CM PRESS # 674

MORE DEAD CHICKENS

Also, this just in from Pee, er, Brady Rhoades' blog over at the almost daily Daily Pilot: "We served chicken...[at the almost daily Daily Pilot's open house yesterday]." Hmmm.

We imagine...

"Hello, take-out...this is the almost daily Daily Pilot, your hyper-local newspaper. Could you please send over enough left wings to feed a hundred people?"

SENIOR CENTER ISSUES CONTINUE TO RUMBLE
Paul Flanagan has a column in the almost daily Daily Pilot today in which he alludes to unnamed people trying to strangle fundraising, etc. at the Costa Mesa Senior Center.

This column appears to be identical to what Flanagan said at public comments at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

Is Flanagan just a disinterested citizen? Maybe.

Say, did we mention that Flanagan's wife is the president of the board of directors of the Senior Center Corporation? We know Flanagan didn't mention it, and we know the almost daily Daily Pilot didn't mention it. Maybe that's just not relevant. You be the judge. Link to Senior Center website.

The Buzz...
The CM PRESS is hearing a buzz in the community that no one wants to strangle fundraising or in any way cause harm or grief to our senior citizens. Indeed, the buzz is that most folks want to make sure our seniors are getting the very best service and the most bang for our buck that they can get.

Since the Center is using a building owned by all the citizens of this city (for $1.00 per year), gets free janitorial service from the City, and gets piles of citizen money, citizens of this city have an interest in seeing that our seniors are getting what the citizens are paying for them to get.

This means that the way the place is being run should be completely open and transparent and that complaints of senior citizens should be looked into by the City Council.

We have also heard unconfirmed reports that at board meetings, some citizens who wish to speak have been told they can't speak or have been told they can't speak about certain issues relating to complaints or that they can't record the meetings, etc.
