, youthful and wonderful community and that's what the barbed wire, cans of spray paint and stoned elephants convey, man."

COSTA MESA CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS PART OF A DRUG CARTEL?

That's what a speaker from Laguna Beach said at the City Council meeting last night. 

His reasoning was that since the City is closing down marijuana clinics, the City Council is forcing people to buy their marijuana from illegal street sources and thus is putting money in the pockets of various drug cartels.

After this speaker finished talking, Mayor Pro Tem Righeimer asked him why he didn't go to his own City Council in Laguna Beach and speak about marijuana there.

Righeimer also asked the speaker  if there were any marijuana clinics in Laguna Beach or Laguna Niguel and other cities close to Laguna Beach and the speaker answered in the negative, and then he unsuccessfully tried to salvage some of his tattered argument by saying that Costa Mesa was losing tax revenue by closing the clinics.

A woman  who also spoke in favor of keeping Costa Mesa's marijuana clinics open said that the Costa Mesa City Council was "forcing" her to go to Santa Ana and places that might be unsafe to buy her marijuana. 

Sigh.  "Forcing" her?

Another woman talked about how much marijuana helped her and how she was apparently able to buy a dildo at one store in Costa Mesa and marijuana at another nearby store. We must have missed something because we're not sure what point she was trying to make.

Now, don't get us wrong, the libertarian streak in us says that the government should not be telling people what plants they can grow or use--after all, the government is just a group of individuals and those individuals have their own biases and world views; so why should those individuals be able to tell other individuals what they can do when they're not harming others and are just pursuing happiness as they themselves believe is right for them?  That's not our idea of freedom.  In our perfect society, the government would butt out of most things and let people do what they want so long as they don't harm others.

However, we also don't like people telling us that Costa Mesans should allow marijuana clinics when other cities don't allow them and when there is unsettled law about the subject and a conflict between federal law and state law that still needs to be resolved.

So, to be clear, we're pleased that some of these folks are fighting for the right to use medical marijuana--because we see it as an individual freedom issue, and we'd like to see them win on this basis and extend individual freedom--but, at the same time, we're not pleased at some of the arguments they're making and the fact that they believe that Costa Mesa must bend to their will when their own cities don't.
