If you're interested or concerned about Costa Mesa's schools, Smith's blog is the place to go.  He's got the scent of the private club that is the NMUSD and he doesn't let up.

Costa Mesa needs to compete with other cities for the best citizens.  High performing schools help us compete better and low performing schools chase upwardly mobile parents away.  We need to get the scores of students in Costa Mesa schools much higher.

Smith takes the tack that the problem with the low scores in Costa Mesa schools is the fault of the NMUSD.

By contrast, the CM PRESS believes the real problem is that it is a city demographic problem and we need first to attract more upwardly mobile people here--and especially to the Westside.

However, these two positions are not mutually exclusive and  both can and should be worked on at the same time.

One thing to always keep in mind in thinking about the schools is that it is not the schools, the teachers or the NMUSD that are taking the tests that give the schools low scores:  it is the students. So, when you hear that there are "failing schools", mentally note that this means the students are scoring low on tests.

Of course, when the Federal Judge escaped from the Black home invaders and called the cops she racially profiled the perps by describing them as Black.  Tsk, tsk, tsk.

The Black attackers didn't care that she is a liberal and helped stop the police from using common sense by profiling possible Black criminals. They only cared that she has white skin.

Had the police been able to profile, this violent home invasion might never have happened as the criminals might have been taken off the streets before they could act.
