NEW SPECIES OF BOA FOUND ON REMOTE BAHAMAS ISLAND

The important elements in this story for those not familiar with the fundamental processes of evolution are that the Adams and Eves of this new species were cut off from the regular species and mutated and became a new species.  Had they not been cut off, and if their genetic characteristics did not give them a survival advantage, they would have blended back in with the regular species and not become a new species.

Thus, isolation and no gene flow occurred and then mutations branched this type off from other types.

The article hints, inadvertently, that this "silver" mutation may have been a survival mechanism providing camouflage for the snakes on this island as the article says one of the boas came down from a silver palm.
