Let me give you a synopsis: Stereotypes are usually real.
People are falsely led to believe by those who want to deny the reality of race and racial differences that Whites have put negative stereotypes on Blacks and that Blacks have internalized these negative stereotypes and act them out.
In fact, stereotypes don't come first. Behaviors come first and then people note those behaviors and do what humans do: speak about them. In other words, Violent, criminal and anti-social behavior among many Blacks came first and then Whites talked about it. Not the other way around.
And, the author points out that stereotypes most often do have a basis in reality. He wonders if you heard Whites saying that Japanese are very violent and are out mugging and robbing people and doing home invasions, if you would believe such a stereotype. Of course you wouldn't, because there is no basis in reality in such a stereotype. Not so with Blacks and the very real characterizations, proven time and time again by statistics.
