D.C. POLICE TO ALLOW SIKHS TO WEAR TURBANS AND BEARDS AS WELL AS THEIR METAL BRACELETS AND DECORATIVE SWORDS

This rule is going to lead to many law suits as people of other religions demand the right to also wear their religious items while on duty.

Also count on law suits by arrestees who may be of a different religion that the arresting cops and who will claim religious profiling, prejudice and discrimination.

GOVERNOR WALKER GIVES SOME GOOD ADVICE TO ALL POLITICIANS

Here are the last two paragraphs from the above linked article:

But Walker acknowledged that the recall had taught him an important lesson — to build public support for his reform and policy efforts before trying to push them through.
“If I had it to do over again, I would probably spend more time building the foundation for support,” he told Van Susteren.

That's good advice for all politicians.

THE SPIRIT IN THE SKY
by H. Millard (c) 2012
Sometime ago, nationally syndicated columnist Mona Charen wrote a column about lawyer/author Dean Overman whose passion is investigating the big why and how of life. In his book, "A Case Against Accident and Self-Organization," Overman tries to prove that scientific reasoning actually leads to the conclusion that life is the result of an intelligent God.

The problem with Charen's reasoning, and presumably Overman's as well, can be seen in Charen's constant use of the straw man terms "random," and "accidental" as the only alternative to an intelligent God.

The example used by Charon to knock down her straw man and ridicule so-called randomness: "a typhoon blowing through a junkyard and constructing a Boeing 747," is silly, but ironically may almost be a picture of the real engine of creation, not only on earth, but in the entire universe--the spinning spiral organization of order from chaos.

spiral galaxyTrue randomness, is, well, random. It has no pattern, no form, no predictability. However, we do not find true randomness in the universe. Instead, we find a pattern and this pattern is there in front of us every time we watch water drain from our kitchen sink or when we flush our toilet. It is in every typhoon, hurricane, tornado, gust of wind. It is in our DNA, and in the way branches grow on trees. It is in sea shells at the bottom of oceans and in clouds at the top of our atmosphere. It is seen in the developing fetus. It is seen in the cornucopia of the ancients. It is also in the organization of galaxies consisting of billions of stars. It is the constant in our universe and gives example to the Biblical saying: "As above, so below."

In fact, it is almost impossible to find anything in nature that does not have this spinning spiral shape involved with it as everything in existence constantly turns and spins and seeks roundness.

This is the organizing, non-random principle; the great builder and destroyer of all that exists. This is the great card shuffler that takes those four simple chemicals of DNA and shuffles them one way to make a snail and another way to make a man.

Of course, this leads us to the next question. What causes the spinning spiral to exist and sets it in motion? Religionists, if backed into a corner on this question, will posit an intelligent God. However, it can be explained much more simply with elementary physics and can probably ultimately be traced back to something as simple as hot and cold, and negative and positive charged particles.

If one wanted to go even further with the speculation, it could be pointed out that in some religious traditions, God is said to have brought everything in our universe into being by bringing light--which is matter--into existence in a previously all dark universe devoid of any matter at all.

The image we might create in our minds, by way of analogy, and for ease in thinking about this, is, perhaps, of a sort of a pre-universe made out of black paper with God on the other side of that black paper who struck a match which first burned a pinhole in our universe which then grew in a spinning spiral fashion as it devoured more of the black paper.

And, since the paper is endless--since it represents nothingness and nothingness can have no limits logically-- the fiery spinning spiraling pinhole has continued expanding ever since as it devours the nothingness and fills it with somethingness.  But since the somethingness was all created at once and there is no more of the stuff, and since the nothingness can supply no new fuel, the somethingness in expanding ever outwards becomes less concentrated.

Yes, of course, this is a bit like the Big Bang theory and the expanding universe.

tornadoPerhaps the true Spirit in the Sky is much like that tornado bearing down on a trailer park.

Is it possible that the universe has no need for an intelligent God at all, because existence is perfectly capable of ordering itself through a simple spinning that creates and destroys matter and sorts it all out  based on various properties that different forms of matter possess much as a machine sorting oranges does the sorting, not with intelligence, but simply based on  the size or weight of the oranges which dumbly fall through certain holes and not other holes?

FITZPATRICK RESIGNS FROM THE PLANNING COMMISSION

This is what he should have done months ago (as we suggested) when the issue of conflicting positions came up and appeared to have legs.

Some battles are not worth fighting and you win by not going head to head over something that is really meaningless whether you win or lose.

Fitzpatrick's role should be to take the battle to the entrenched good old boys network at the Costa Mesa Sanitary District and work to get competitive bids, point out wasteful practices, and find ways to cut costs.

Now, if the Sanitary District continues its legal actions against Fitzpatrick, we suspect he'll get lots of support from the citizens of Costa Mesa who will clearly see that the board simply doesn't want anyone near the levers of power who isn't going to join the good old boys and shut up.

Waste is a terrible thing to mind, but we need someone watching the store. Fitzpatrick is that person.

Here's the written description from the REGISTER: "The robber was described as being in his late 20's and wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and pants."

But, check out the VIDEO HERE.  Do you see anything else that might be used to describe the robber?

No?  You don't see anything that is important? You must be a Good White or a GOP suit.  But, most people with normal I.Q.'s can plainly see that the robber is Black.  Now, don't you think that might be an important descriptor?  We do.

THOMAS SOWELL ON THE CENSORED RACE WAR

Gee, now that a Black guy has written the same thing that many of us aware Whites have been writing, maybe some of the stupid, cowardly and neurotic aracial Whites will start realizing that their silence on the hate attacks on Whites by Blacks is just allowing more such attacks and that they themselves or their children may be the next victims who naively walk into danger.

Know the truth, it may save your life.  Truth is never racist.

WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW CONSERVATIVES SPITZER AND BAUGH TRY TO SMEAR DEB PAULY

Can it be that they're in a snit because she doesn't dislike herself because she was born white? "Oh horrors!"

Well, we're not sure that's why Spitzer and Baugh are attacking Pauly--after all, these guys are trying to defeat her in the election.

Since they brought up race, let's see if we can coax out some of what the  always PC Spitzer and Baugh think by excerpting a few of their comments from the above OC REGISTER article...

{snip}

Scott Baugh, chairman of the O.C. Republican party and a supporter of Spitzer, said of Pauly, “It’s not surprising to me that somebody who defended a racist email depicting the president as a monkey would also associate with a known segregationist.”
Baugh was referring to Pauly’s defense of Marilyn Davenport, a member of the O.C. GOP’s central committee who last year  sent an email with a photoshopped image depicting President Obama as a chimpanzee.
Pauly, a Villa Park Councilwoman who is also on the GOP’s central committee, said she defended “a woman who forwarded a political cartoon. We’ve had presidents portrayed as monkeys and all sorts of other things throughout our entire history. It’s called political satire.”
With regard to Walters, Pauly said she was unaware that he had supported segregation. “I know him to be a businessman. I know him to be concerned about the fiscal policies and votes that Mr. Spitzer has taken in the past. That’s all I know. All this other stuff you’re telling me is news to me,” she said.
“It’s not surprising to me that Scott Baugh would do whatever he can to get Spitzer on the Board of Supervisors, because he knows that Spitzer will march to his drum and be an obedient little boy,” Pauly said.
Spitzer, who provided Total Buzz with a copy of Walters’ book borrowed from UC Irvine’s library, described the book as “horrific, vile, disgusting sentiments of (Walters’) vision of America, and I believe that he thinks Deb Pauly shares his vision for Orange County, which is a bigoted, segregationist view.”
{snip}

Hey, Spitzer, exactly what are those "horrific, vile, disgusting sentiments of  (Walters') vision of America"?   Oh, okaySpitzer then goes on and says: "and I believe that he thinks Deb Pauly shares his vision for Orange County, which is a bigoted, segregationist view.”

Spitzer should tell us more  about "bigoted" and "segregationist view,"  so we can come to our own conclusion, but he doesn't.
You see, that's how some of these guys work.  They give you a bunch of hate terms, with no definitions, but never tell you the meat of the subject.  You're just supposed to accept the hate terms as appropriate.

So, we'll have to supply a couple of definitions to make sense of what Spitzer is saying.

"Bigoted" means: Obstinately convinced of the superiority or correctness of one's own opinions and prejudiced against those who hold different opinions.

"Segregation" (from Wikipedia): "Segregation itself is defined by the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance as 'the act by which a (natural or legal) person separates other persons on the basis of one of the enumerated grounds without an objective and reasonable justification, in conformity with the proposed definition of discrimination. As a result, the voluntary act of separating oneself from other persons on the basis of one of the enumerated grounds does not constitute segregation'". (Emphasis added by CM PRESS).

So, is Spitzer saying that Walters wants to separate others (which would be segregation), or is Walters saying that individuals may separate themselves from others (which would not be segregation)?  There's a difference. We don't know the answer, since there isn't enough information given by Spitzer to know this.  However, we are told by the REGISTER that Walters' book defended segregation.  So, maybe what he wrote did fit the definition of segregation. Whatever.

At any rate, and no matter what Walters wrote 47 years ago, he has now indicated that he's moved on from what he wrote in his book (whatever that was).  Or in the words of Obama, Walters has indicated that he's evolved.

Furthermore, would one be mistaken in thinking that what Spitzer said sounds bigoted as he claims that what Walters wrote long ago (whatever that was) sounds bigoted?

Well, anyway, while you're at it, Spitzer,  tell us your vision for America.  Are you happy with the crime ridden cities?  Are you pleased about the attacks on White people by Black people?  Are you pleased with the open borders and the invasion of millions of illegal aliens?  Do you think America is on the right track?  And, since you and Baugh are both trying to be so PC about race, give us your views on the subject.

And, say, will you and Baugh work to get a White Caucus up in Sacramento?  If not, why not?  You are both aware of a Black Caucus and a Latino Caucus.  How come you're okay with them?  Don't they sound racist to you?

We see you, Spitzer and Baugh.

NB: Walters published his book in 1965.  Todd Spitzer was then 5-years-old and Scott Baugh was 3-years-old. Have they evolved since then? Maybe they have different views now than they had 47 years ago?  Should Pauly and Walters see if they can find some poopy diapers of Spitzer and Baugh from that period and bring them to the attention of the REGISTER to prove that these guys are full of it?

NEWPORT'S CITY MANAGER MAKES SAME BASIC POINTS THAT THE CM PRESS EARLIER MADE ABOUT JACK WU'S LATEST STUPID COLUMN ABOUT CITY STAFFING LEVELS

The point:  Wu didn't compare apples and apples.  Not even close. It was as though he was comparing apples and fire trucks.  Hey, they're both red, so they must be the same.

Honestly, folks, this guy Wu is giving conservatives a bad name with his shallow thinking columns that are as illogical as the crap we usually see from lefties.

In fact, wasn't Wu a Democrat before he became a Republican?  Didn't we read that someplace?  And, why did he become a Republican and why is he volunteering as Congressman Rohrabachers accountant, or whatever it is he does?

Well, could it be that Wu is trying to rise in politics and is kissing up to Rohrabacher and other conservatives to try to succeed?  After all, this is Orange County and the GOP generally holds sway here, and especially in the more coastal regions.

ANOTHER ADMINISTRATIVE ERROR FROM CITY HALL

At tomorrow night's City Council meeting, the Council will hear an appeal  by Wendy Leece against the Planning Commission's approval  to put in a Starbucks at 450 E. 17th Street.

So far so good.

However, the Council gets to hear this matter on a de novo basis.

Still good so far.

But, in the agenda [HERE], it appears that the Council is being told by staff that it has only two options set forth as A and B:

Either approve of what the Planning Commission did or reject it.

That's the problem.

Under a de novo hearing, the Council actually has the ability to set new conditions or modify the ones set by the Planning Commission.  In other words, there is a third choice, but the agenda report doesn't reflect this except down in the Conclusion section which does correctly state this.

The Council should be told that it has a third option: C.

GERMAN PIRATE PARTY ON THE RISE

What we're seeing all across Europe is the rise of political parties and politicians who are rejecting austerity. It's happening in France and Greece and now in Germany.

Some of these anti-austerity parties and politicians are on the left and some are on the right.  What they share is the belief that it is wrong to impose austerity measures on ordinary citizens while a few very rich people (internationalists) continue to profit.

Can we expect the same in the U.S.?

Our guess is that we can expect the same, and that in the elections at all levels this year in the U.S., politicians who call for austerity measures that hurt ordinary citizens are going to have a hard time getting elected.

The public mood is one in which voters have swung back to wanting a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage. Smart politicians are going to find a way to meet this mood. Dumb politicians are going to be looking for work elsewhere outside of politics.

ANOTHER WORST COLUMN EVER IN THE DAILY PILOT
[Even worster than Jack Wu's columns]

First, the Daily Pilot started running stupid columns from social climbing, putative conservative Jack Wu who gives thinkers on the right a bad name because of his poorly thought out columns.

Now, the paper is starting to run columns by a lib named Jeffrey Harlan who does for the left what Wu does for the right.

Maybe we should praise the Pilot for finding two guys of equal, er, intellect to write this crap.

In his first column in the Pilot [HERE], Harlan tries to make Mayor Pro Tem Righeimer look bad by saying that Righeimer has exaggerated the poor financial state of our city.

Harlan's example of that exaggeration is the fact that Righeimer told a national TV audience:

"[W]e [Costa Mesa] have arguably the No.1 sales tax generating, you know, shopping area, South Coast Plaza, on the planet, and we can't slurry seal our streets."

Well, that pick-the-fly-specks-out-of the-pepper- guy Harlan, in best Comic Book Guy fashion, wants readers to know that, nah, nah, nah Mesa Verde was just slurry sealed and the Eastside is about to have a $6.3 million rehab of its streets.

'Splain that Mr. Righeimer, if you can. And, to go even further, Harlan might have even written (but he didnt') that he had seen a pot hole or two patched on some streets. Aha! How do you explain that, Mr. Righeimer?!

Does this mean that Righeimer exaggerated, as stated by Harlan?  Of course not.

Two of our areas get some slurry seal.  Big deal.  What about College Park, Halecrest/Hall of Fame, Mesa North, Mesa del Mar, all of the friggin Westside?  Why aren't they having their streets fixed?  IT'S BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY.

In other words, and as stated by Righeimer: "We have arguably the No.1 sales tax generating, you know shopping area, South Coast Plaza, on the planet, and we can't slurry seal our streets."

Righeimer got it right.  Harlan got it wrong.

Be sure to read the comments from the usual DENSA candidates following Harlan's stupid column.  You'll see the same dimwit lefties, haters, and one chicken little all giving their fellow traveler Harlan an attaboy. What a pitiful group.

CALIFORNIA NOW $ 16 BILLION IN THE HOLE

Governor Brown thought the hole was "only" $ 9 billion as late as January.  Ooops.

This is what happens when you do so many things wrong when you're running a state.   The blame has to be laid not at the feet of the Dems or the Republicans per se, but at the corrosive policies both have helped establish in this state.

What should be done:  Stop all freebies being given to illegal aliens and others who won't work and who won't move to states where there are jobs. Cut red tape that is causing businesses to leave the state. Get state government costs under control.

And, most importantly, study and copy the actions of states that aren't having our problems.

JOHN DERBYSHIRE WONDERS ABOUT WHAT WE SHOULD CALL OURSELVES

We're not part of Conservatives Inc. nor are we White Supremacists.  We're not this and we're not that.  We have a little bit of this and a pinch of that in our views.

Most of us are for individual liberty, but we oppose abortion.  Most of us look to nature for clues, but we aren't tree huggers.  We're against race hatred, but we recognize race as a reality and most of us consider DNA and genes to be the most important element of organisms. We want smaller government closer to the people, but not the end of all government. We're mostly against foreign intervention, but isolationists doesn't quite apply.

Derbyshire wades into this as many of us have for years.  Most of the good names that would apply seem to have already been taken. Realists, would be nice, but it's gone. Buncha lefties grabbed that one, and even though it doesn't apply to them, they own it.  Libertarian applies somewhat to some of us, but somehow it's not always a good fit. Tea Baggers, well, nah, that's not a good fit for most of us. Bohemian or non-conformist also applies to some of us, but not to all who fit under this tent with no name.

The dilemma over a name isn't just a trifle.  We humans need to give names to things in order to correctly think about them and rally around the central ideas of what is named.

This reminds me of the word Existentialist and how the world's leading Existentialists have mostly said the word doesn't apply to them.

We'll let you know if anyone comes up with a name that most of us can accept.

MANY BLACKS DON'T MIND THAT OBAMA BACKS GAY MARRIAGE

Of course they don't mind.  They're voting for one thing and one thing only: the color of his skin.

The CM PRESS is surprised that anyone would think differently, but a so-called conservative told us the other day that he thought Obama would lose Black votes because of his stand on gay marriages.  I told the guy that he didn't know what he was talking about.

Blacks will flock to Obama this year as they in the last election, precisely because he is Black. Period.  If any of the GOP suits think otherwise and waste money trying to get the Black vote for Romney, they need to have their heads examined.

The election this year is going to be more about race than the last one.  The difference this time is that more Whites are going to vote for the White guy because now that a Black has been elected, they no longer feel guilty about voting for a White.

The City of Costa Mesa has set June 5 as the date for the first required public hearing to consider a proposed City Charter, or local constitution, for the November ballot. The public hearing will be part of the regular City Council meeting scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., and will be heard at 7 p.m. or soon thereafter.

A required second public hearing to consider the charter for the November ballot is scheduled for July 10, and the City Council will vote on whether to put the charter measure on the Nov. 6 ballot at a special Council meeting scheduled for July 31.

Next week, the City will have a “Charter” tab on its website that will link to the Costa Mesa charter approved by the City Council in March; a nonpartisan League of California Cities primer on charters; charters from other cities; a timeline for the process in Costa Mesa; and a list of the 120 California charter cities, which include Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, and Irvine. Robins Lefflers
WHY RIGHEIMER AND MENSINGER SHOULD NOT GIVE A DETAILED REPORT ABOUT THEIR VISIT TO THE ICSC

We see that the lefties are now whining over the fact that Jim Righeimer and Steve Mensinger aren't being required to give a detailed report about who they meet and what they talk about at the ICSC.

We even see some claiming that giving such detailed reports is just  normal business practice in the private sector.

Well, there are differences between their visit and the visit of a guy in the biz in the private sector.

The first big difference is that the guy in the private sector makes a report to his own company, not to his competitors.  The two Councilmembers, if they gave detailed reports, would be telling other cities which retailers Costa Mesa might be romancing to try to get them to move here, and this could kill the deals.

The second big difference is that if the duo came back and gave a very detailed report listing everyone they talked to and what they talked about, this information, in this charged political season, might very quickly be grabbed by the lefties who will then call all those listed in the reports to see if those people remember things exactly as reported.

And, if there are any differences in the reports, this will be used for political purposes.

So, what's the big deal with this? As we previously reported, we attended many ICSC conventions in Las Vegas.  The conventions are huge and as crowded as Disneyland on a warm summer night, and many of the contacts one makes are very casual and the conversations are often wide ranging and open, and they are often with several people from different parts of the country, who don't know each other, all huddled around each other, with everyone all talking at once, and they often take place right on the convention floor with hundreds of other people bustling around and stepping in and out of the conversations.

In such a climate, it is easy to get conversations mixed up and confused.

Would the lefties try to use a single word uttered by Righeimer or Mensinger or a single word used by someone they may have contacted against the duo?

Well, don't forget that the Robins Lefflers keep going to the podiums to ask the Righeimers who they mean when they use the word  "we."

If there is a report to be made, it should be made in very general terms to the public, and should not have the smallest details.

INTERESTING ARTICLE IN THE OC REGISTER ABOUT THE COST OF POLICING VARIOUS CITIES

Although Costa Mesa isn't mentioned in the article, according to the City's preliminary FY 12-13 budget, we'll spend $ 40,838,225 for policing our city this fiscal year.

With the above figure, you can now make your own comparisons with the cities that are mentioned in the Register article to see if we're about where we should be with our policing costs or whether some improvement is needed.

One thing we noted was that Mission Viejo with a population of 93,102 (2000 Census) only plays $15.2 million dollars for its policing which is supplied by the Sheriff, while Costa Mesa with a population of 108,724 (2000 Census) is paying $40,838.225 for policing with our in-house police department.
More current population figures would be helpful, but the above gives a rough idea of things.

UPDATE:  ELDERLY WHITE HUSBAND NOW FOLLOWS HIS ELDERLY WHITE WIFE IN DEATH AFTER BEATING BY BLACK (The elderly wife was also raped)

Welcome to the new Dark Age America which is far different from the America that this elderly man went to war for back in the '40's.

If Obama had a son, he'd look like the killer of this elderly White couple.

NICE COLUMN ABOUT HOW CONSERVATIVES DESTROY THEMSELVES

We almost didn't bother reading the above column because its title made it sound as though it was just about European conservatives.  However, what the writer points out is valid not only for America but also for those running for office right here in Costa Mesa.

The main lesson:  Don't try to put austerity measures on the backs of ordinary citizens and ask them to suffer while the rich get a pass (and the rich will always get a pass because of their wealth).

HAVE YOU NOTICED...

We've been seeing travel brochures and ads lately that promote travel to cities in Mexico, but which avoid mentioning that they're in Mexico or put the word Mexico in small print.  Given all the murders and crime in Mexico, that's not a bad marketing strategy.

One might expect to hear something like this from the less conscious among us:

"Are you going to Mexico on your vacation?"

"Of course not.  We're going to Cancun."

NORTH CAROLINA EASILY PASSES CONSTITUTIONAL BAN ON GAY MARRIAGES

With 34.37% of registered voters going to the polls, those in favor of the ban on gay marriages trounced those who opposed the measure 1,303, 952 to 831,788.

This win should send shivers through the Obama campaign, as Obama's operatives were against the ban.

LIVE ELECTION RESULTS FROM NORTH CAROLINA ON CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO BAN GAY MARRIAGES

When we checked the totals at 6:00 our time, the vote for the amendment to ban gay marriages was leading by about 227,000 votes.

Liberal groups who support Obama are supporting the right to have gay marriages, while conservatives, and most notably the religious right, are supporting the amendment to ban gay marriages.  The power of the religious right on this issue is evident, and this may signal problems for Obama in the general election if they stay motivated.

O'REILLY GETS INVOLVED IN REPORTING ON THE VIRGINIA BLACK ATTACK ON TWO WHITE REPORTERS

Video

Most in the press are still trying to cover up the high number of race hate attacks on Whites by Blacks, but maybe many Whites are starting to wake up to the reality of this.

We could easily fill every CM PRESS with nothing but reports of attacks on Whites by Blacks and we could have started doing that from the first time we published back in 1999.  What would the result be?

We'd get comments from the usual low I.Q. types saying that we shouldn't report the truth.

By the way, we'd have a hard time filling even one edition of the CM PRESS with reports of attacks on Blacks by Whites, but if you read the main stream press, you'd think Whites were attacking Blacks all the time.

For your own safety, be aware of reality. And, be sure to profile.  You have your senses for a reason.  Trust them.

CANADA: THE KTUNAXA--ANOTHER INDIAN TRIBE TRIES TO COME BACK FROM THE BRINK OF EXTINCTION

The most important part of the above linked video is from 9:59 to 10:20.  It is there that it is clearly stated that the purpose of the government schools was to "take the Indian out of the Indian."

Hey, wait a minute, isn't it racist for Indians to want to remain Indian? Shouldn't all peoples just blend together and give up their own identities?

Aren't we being told that blending away our "imagined" differences is what we should do because there is only one race, the human race?   Of course, this is a lie, and those who want to blend all races, all religions and all nations together are genocidists much like those so-called well meaning people who tried to take the Indian out of the Indian.

A FREEWAY RUNS THROUGH IT

At today's City Council study session, there will be an update to the plans to widen the 405 Freeway.

The first two alternatives do not impact Costa Mesa, so there's no reason for immediate concern.

Alternative 3 [HERE], however, can have a serious impact on Costa Mesa and especially to homeowners who live on or near the following Costa Mesa streets: Nevada Ave., Maryland Circle, New Hampshire Dr., Iowa St., Charleston St., Concord St.

Other streets may also be affected.

HERE'S a map of the area.

Alternative 3 calls for the widening of the 405 all along Costa Mesa down to the 73 Fwy.

All the streets closest to the 405 are in danger from Alternative 3.

Speak up, or you may have a freeway running through your home.

FINALLY...WE HEAR FROM THE CEO

Late yesterday, after reporting another nuisance vending truck and the specific violations of our laws, we finally heard from the CEO who said, in effect, that the City would look into the violations.

Now, our point about this is that we don't necessarily want to see these vending truck operators get heavy fines or citations, but we do want the City to give them warnings that they are violating our laws and disturbing neighborhoods with their activities.

THEN, we want the City to revise our municipal codes to include better language as used by some other cities--Palm Desert, for example (and as suggested by a politician to us)--that may solve the problem once and for all.

As we've written many times before, Assemblyman Mansoor got involved in politics because he couldn't get any action from the City concerning vending trucks and human powered vending carts that were disturbing his then Westside neighborhood.

That's the way it often is in politics. An ordinary citizen, with what may seem like a small issue, gets blown off by the authorities and thus has  his or her consciousness raised to a general lack of attention by the authorities to quality of life issues, and then he or she decides to run for office and soon moves ever higher.

We'll keep you informed of progress on this issue.

Interesting read that once again brings up the subject of identity of different human groups.  Of course, this genetics expert's contention flies in the face of those who insist 'there is only one race, the human race' (which is as absurd as saying we're all the same because we all bleed red blood).

VENDING TRUCKS AND THEIR VIOLATIONS

When we talk about the problems with vending trucks, we're not talking about gourmet roach coaches or even roach coaches that visit industrial businesses and construction sites.

We're talking about vending trucks that sell candy, chips and other similar products and which work the slums of Costa Mesa.

These trucks are common in the Fillmore-Coolidge slum; the Mesa del Mar slum and on the Westside.

They steal business from merchants who have fixed store locations and who play by the rules.

They also often violate many other ordinances that impact the quality of life of stable citizens of Costa Mesa.

Here are a few of the most common violations.  We've cut out all the verbiage and just give a brief description of what the ordinances mean:

Costa Mesa Municipal Code...

Sec. 10-369 Trash (b) Operator to pick up trash w/in 50' radius.--I've never seen them do this, and the trash is usually left on the street.

Sec. 10-370 Hours of operation (b) Not before 9 a.m. or after 5 p.m.--Most common violation is after 5 p.m. and often as late as 8 p.m.

Sec. 10-373 Sound making devices--Horns are sounded constantly as the trucks move from one part of the street to another.

 Sec. 10-374 Prohibited Conduct
 (a)
1. Not within 500' of active school.

3. Not within 100'of intersection or alley.

8. Not legally parked.

(d) Can't stay in one location for more than 10 minutes.

BEYOND LEFT AND RIGHT

You do it and we do it; we tend to think of things as dualities. Hot and cold. Light and dark. Liberal and conservative. Left and right.

It's a convenient way of thinking and talking and we'll continue to use such terms, but the reality is that existence is not a duality.  It is a continuum.  Hot and cold, for example, are just gradations on the scale of  temperature.

So also is it with politics.

We bring this up because, as you may have noted, if you read our post just below this one or several other posts we've made recently, the CM PRESS isn't buying the incompetence we're seeing coming from City Hall and the Council.

This doesn't mean we've joined with the kooks who constantly complain about the Council over everything they do, because we haven't; it just means that we are on a third track.

Our track is that we want to see improvement in Costa Mesa.  That's why we started the CM PRESS many years ago and that's why we keep writing.

We supported those who we refer to as the "good Councilmembers" because we like their talk.  But, we don't like the screw ups.  We don't like the top heavy hiring.  We don't like the excuses and the attempts to blow smoke.

Talk is cheap.  We want action.

We'll repeat again, what we've said many times before:  we have no friends in politics.

We avoid going to lunch with Councilmembers or interacting with them socially as much as possible.  We don't want to hear sweet talk and we don't want to get glad handed.  We want results.

Our loyalty is to positions. And, in Costa Mesa, our position now is as it has always been. Costa Mesa needs improvement. Slums need to be razed. Illegals need to be booted out. Charities have to be told to stop being magnets for everything that drives us lower. The City needs to be on an upward spiral, not a downward spiral.

We ask of everything that goes before the Planning Commission or the City Council: Will this help improve Costa Mesa, will it be neutral, or will it be bad for the improvement of Costa Mesa?

That's it.  A very simple filter. If you see us take a position for or against something, it's because we believe that it is good or bad for improvement.  If you notice us not taking a position, it's because we think the thing is neutral and won't help or harm improvement.

STILL NO EMAIL RESPONSE FROM THE CEO'S OFFICE

Well, the CM PRESS still hasn't received an email reply about troublesome vending trucks blowing their horns, leaving trash on our streets and staying in the city far past the 5:00 pm deadline.

The top heavy Costa Mesa government is just too busy to respond to a citizen, we guess.

Maybe, in addition to a CEO, an Assistant CEO a Deputy CEO and a Communications Director--all of whom we sent our emails to--we need some more assistant and deputy CEO's and more Communications Directors.

Perhaps it's just as well that we don't hear from them.  We're getting pissed off at the BS we hear from staff and even from some of the City Councilmembers who we have supported in the past.

All of you down at City Hall, put away your Business 101 books that you don't understand; stop hiring consultants to generate reports that you don't act on, and  start running this city right.  Start improving Costa Mesa.

And, why in the hell do we have a permanent Communications Director?  Is it to put out that stupid fluff CEO report each week?  The thing is as vapid as a travel brochure.

And, what about the guy on staff who organizes parties or events or whatever the hell he does?

City Council, you're screwing up.  We're not the only ones who are saying this.  We get emails from our readers on our back channel, and some of these readers are your natural supporters, but they're complaining about what they're seeing from you.  And, most of these folks who are contacting us aren't lefties.

And, while we're mentioning this, how in the hell can any competent City Hall not get some simple papers to the Registrar of Voters on time?  Who's in charge?  Doesn't anyone check on these things?

Oh, by the way City Council, did you know you have people on the Planning Commission who don't even know what "fee simple" means?  Geez.  And, you have one guy on there who is permanently out to lunch.

And, then you have that teats on a bull Parks and Recreation Commission that is a waste of time and which should be folded into the Planning Commission.

And, where the hell is the damn 19 West sign that we suggested many months ago?

Stop blowing smoke.  Start improving this city, and start doing it right now, today.

The buck stops with you people on the City Council.  And, the voters know this.
