HAPPENING RIGHT NOW--7:33 pm, Friday, 12/11/09--There's major police activity--5 or 6 police cars--and a helicopter overhead, in the easternmost alley in the Fillmore-Coolidge slum. This is the alley that also backs up to homes on Garfield. We drove the scene but couldn't tell what was happening. We do know that this is the same alley where a man was shot and killed in a gang attack a couple of years ago. More when we get more info.

HEARD ABOUT THE HOME INVASION IN NEWPORT?

Two of the perps escaped and may be in the area. They may be armed.

No descriptions have been published of the two outstanding perps.

Yesterday, I spotted two guys on a sidewalk who looked suspicious to me.

They looked out of place, both as to where they were standing and in being together. And, there were other subtle clues. They also looked lost.

Both had ex-con written all over them and moved with prison walks and had prison body language.

They were on a part of Bristol Street in Costa Mesa, close enough as the crow flies and logical enough as an escape route from the home invasion caper to pique my interest.

Did I call the cops? Nope. Why? Because if the cops want the public's help, they should start publishing descriptions of outstanding perps.

I'm not going to waste my time calling the cops and having them hassle a couple of guys, who may be completely innocent, unless I have more to go on than my hunch.

Descriptions in news reports, when the suspects are outstanding, will help protect the public and help solve crimes.
