WRITER WONDERS WHY ICELAND, WHICH IS AWASH IN GUNS, IS SO CRIME FREE

He can't seem to figure it out.  Hint:  Iceland is overwhelmingly White.  Low violent crime is a White thing and you see similar results in most non-diverse White lands.

DAILY PILOT ARTICLE ABOUT THE RECENT GENERAL PLAN MEETING

The DP article has this idiotic comment:  "There was also a 'We don't want to be Newport Beach' sentiment...."

Now what the hell does that mean?  The person or persons saying this don't want more White people?  They don't want more educated people? They don't want more upwardly mobile people?  They don't want people with money?  They don't want fewer magnet charities?  They don't want a city without Latino gangs?  They don't want a city where students perform better on standardized school tests?

What exactly does not wanting Costa Mesa to be like Newport Beach mean?

And, do they want Costa Mesa to be more like Santa Ana?

Actually, we'd like to know who made the stupid anti-Newport Beach comment.  One of our local numb nut libs?  An illegal alien supporter?  A charity maven?  What kind of scumbag wouldn't want our city to be improved, because that's really what it means, doesn't it?

  1. I dont interpret the comments that way. I dont think that is what that means! If i wanted to live in newport, id live in newport! Theres nothing in newport that feels like the nicer areas in costa mesa-- the camp, south coast metro, oc mart mix. We can impove upon costa mesa in our own more urban/young/hip brand rather than the sterile irvine/newport brand that appeals more to those 40+

  2. Whenever I hear the rallying cry “we don’t want to be like Irvine” or whoever, I get furious. What that says to me is you rather be a dump because “my home is my castle” and “I can do whatever I want” is more important. Look at the result of that freedom. Many parts of our city are an embarrassment.

The sad truth is we will never be like Newport Beach or Irvine because we are not a planned city. We are a hodgepodge of commercial and residential properties arranged in no special way. We attract low lives and absentee landlord speculators. Anyone please tell me what is so terrible about wanting to be better? Irvine and Newport Beach are great examples, why must we always trash them because we want to accommodate the lowest common denominator in our town? If not Irvine or Newport, pick any city south of here and let’s aspire to be like them. I certainly don’t want to be like Santa Ana. When we were kids, it was natural to compete against the best ball player or math student. The competition made us better students and athletes. The same applies here. Let’s aspire to something better.

The reality is Irvine and Newport Beach residents care about their city and it shows. Drive through any part and try to find some blight or graffiti. It is almost nonexistent.

I am grateful we have a Council and Planning Commission that understands this and is making the tough decisions to change our standards after decades of neglect. Read the newly proposed ordinances on property maintenance and you will see, the days of trashing our town are coming to an end.
