WHY THE CITY'S SILENCE ON THE STINKEYE INVESTIGATION?

The DAILY PILOT reported [HERE] on October 19, 2010 that the City had hired an outside investigator to look into the stinkeye incident.

It's now January 7, 2011 and we still haven't heard the results of that investigation.  Why?

Despite what Wendy Leece may think, Costa Mesa also has deep financial problems.  Hopefully, the four people on the City Council who understand this can get things fixed.

THUG COP STORY FROM SAN CLEMENTE
Link

Some people should not be cops.  Costa Mesa has a few of these also. Hopefully, the new City Council will fix things.  A thug in a uniform is still a thug and we don't need them on our streets.

One thing the Costa Mesa City Council can do is try to have more of the cops, who we pay so well, actually live in Costa Mesa.

California law prohibits cities from forcing employees to live in the cities that employ them, but things can be done to encourage more of our cops (and firefighters) to live here.

  1. Other people who should not be cops are ones who pass supposedly "public" documents to newspaper columnists. William Lobdell has refused multiple requests on the Pilot thread and at another publication for more details on his source for police expense reports. Have you called the police department to request them? Since they are public documents, they should gladly hand them over, no? The point is, I believe your original theory of a disgruntled cop is correct and I hope you stay with the story.

  2. To Anonymous 8:52: The City Clerk's office told us yesterday that Lobdell got the docmuments via that office with a California Public Records Act Request.

Our earlier point was broader than just the source of these expense accounts and remains one of wondering if there is a move by a clique of cops within the department who are aligned with some former high ranking cops to get rid of Shawkey.

  3. OK, so then Lobdell's failure to indicate that was just lazy journalism. But should we not be curious as to why he chose to examine those expense records in the first place? That does not seem to me to be a likely place to start. Perhaps he got a tip? Perhaps there is that clique you mentioned.

  4. Put together the pieces... No Stinkeye investigation. Chief put on leave. Mysterious (expense report) lead handed to Pilot. Something is fishy at the police department.
