ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF RAPID SPECIATION: FISH SPECIES SPLITTING INTO TWO SPECIES IN THE SAME LAKE AND RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES

I've written columns about rapid speciation; long thought to be impossible.  It's not.

What's important to note here is that the species is splitting without being physically isolated from each other, so there could be gene flow which would end the speciation, but this isn't happening.

This means that there is some segregation mechanism at work that keeps what is becoming two species from mating with each other and blending back together as one species.

THE ARGUMENT THAT RACE DOESN'T EXIST IS SO SILLY AND ANTI-SCIENCE THAT IT IS LAUGHABLE.

Race is to man as breed is to dog as variety is to rose.  Like all words--every word in every language-the word "race" is a word made up by humans to describe something; in this case, to describe a taxonomic difference between different types of humans.  This does not mean that "race" is a social construct.

To understand the so-called human condition, one must always consider race. This is true whether we are talking about sports or crime rates or medical conditions or anything else about humans.

As intelligent beings we organize things and we make comparisons and list the similarities and differences and then we categorize things and organisms in rational and logical ways that puts like with like and puts unlike in another column..  This is how we learn about and understand the world around us. We make distinctions, first very broad ones and then ever finer.   Here's a quick example of how it works:

Below species we would have sub-species and then race and we could go even finer than this.  It just depends on how subtle we take our thinking or how find a distinction we feel is appropriate for whatever it is we are studying.
