CM PRESS # 421

COSTA MESA SANITARY DISTRICT--DOES WHAT IT WANTS

Lots of comments under the above linked column in the Daily Pilot.

As expected, the usual lefties oppose having the CMSD practice good governance by having open, competitive bidding on our trash contracts.

And, these lefties use lots of words (lies usually take more words than telling the truth) trying to hide what their pals on the CMSD are doing, and they try to divert attention by making personal attacks and going off on long, childish tangents.

This character Geoff West even seemingly tries in one comment to get a commenter in trouble with his employer by pointing out that his comments seem to be coming in to the Pilot during working hours. This has no relevance to the issues at hand and is simply a personal attack.

Folks, here are the two most important things to keep in mind to help you wade through all the goofy comments:

The lefties say:  The ratepayers (that's us) are happy with the rates because most of us don't show up at CMSD meetings.

The truth: This is a silly argument. Trash collection is simply one of those things that's under the radar and most people are too busy to bother.  This doesn't mean they are happy with the rates.

The lefties say: The trash hauler, that has been hauling our trash before many people in Costa Mesa were even born, as a result of a series of sweetheart, never ending, rubber stamp contracts, has to spend lots of money on equipment, so rate increases are fair.

The truth: This is also a silly argument. Actually, if the trash hauler has to buy equipment, that's their problem.  That's a cost of doing business. They are an independent company.  Ratepayers, as a body--through the CMSD--should be able to shop around to other trash haulers who will absorb equipment costs and take lower profits. But, the CMSD is not shopping around.  It is not getting competitive bids.
